Compare and contrast book and movie settings

• The movie was set in America to appeal to the American audience

• The book was set in England because the writer was English

• Several other changes had to be made, such as Yapp’s from being a deli (book) to being a hardware store (the movie)

Compare and contrast book and movie plot

• Omri was mugged in the movie, but not in the book. This added excitement to the movie.

• In the book, Omri used Boone’s drawings to ‘freak out’ his art teacher as they were so small. This was not in the movie – there was no Art teacher.

• The relationship between the two boys was different in the book compared to the movie. In the book they were friends on the street corner, in the movie they were friends at school.

Recommendation

• I believe that the movie be would be the best option because the movie gives the children a much easier understanding of the plot as well as a higher amount of action, engaging them in the story.
