IDA was formed in the year 1949 .

All India Dental Association(1928) by Dr. R. Ahmed .

FUNCTIONS

{1} Holding periodical meetings & conferences of the members of the association & of the dental profession in general .

{2} Encouraging the opening of libraries in the branches &buying books out of the funds of the association .

{3} Publishing from time to time papers related to dental researches conducts by members independentaly .

{4} Encouraging research in dental & allied sciences & maintain international contacts with foreign dental association .

{5} Protects people from unethical treatment by unqualified practitioners .

{6} Trying to set exemption from custom duty for essential dental materials & instruments .

IDA today has grown into a giant body , comprised of 28 state branches & 300 local branches representing 50,000 dental professionals .

[1] All members shall be supplied with a copy of the journal & such other publication of the association free of cost .

[2] All members can use the library & association rooms if any .

[3] All the members have the right to attend or take part in discussions in all general meetings , lectures & demonstrations or conferences organized by the association .

[1] To appoint committees or sub-committees & standing committees .[2] To appoint or remove salaried officers & servants of the association .[3] All properties of the association is under the control of the central council i.e. all transactions & management of these properties are to be carried out by the central council only .[4] To represent to government , public bodies or any constituted authority , for any matter in which the interests of the association or the dental profession affected .

COMPOSITION

1 REGISTERED DENTIST possessing a recognized dental qualification elected by the dentists registered in part A of each state register .

1 MEMBER elected from amongst themselves by the members of the MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA .

1 MEMBER to represent each state nominated by the government of each such state from among persons registered either in medical or dental register of state .

6 MEMBERS nominated by the central government of whom atleast one shall be a registered dentist possesssing a recognized dental qualification & practicing & holding an appointment in an institution for the training for dentists , and atleast 2 shall be dentists registered in PART B of a state register .

The DCI is a statutory body which maintains the standard of dental education and further the duty of the council to registered qualified dentist and eliminate quacks from the field .

TO SERVE ABOVE FUNCTIONS THE DCI HAS FORMED SOME RULES & REGULATIONS IN WHICH THE FOLLOWING ARE SPECIFIED

[1] Basic principles for the maintenance of minimum education standard for the B.D.S. degree .

[2] Minimum physical requirements of a dental college .

[3] Minimum staff pattern for undergraduate dental studies in colleges with 40 , 60 and 100 addmissions .

[4] Basic qualifications & teaching experience required to teach B.D.S. & M.D.S. Students .

[5] Migration establishment of dental facilities , its duration of course , selection of students .

[6] Migration & transfer rules for students .

[7] Regulations of scheme of examination for B.D.S. & M.D.S

[8] Dental Curriculum :- Time & subject specifications to clinical program , syllabus etc .

Elections shall be conducted in the prescribed manner & where any dispute arises regarding any such election , it shall be referred to the Central government whose decision shall be final .

An elected or nominated member shall hold office for a term of 5 yrs .
