Selection of Materials
• Selection of materials, with design of components for coach
interior including toilets, lighting, PIS, surveillance system,
ducting and fan scheme along with supply of the same. where
applicable should be obtained from test houses approved by
RDSO/ICF.
ICF’s Scope of Work
• ICF shall provide compreg flooring, water tanks,
electrical wiring, electrical cubicles, battery and EFT
boxes. ICF will also provide air brake system, draw
gear and under gear equipment.
Bogie – What ?
• It is an independent unit used under a long vehicle,
usually mounted on two pairs of wheels.
• The bogie trucks can swivel and adjust it’s position
with case and without restraining the vehicle body
while negotiating a curved track.
Bogie Frame
• All welded light weight construction.
• The two main sole plates of ‘I’ section are connected at other
ends by headstocks and at the centre by the transoms.
ICF BOGIE
• ICF Bogie is a conventional railway bogie used on the majority of indian
Railway mainLine passanger coaches. The design of the bogie was
developed by ICF,Perambur(Channai) in collaboration with the Swiss car
and Elevator Mnufacturing co.,Schli-Eren,Switzerland in the 1950.
SHELL
• The body shell is of integral light weight construction
consisting of separate assembly group for under
frame, side wall, roof and end wall. The individual
assemblies are joint to each other by welding.
TROLLEY
• Trolley is basically the separated part containing the wheel and
other similar components which are essential to run a coach.
When they are attached with the body they are called the
bogie.
Maintenance Of Trains
• The maintenance of the trains is an important criteria
for every coaching facility and workshop.

SEPARATION OF COACH & BOGIE
• After watching the inspection list if bogie needs repair like
filling of oil or changing of brake shoe etc. then bogie is
separated from the coach by lifting through a crane.
Change Of Defective Wheels
• Wheels of train are subjected to a no of defects i.e.
reduce in the dia. of wheels, Reduce in size of flange,
break of bearing in axle box.
Brake Maintenance
• Brakes are the most important part of a train. The maintenance
of brakes consists of change of brake blocks, adjust stroke
length, change of brake cylinder, leakage in brake system etc.
