Individuation ProcessIndividuation Process• The individuation process describes

the process of becoming inwardly whole, discovering one's true self, beyond the mask of the persona and ego centered life.

• The principle of individuation defines the essence of the human.

Persona

• The persona is a compromise one creates between himself and the community about how one appears to be.

Shadow• The shadow is described as composed of the

dark elements of the personality, having an emotional and primitive nature which resists moral control.

• When one tries to see his Shadow, he becomes conscious, and often ashamed of, the characteristics and impulses that he denies in himself but sees clearly in other people: for example we say "Oh, it doesn’t matter. Nobody will notice, and besides other people are doing it too".

Anima/Animus• Anima is the inner feminine side of a man; Animus

is the inner masculine side of a woman.• The steps: of Animusa. Dreams and fantasy as the embodiment of physical

power, an athlete, muscle man or thug.b.The animus provides her with initiative and the

capacity for planned action. He is behind a woman's desire for independence and a career of her own.

c. The animus is the "word," often personified in dreams as a professor or clergyman.

d.The animus is the incarnation of spiritual meaning.e. The animus mediates between a woman's

conscious mind and the unconscious

Wise Old Man/Great MotherWise Old Man/Great Mother

• It is personification of spiritual principle, which represents knowledge, reflection, wisdom, skill, and intuition in one side, and on another side moral qualities such as kindness and feeling to help that makes the character’s spiritual is fairly balanced. It is the continuation of anima/animus (Feist and Feist, 2006: 98)

• The Self, according to Jung, is not a kind of universal consciousness. It is rather an awareness of our unique nature and our intimate connection with all life.
