Pipe Marking BriefBENMARK Benefits®
Why choose BENMARK for your Pipe Marking projects?
BENMARK high performance marking products provide extended service temperature range, strong chemical resistance, seawaterabil-ity and long life span, making them the solution of choice for industrial, offshore and harsh environments around the region.
BENMARK markers and tags are fully customizable: legends, design, colors, size, to fullfill your specific environment, industry, regional and end-user rules, practices and specifications, including full compliance with ASME/ISO/NBR/GHS standards. Standard that use color matching options (RAL, British Standard and Pantone Standard).
BENMARK markers and tags are manufactured “on-demand” in our Singapore facilities. We offer the shortest leadtime and most competitive value in the market to satisfy your critical deadline and budget targets.
Pipe Marking Role & Importance
In the face of increasing regulations, more complex piping systems
and shorter time to market, the “good old ways” of marking pipes
with paint or stencils and manual labelling of blank valve tags are
not appropriate anymore.
Pipe Marking Benefits
Adequate pipe marking allow quick identification of pipes content and valves function using relevant color code and legends.
Correctly defined and installed pipe markers and valve tags increase safety, facilitate maintenance and minimize downtime while simplifying commissioning and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Pipe Marking Compliance Which Standard ?
BENMARK Pipe marking products are designed to comply to the rules, practices and regulations of your industry.
Compliance
For Marine & Offshore: ISO 14726:2008*, NBR6493 [Brazil] For Industrial Installation: ASME 13.1-2007*For Chemical & Pharmaceutical Plants, GHS Rev 5*/SS586
Custom & Compliant Design
While regulated by standards, most of the projects require specific legends, P&ID line number, etc. in one or more languages.
Based on your requirements, we will apply our knowledge on the differences often ambiguous and conflicting international standards, to propose pipe markers dimensions, legends and design that suit your needs.
Our proprietary BENMARK label generator software ensure efficient creation of pipe markers artwork matching your requirements for your review: with or without directional arrows, uni-directional or bidirectional, mono or bilingual texts while complying with the standard of your choice, including color coding and sizing.
BENMARK pipe markers “on-demand” manufacturing process, with integrated color proofing matching, provide short deadline even for small quantity and custom designs.

Marine & Offshore Applications
Pipes identification on ships and offshore installations is considered as one of the most important when it comes to the safety of employees and to the proper operation and maintenance of connected machines and equipments.
Introduction to ISO 14726:2008
Also referred as “Ships & Marine Technology - Identification Colors for the content of Piping Systems”.
This standard provides strong guidelines for the design of pipe markers and for theirlocation, while leaving enough flexibility for customization of labels, shapes and languages used to fit each specific situation.
ISO 14726:2008 Color coding
Since its 2008 revision, ISO 14726 recommends using a dual color code, with the main color, surrounding the marker and specifying the medium group, while the secondary inner color is used to differentiate the specific medium.
BENMARK pipe markers are fully compliant with ISO 14726:2008 and are available for full wrap-up of pipe up to 40” diameter.

GHS Rev 5 Specifications
Most countries have adopted GHS Rev 5 as part of their standard framework for labelling of storage and transport of hazardous substances.
More specifically, rule 1.4.10.5.5.1 “Workplace labelling” explicity states that GHS labels should be applied to “piping systems including valves” and that such installations should ensure clear hazard communication through the “use of displays with GHS symbols, color and signal words in piping systems and processing equipments”.
GHS Pipe markers Design
Pipe markers design specifications are based on a combination of pictograms, colors, signal words and rules on how to apply and combine these.
With the advent of mixtures, each situation and its related set of markers has become very specific and close to unique.
BENMARK pipe marker generator software allow us to quickly generate your GHS specific labels. Combined with BENMARK “on-demand” manufacturing, we can deliver in record time hundreds of differents GHS compliant pipe markers to fulfill your requirements.

Marker Types
Single-Label: For closed spaces or indoor installations, half or full wrap stickers are sometimes either not practical nor economical. In such cases we recommend to use individual labels with optional wrap around arrow stripes.
Half-wrap: Where access or angle of visibility is limited, these markers cover half of the pipe diameter. They are an economical choice to be ISO 14726 compliant for pipe diameter above 8”.
Wrap-Around: With a two inch wrap-around surface, they fully cover the pipes and provide increased bonding due to the overlap. They are strongly recommended for marine and offshore, and are mandatory up to 8” pipe diameter in ISO 14726:2008.
Marker Materials & Structure All BENMARK pipe markers series are printed using eco friendly solvent inks for maximum outdoor durability, with the printed graphics between the substrate and the overlamination for maximum protection.

BENMARK™ Pipe markers: Quick Installation Guide
• BenMark™pipe markers
• PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
• Utility knife [aka pen knife)
• Masking tape
• Squeegee
Prepare your tools• Cloth or paper towels
• Isopropyl alcohol in spraycan
• Garbage bag [to collectrelease liner disposedduring installation]
Optional
• Determine the location where the pipe marker needto be installed [Refer to project specific compliancerules for details],
• Align the marker on the pipe, with the text parallel tothe pipe direction,
• Secure the marker at its center to the pipe usingmasking tape all across the marker. This creates ahinge allowing it to be applied one half at a time.
1. Align and secure your marker in place
• Carefully peel-off the release liner of the top part ofthe sticker while ensuring the marker stay in place,
• Cut the revealed liner straight with your pen-knifewhile being careful of not cutting the marker itself,
• Discard the cut piece of liner.
2. Peel and cut 1st half of backing liner
• Starting from the center line , press the marker downto the surface with your squeegee,
• Always begin in the center and rub out and awaytowards the edges, overlapping strokes to removeany air trapped. Continue until you have appliedfully the first half of the marker around the pipe,
• Remove the masking tape used to secure themarker in position.
3. Apply 1st half and remove securing tape
• Carefully peel the 2nd half of the marker from itsliner and discard the liner,
• Starting from the center line, press the marker downto the surface with your squeegee using sametechnique as in step 3 until you fully wrap-aroundthe pipe.
4. Apply 2nd half
• Keep your ready-to-install pipe markers away from any liquids and overspray
While cleaning and doing preparation work, put the pipe markers in a safe place to avoid damage. The backing paper will wrinkle if it gets wet and will be difficult to peel off.
• For best results, we recommend pipe surface temperature range during installation : 10°C (50°F) to 45°C (113°F)
Rule of thumb is for surface to feel from slightly cold to warm on touch. Outside this range, adhesive will be harder [cooler T°] or gummy [higher T°], hindering installation anddecreasing the ability for the glue to achieve its stated performance.
• The surface should be clean for good and long-term adhesion
If it’s not the case, wash with a degreaser, rinse off, dry with a clean towel or cloth, finish up the cleaning by wiping down the entire expected area with isopropyl alcohol. Toavoid recontamination during the final cleaning step, wipe in just one direction using a a clean, lint-free towel or cloth. Let the alcohol evaporate entirely before applying thepipe marker.
• Take your time and be careful during installation until you are confortable with the process
Pipe markers already installed cannot be peeled up and put down again if you wrinkle them during application. We are not responsible for graphics damaged during application.
