Game #96 Road Game #47 Louisville Bats 47-48, 2nd IL West RHP Daniel Corcino (4-11, 6.72 ERA) LAST TIME OUT: After more than four hours of a back-and-forth contest at Huntington Park, the Indianapolis Indians (59-35) and Columbus Clippers (42-52) were suspended in the top of the 13th inning with the score tied 4-4 ... Four Tribe relievers com- bined to not allow an earned run through a, by definition, “nine-inning complete game,” as they limited the Clippers to just one unearned run in 9.0 frames with only three hits, one walk and six strikeouts ... LHP Athaulpa Severino led the way by tossing 4.0 frames of one-hit ball to tie former Indians RHP Vin Mazzaro for the longest scoreless relief outing for the Tribe this year ... SS Brian Bocock, who was officially acquired just before Wednesday’s game, belted a solo shot in his second at-bat with the Indians ... The homer was his first of the season despite appearing in 22 games with Triple-A Syracuse and his first since Aug. 7, 2012 when he was with Double-A New Hampshire. SERIES SHOWDOWN: The Indians now begin a two-game set at Louisville Slugger Field where they have won nine of the last 12 matchups ... The pair of contests wraps up Indianapolis’ eight-game road trip in which the team has gone 2-3 thus far, and marks the final set of away games before theAll-Star break ... Entering tonight, 10 of 11 games in this season’s series between the Tribe and Bats have been decided by three or fewer scores ... With playoffs on the not-so-distant horizon, Indy opens the two-game set looking to build upon its 12.5-game division lead over the Bats as the Indians chip away at their magic number of clinching their second straight IL West Division title. ORG. REPORT: A trio of former Tribe rehabbers helped lead the Pirates to a 5-0 shutout and first-ever win over the Oakland A’s last night ... RHP Francisco Liriano struck out six in 7.0 shutout innings to lower his season’s ERA to 2.00, before RHP Jeanmar Gomez authored a perfect ninth to slam the door ... RF Jose Tabata went 2-for-5 with a double and has now produced a .400 aver- age with 12 base knocks and four two-baggers in eight games since returning to the Bucs ... 2B Jerek Cunningham collected an RBI single as the starting second baseman for the Eastern League West’s team in the Double-AAll-Star game ... 1B Stetson Allie blasted his second homer with High-A Bradenton and has now hit 19 total dingers this year, the second-most in the organization behind Andrew Lambo (21) ... The 14th overall selection from this year’s MLB Draft, C Reese McGuire, went 3-for-5 with a run scored on Wednesday and is batting .522 in his first six professional games with the GCL Pirates. TRIBE TRENDS: Including yesterday’s 13-inning postponement, three of the Tribe’s last six games at Huntington Park have gone into extra-frames, with the teams playing a total of 61 innings over those six contests ... Felix Pie, Brian Bocock and Jared Goedert all launched longballs to give the Tribe 50 homers in 46 away games this season ... Despite playing in fewer contests, Indy’s 50 home runs on the road are now tied for the third-most in the ILbehind Scranton’s 54 HR in 47 contests and Buffalo’s 63 HR in 50 games ... Indians relievers combined to not allow an earned run through 9.0 innings yesterday and have not been charged with an earned run in 15.2 straight innings (since 7/8) ... Although RHP Brooks Brown surrendered five earned runs on July 7 at Toledo, the Tribe’s bullpen has still posted a fantastic 2.08 ERAwith no home runs through 10 games in July ... Entering tonight’s game, Indy’s bullpen has not surrendered a home run in 45.2 consecutive innings, a span that dates back to June 26 vs. Rochester when Tim Alderson yielded a one-out, seventh-inning solo shot to Chris Colabello. TONIGHT’S TRIBE STARTER: IL All-Star and Tribe ace LHP Kris Johnson (8-4, 2.86 ERA) will toe the slab in his 20th appearance (15th start) of the season and third against the Bats ... The former No. 40 overall selection of the 2006 MLB Draft continues to impress this season, and along with surrendering three or fewer runs in 17 of 19 games, he also