Introduction : New Buzz in the Indian Real Estate Sector
The environment for real estate funding in India has changed for the better with the
following recent developments:
The 2014 National Budget released by the Indian Finance Minister made critical
reforms to develop India’s real estate sector.
A pass-through tax regime for REITS.
SEBI's new regulatory framework for REITS.
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) rules for low-income housing projects.
The permissible limit on deductibility of interest on home loans has been raised.
The Economic Survey holds promise for further reforms for of distressed investments.
In addition, new types of players such as overseas pension funds have directly entered
the Indian real estate funding and investment market.
These measures have created a new buzz in India’s real estate sector. Further investment
activity is now anticipated given the new optimism. Accordingly, IVCA is convening this
real estate private equity conference in Mumbai in 19th September, 2014. This event
will analyze and discuss the new implications and methods of financing real estate by
means of private equity and REITs.
