Central CoastThe Central Coast area is famous for it’s endless stretches of beaches and warm climate throughout the year. But beware of the prevailing winds coming from the sea, as they usually can destroy a well setup shot in a moment and get you into lots of trouble!

The best idea is to combine beach relaxation with challenging golf courses nearby. And after the game a spa treatment will get body and mind back on track.

Playing at Dalat Palace Golf Club is like entering an era long past. With its location in the mild climate of the central highlands, the course crosses through stately pine trees to oversized and delicately manicured bent grass greens. The Brett Stensen redesigned course measures 7,009 yards and is an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all levels. Low handicap players will be tested by a series of lakes, which meander through ten of eighteen holes, as well as strategi-cally placed bunkers, which penalize the miscalculating risk-taker. High handicappers will find relief with large accommodating greens normally left open for run-up approach shots, as well as wide, for-giving fairways.

Tips for playing golf in a hot climate Sunglasses will help with visibility and sunglare Decent shorts and polo-shirts are accepted on courses through-

out the region (Note: some courses will only allow a 3 button polo type shirt)

Bring a small towel to dry off sweat. Moisten a handkerchief is also a good way to cool down the face, hands and arms.

Bring 2 or 3 golf gloves and change every 3 or 4 holes Drink plenty of water before and during the game Avoid alcohol as it dehydrates the body Take short rests during the game without delaying other groups Don’t eat heavy meals on the course - eat fruits instead

Playing in hot weather creates special stresses to the body that you must watch for like dehydration and fatigue and in some more severe cases, heat exhaustion. So to perform at your best in the heat and avoid health risks while play-ing sports you need to take a few necessary precautions like the follow-ing tips and pointers: Book a Tee-time early in the morning Wear a cap or hat Apply sun block particularly on the ears, nape of neck, nose and other

exposed areas Wear light colored clothes made of a breathable fabric

Stay in the shade as much as possible when not hitting and carry an umbrella

Hit less balls when warming up Get plenty of sleep the night before playing 18 holes

Vietnam Golf & Country Club The Vietnam Golf & Country Club was carved out of the existing woodland. The West Course, which hosted the Vietnam Open in 1995 & 1997, winds its way through the trees offering challenging tee shots to the tree lined fairways before playing to the softly con-toured greens. The East Course offers more generous fairways than the West Course but is protected by well positioned bunkers, wa-ter hazards and undulating greens. The two courses give a flavorful golfing experience depending on what the golfer wants.

Sprawled over 130 hectares and just 25-minute drive to the north of the capital city, YCDC (Read: Yangon City Development Committee) Golf Club boasts of 2 18-hole courses with quite completely different characters. The Ngwe Taw Thar or Silvery Course is spread across a lower and flat plain with wide fairways and large greens. Not surprisingly, it’s also the friendlier of the two and it is the course for all levels. The Myakantha Course or Pondy Course, is more undulating with tight fairways and certainly more demanding for accurate play. Both nines will test the player’s stroke play ability equally. It staged the Asian PGA events twice, in 1998 and 1999.
