Nitrogen, oxygen and argon are the most commonly used industrial gases, and are widely used across various

industries due to their physical and chemical properties. These gases are extracted from the atmosphere by

air separation units and stored in cryogenic containers.

Oxygen supports combustion and is used to enhance various industrial and biological processes by speeding

up the chemical reactions. During chemical reactions, any increase in the amount of oxygen results in energy

saving by reducing the compression required for the gas before it is used in the combustion process.

Nitrogen and argon are inert gases, and are used when any material needs to be protected from the exposure

of the atmosphere. A blanket of nitrogen or argon is put over the vessels that contains any substance which

has to be protected from the atmosphere. Liquid nitrogen provides intensely cold and inert atmosphere, this

sort of atmosphere is used to rapidly chill and freeze food items, such as meat, fruit, vegetables, baked

goods, dairy products, etc.

Argon, a noble gas, is used to protect materials from oxidation as and when required. In steel industry, argon

has a diverse applications, and is used in the production of high quality stainless steel. Argon is used to

homogenize liquid steel by stirring the metal which facilitates the metal refining.
