I Who hires industrial technologists?There is a critical need in business and industry for

supervisors and managers who possess a combinationof technical and managerial backgrounds. For example,U.S. companies are facing increased competition in theglobal marketplace and are using advancedtechnologies to improve and update manufacturingfacilities and product designs. As the applications forautomation technologies continue to grow, productiontechnologists are finding jobs in design, manufacturing,installation, quality control, maintenance and service ofthese systems.

In addition, progress in electronics technology is thedriving force behind evolutionary changes in the jobmarket for modern automation, telecommunication,computers, instrumentation, controls, consumerelectronics, and other industrial sectors.

Jobs in power, energy and transportationtechnology are also in high demand. They includemanagement and technical positions in research anddevelopment, automobile manufacturing, design andservice, aerospace, electrical and gas energygeneration/distribution, education and government.

I recently began an internship with Dassault Systemes of America,where I am employed as an applications engineer. My experiencesat Cal State L.A. have greatly contributed to my ability to work forthis company. Besides taking classes, I have participated in schoolactivities, including the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)Super Mileage competition. The combination of classwork andschool activities has greatly enhanced my chances of succeeding inthis real-world opportunity.

The most exciting part of my job at Eco Soul is working with fuelcells, which many researchers believe represent the future of energyproduction. The presentation skillsthat I learned helped me to succeed at many symposiums,including the United Nations Summit. • Advanced Manufacturing—robotics, CAD/CAM,rapid prototyping

• Electronics—industrial controls, electroniccommunication, mechatronics, Cisco internetworking

• Power/Energy/Transportation (PET)—powertechnology, electronic and computer controlsystems, power generation, distribution andutilization, hybrid and electric vehicles,alternative fuels

• 3-D Design—parametric modeling, surfaces

You will gain outstanding knowledge in this majorthrough hands-on experience as well as small classestaught by award-winning faculty, who work closelywith students to ensure their success.

Labs and facilitiesThe College of Engineering, Computer Science, and

Technology labs are state-of-the-art and offer thenewest equipment available.

Industrial Technology labs include:• Computer labs, featuring the latest hardware and

industry-standard software for design andmanufacturing such as SDRC/Ideas, Solidworks,Pro/ENGINEER, CATIA V5, Autodesk products,Solid Edge and MasterCAM.

• Advanced Manufacturing Labs, where you willmake use of robots and automated equipment tocreate fully functional models and prototypes.

• Electronics Labs, which offer students access to theWeb via wireless laptops.
