India Association of Memphis (IAM) will host the 8th Annual IndiaFest (IF 2010) on August 28th at Memphis Agricenter International. Initiated in 2003, this has become the showcase of India’s rich & diverse culture in the Memphis Metro Area. There will be opportunity for everyone to explore the rich cultural heritage of India. IndiaFest has 4-5 core focus areas - a bazaar with vendors selling merchandise (e.g. exotic fashion wear, ethnic jewelry, home décor, Green products), food from local Indian restaurants & purveyors, other gastronomic delights representing India’s culinary diversity made by the people from the various regions of India now living in the Memphis area, cultural segment featuring an open mike, a cultural challenge segment, kids activities with an Indian touch, cultural exhibits/presentation and a food demo. There will be something for everyone to enjoy. READY – TAKE ONE – ACTION. As an experience theme, attendees on 28th will learn and enjoy – “Journey Through Indian Cinema”. Bollywood – The World’s Biggest Entertainment Factory will be a prime showcase and we will bring the vast variety of Bollywood and India’s movie production front & center to the mid-South area attendees. IndiaFest is a strong testament of the diversity that thrives in the mid-south and is a commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion and community involvement.

Event Programming – August 28th from 10:00 to 6:00

Bazaar Section: Experience a vivid kaleidoscope of Indian music, food, art, fashion, language and literature. The multiple kiosks will bring alive various facets of India, including an unforgettable gastronomical experience

Talent Show: A Talent Show Contest runs concurrent to the Bazaar Section and will exhibit Indian dance and music performed by local talents

Food Demo: For all the food enthusiasts a way to learn and try out new recipes and cuisine from across India’s varied cuisine

Kids Corner: Kids get to explore India through Indian story time, dance lessons, various engaging and learning activities, IndiaQuest, carnival games and fascinating craft activities. Age appropriate for kids 4 thru 12

Cultural Performances: The cultural showcase is a sit-down program showcasing professional thematic performances by artistic talent within the Memphis Indian-American community

• Join Chef Vish Bhatt, from the acclaimed SnackBar in Oxford, MS & winner of the 2010 MS Seafood Cookoff as he joins local Memphis chef’s to create food with a wicked twist

• Food demo at IndiaFest will demystify Indian food and spices – and make you spice it up everyday!!

Are your kids fascinated by learning about other countries, cultures and languages? Are they hands-on learners to create crafts? Will they love carnival games that teach while being fun?

Over the years we have had almost 70-80 vendors come to Memphis to showcase their businesses and sell all types of Indian merchandise. We will have vendors selling women’s fashion, jewelry, musical instruments, CD’s, DVD’s, home furnishings, religious artifacts, etc. If you love to shop, Memphis IndiaFest is your prime opportunity to get a whole new wardrobe with fun, exotic casual and formal stuff!!

You hear Bollywood and you say “what’s that” ?You think Slumdog Millionaire is Bollywood?

• For our theme this year, we are focusing on Indian cinema - Journey Through Indian Cinema. We hope to showcase and bring the vast variety of Bollywood and other movie production front & center for the non-Indian population while providing a strong ambiance inspired by India’s cinema history for the thousands of attendees

IndiaFest 2010 – Planning Team Structure


• 6 Core Tracks to develop the planning; each headed by track director(s)

• 2 new tracks that we have launched for 2010 – Business Development and Festival Administration

• Overall estimated 100 – 140 volunteers for successful planning, implementation & conduct of festival

India association of MemphisIncorporated in 1980, it is a cultural, religious,

educational, literary, civic, social and charitable organization registered as a 501c (3) in the state of TN

Provides a platform for the members of the Indian American community and all others, in the Shelby County and the surrounding areas to foster a closer association among people with similar beliefs, aims and ideals

Caters to ~ 7,000 to 8,000 people of Indian descent in mid-south (numbers are estimates based on 2000 US Census numbers)
