Role of the Personal Tutor Support for the transition from school to

Role of the Personal Tutor The personal tutor is the first point of contact for parents and
first point of contact for students Personal tutors closely monitor their academic progress, and
encourage them to achieve their potential throughout their time at College.
The personal tutor role is central to student progression. The personal tutor acts as a critical friend and will ensure students strive to achieve beyond their minimum expected grade
They will have two tutorials each week, plus there will be a number of one to one meeting with their personal tutor
Personal tutors support students to meet the challenges they will face at College and help them to look beyond Priestley. The personal tutor will guide and support students to their chosen goal, whether that is employment or HE
What makes a successful learner? Attend all sessions Be an independent learner Extend understanding of topics through
additional study Work with staff Think critically Balance outside interests and college
commitments

invitation) for level 3 first year students
