Steps
of
Construction
Column
Layout of Columns :-Check the location of columns from thedatum location. If any deficiency takeplace within permissible limits, madeadjustments accordingly, otherwisereconstruction of column is done.
Filling of Starters :-Starters makes the actual positions forconst. of column. made of mortar orlean concrete. Thickness varies from 4-6mm. Make the base to shuttering.
Shuttering of columns :-Shuttering is either made of wooden orsteel.(Preferably steel). Verticality ofshuttering could be checked by usingplumb bob and thread. Cover blockmust be provided for better finishing ofcolumn .
Reinforcement of Columns :-Reinforcement is done as per given indrawings. Check should be made to thesplice length. As the lateral ties spacingvaries along the length of column hencespacing should be properly maintained.
Concreting and curing :-Casting of column is done by boomplacer. Vibrator should be used forcompaction and finishing purpose.Shuttering of column is removed after3 days. Curing of column ids made byhanging the gunny bags or sprinklingthe water at regular interval.
Checking the level of column :-After the construction of column ofcolumn the level and height is checkedby means of measuring tape and totalstation. It gives actual level of columnand floors construction.
Construction of Beam and slab
Formwork of beam and slab :-Formwork of main beam is first laid on thecolumn, then secondary beam shuttering isplaced. After it, slab formwork is laid.Shuttering is supported by tubularscaffolding which can be adjusted later on.
Reinforcement of slab:-Firstly reinforcement of beam is done as pergiven in drawings. Care should be taken forcurtailed bar and maintain the spacing ofsttruips. Then steel of slab is laid down tothe required spacing. Top bar and sunkenportion should be properly checked.
Leveling of beam and slab:-After the reinforcement the level of beamand slab are checked. a) marking with thepaint on the columns bar at equal level bymean of water pipe b) Join the all point bymeans of thread then with the help of tapecheck the level of beam and slab. If requiredadjustment by mean of jack in scaffoldings.
Electrical fitting and fixtures :-After the checking of slab and beam level orsizes, the electrical engineer fit all electricalfitting such as point , pipe, outlet point etc.as per prescribed in electric drawing.
Oiling and place cover block :-Oiling of shuttering is necessary for easyremoval of formwork and finishing ofsurface and if there is any spacing or gap atshuttering joint then should be filled withthe form or thermocol. Then cover block areplace at regular interval .
Concreting, Curing and De-shutteringCasting of slab and beam is made by means of boom placer. Vibrator should be used atregular frequency for better compaction. The thickness and finishing of slab should beproperly maintained. The curing of slab and beam is done sing the ponding method andsprinkling of water. The shuttering is removed after 7 days of casting.

Tests & Experiments
• Slump Test
• Bulking of Sand
• Compressive Test
• Silt Content
• Weight of Steel
• Compressive Test of Brick
• Efflorescence Test
• Water absorption test
• Grading of Aggregate
Slump Test
Observation and calculations-:
Proportion of sample = M25
Water Cement Ratio = 0.446
Slump Value = 105mm
Sr. No. Slump value Degree of Workability Uses at site
1 Less than 25 Very Low Precast work
2 25-75 Low Road pavement
3 75-100 Medium R.C.C footing
4 Greater than 100 High Column, beam
Result- Our sample is coming in category 4. When concrete is transported
through pump then its value should be taken more as to standard.
Bulking of Sand
Observation and calculation-:
Height of loose sand = 150mm
Height of saturated sand = 144 mm
Percentage of Bulking = 4.16%
Result-: Value of bulking of sand
is 4.16%. This value should not
be greater than 5% as per
standard.
Compressive Test
Observation and Calculation-:
Proportion of concrete = M25
Cross-section Area = 15x15=225 cm3
Breaking Load = 770 KN
Compressive strength after 28 days = 34.2 KN/mm2
Result-: Compressive Strength of concrete sample after 28 days is 34.2N/mm2
. Whereas strength requirement is 25 N/mm2
, hence tested sample is safe.
Silt Content
Observation and Calculation-:
Height of sample = 150ml
Height of silt after 3 hours = 6ml
Percentage of Silt = 4%
Result-: Its value does
not increase more than
6% by volume.
Weight of Steel
Observation and Calculation-:
Sr. No Dia. of Bar Standard Wt.(D^2/162.2) Actual Weight
1 8mm 390gm 390gm
2 10mm 620gm 620gm
3 12mm 890gm 890gm
4 16mm 1580gm 1550gm
5 20mm 2460gm 2425gm
6 25mm 3850gm 3845gm
Result-: From the result we can check most of value is matching with each other.
Compressive Test of Brick
Observation and Calculation-:
Area of Brick-: 25300 mm2
Load at failure-: 19860 kg
Compressive strength-: 78.5 kg/cm2
Result-: Compressive strength ofbrick is 75 kg/cm2, so that iscoming under Class B.
Efflorescence Test
This test is performed to know the presence of any alkaline matter in the brick.
Nil- When there is no perceptible deposit of efflorescence.
Slight- when not more than 10% of the area of the brick is covered with a thin
deposit of salt.
Moderate- When there is a heavier deposit covering up to 50% of area.
Heavy- When there is too much salt in brick exceed 50%.
Water absorption test
Observation and Calculation-:
Weight of Sample-: 3.86 kg
Weight of Dry sample-: 3.5 kg
Water absorption-: 10.1%
Result-: Compressive strength of
brick is 75 kg/cm2, so that is
coming under Class B.
