2015 WICF Junior World Series September 26 – October 3 | Brisbane, QLD PAGE 1 SEPT 2, 2015 | cricketaustralia.com.au Indoor Cricket World Cup heads to Brisbane Australia will look to extend their dominance in September’s world event The second edition of the World Indoor Cricket Federation (WICF) Junior World Series will play out in Australia for the first time. Previously held in Johannesburg in 2012, the tri-nations series is the premier competition for Indoor Cricket globally. New Zealand and South Africa will contest in the week-long tournament held at Toombul Indoor Sports Centre, the third Indoor tournament held this year in Queensland. Played every three years, the Junior World Series will see sixteen teams compete across four divisions (under-18 boys, under-18 girls, under-16 boys and under-14 boys) with the hosts fielding both Australia and Australia A sides. Cricket Australia’s Indoor Cricket Manager Paul Milo says the game is complimentary to the outdoor format and will see the best-of-the-best vying for the trophy. “Most of the players representing Australia in the event are also talented outdoor cricketers with many in talented elite outdoor pathway programs which further highlights that playing indoor cricket in the “off-season” is seen as a great way to continue to work on your skills for outdoor cricket,” Mr Milo said. 2012 saw Australia claim a trifecta of wins, narrowly missing out on the under-18 boys title, with Bailey Dickinson (current captain of the Cricket Australia under-16 XI) named Player of the Grand Final for the under-14 boys. Mr Milo also expressed excitement that New Zealand and South Africa were once again committed to the tournament and expected a larger nation turnout in 2018. “Whilst we would love to see the two Aussie sides play off against each other in each of the Grand Finals, it would also be great to see how far South Africa and New Zealand have progressed in the junior ranks over recent years.” The WICF Junior World Series will run from 26 September until 3 October in Brisbane in partnership with Cricket Australia. The tournament will be covered through www.indoor.cricket.com.au, you can get involved on Twitter through @CA_Indoor and by using the hashtag #IndoorJWS with the finals LIVE STREAMED for FREE.