currently ranks among league leaders in ERA(T-3rd), wins (T-4th) and WHIP (8th, 1.22) ... The southpaw has been especially dominant as a starter, going 8-3 with a 2.58 ERA, 27 walks, 60 strikeouts and the fifth-best average against among IL starters with his .236 clip ... Johnson has won five of his last six decisions, with his only defeat over that span coming in a tough-luck loss to tonight’s opponent, and since the calendar flipped to June, the left-hander has posted the best ERA in the entire International League at 1.82 ... The lefty’s 1.82 mark on the mound since June is also the second best among all Triple-A hurlers who have made at least five starts entering play tonight ... Although Johnson has posted a better ERA at home (2.18) than on away from Victory Field (3.49), he has gone unbeaten in his last six road starts since May 8, recording a 5-0 record with a 2.06 ERA (8 ER in 35.0 IP) over that stretch ... Johnson is 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two games against Louisville this season, including suffering a defeat on June 30 at Victory Field in which he allowed three earned runs over 7.0 innings of work. TONIGHT’S BATS STARTER: The Bats are expected to send RHP Daniel Corcino (4-11, 6.72 ERA) to the mound for his 18th game (17th start) of the campaign and third against the Tribe ... Corcino posted a 28-26 career record with a 3.57 ERA in 112 minor league games (67 starts) before entering the 2013 campaign ranked by Basbeall America as the No. 4 prospect in the Reds system and as possessing the “Best Slider” among Cincinnati farmharnds ... Louisville’s starter has factored into the final decision in 15 of his 17 appearances, but his 4-11 record includes the second-most losses among all IL hurlers this season ... Corcino has experienced a roller coaster of a year and is coming off a tough outing in which he was tagged for seven runs on eight hits over 7.2 frames of action on July 5 at Columbus ... However, prior to that defeat, the right-hander had delivered back-to-back quality starts vs. Roch- ester on June 24 and at Indianapolis on June 29, going 1-0 while allowing just four runs in 13.1 innings for a solid 2.70 ERA over that span ... Opposing batters in general have hit Corcino hard for a .311 average with 12 homers, but left-handers have especially abused the righty to the tune of a .348 clip with eight home runs and 15 doubles ... He last faced the Tribe in the aforementioned quality start on June 29, allowing only two runs in 6.0 frames. B.Y.O.G (oedert): 2B Jared Goedert went 2-for-6 with two runs scored and the game-tying homer yesterday to extend his current hitting streak to a season-high tying six straight games ... Over the six-game streak, the slugger is tied for fourth in the IL with eight runs scored while also producing eight hits, the second-most knocks on the team, with one double, a homer and three RBI ... Goedert has continued to heat up as the season has progressed, and after batting .213 in April, .236 in May and .261 in June, he has now hit safely in nine of 10 games in July, posting a .295 average with the second-most knocks on the Tribe (13) which includes two doubles, a homer and six RBI. THE POWER OF PRESLEY: With his 2-for-6 effort onWednesday, LF Alex Presley has now recorded a multi-hit effort in three of his last four games, and like Goedert, the outfielder has hit safely in nine of 10 contests in July ... Presley has been on fire during the fourth month of the season, and along with batting .356, he ranks tied for the league lead with 16 hits, as well as tied for fourth in the IL with seven runs scored. SKY PIE: Felix Pie belted his seventh homer of the season yesterday ... The blast marks Pie’s third homer over his last five games, which is tied with IL veteran slugger Mike Hessman for the most longballs over that span, and was his league-best seventh extra- base hit (four doubles, three homers) during the month of July ... Since beginning this month, Pie has belted seven of his nine hits for extra-bases, and including his three steals, he has now moved into a tie for second in the IL with 22 total bases during July.
