What is Industrial Training?

• From the EAC manual 2012…• “It is an exposure to professional engineering practice

in an engineering-practice environment”• “Industrial training shall be for a minimum of 8 weeks

of continuous training. One credit hour is allocated for every two weeks of training subject to a maximum of six credit hours. The training shall be adequately structured, supervised and recorded in log books/report. The industrial training must be conducted before the final semester”

Page 6: Industrial Training Briefing Part 1-Degree & Diploma-For ISO

From the EAC Manual 2012…• “Familiarity with all common engineering processes is

essential and exposure at a practical level to a wide variety of processes is required at a level appropriate to the young professional”

• “…….it is clearly desirable for students to get a feel of the skills involved, however, the central aim is to achieve appreciation, not to acquire craft skills.”

• “……..many of the latest processes and large scale or costly operations can only be the subject of observation or demonstration, and visits to engineering works may be helpful in many such cases.”

Page 7: Industrial Training Briefing Part 1-Degree & Diploma-For ISO

Objectives of Industrial Training..from our perspective..• Expose students to

engineering practices in the industrial sector under the supervision of experienced engineer or technical staff.

• Expose students on matters relating to human relations, engineering management, human resource management and the like in the industrial sector.
