IoT ….. how it all started …..
IoT was coined by British entrepreneur Kevin Ashton in 1999
What if I took the radio microchip out of the
credit card and stuck it on my lipstick? If a
wireless network could pick up data on a card,
it could snatch data off a chip on a lipstick
package and tell the store what was on the
shelves.
The Internet of Things
allows objects to be
sensed and controlled
remotely across existing
network infrastructure Kevin Ashton: “The Internet of Things has
the potential to change the world.”

IoT
Each thing is uniquely identifiable
• IoT is a technology trend
that enables
connectivity between
systems - that were not
IP addressable before -
to generate new,
measurable economic
value, new ecosystems,
platforms, and new
business models.

iiOT
• iiOT = IoT for Industrial Automation
iiOT = Digital Automation Systems + (wireless) Internet

The value of iiOT ………
Often expressed in mind-boggling numbers

iiOT and OneWireless
Share the same principle of IP addressable devises

ISA100 Wireless - IP addressable
ISA100 Wireless (also known as IEC 62734)
• All ISA100 Wireless compliant
devises have IPv6 addresses.
• ISA100 Wireless is the only
industrial wireless protocol
standard to incorporate IPv6
directly as part of its network
layer and transport layer.

Why does IPv6 in ISA100 Wireless matter?
ISA100 Wireless = end user driven industry standard
• Seamless end-to-end routing
• Supports multiple subnets
• Sensors can be grouped
• Breaking the network into zones for best security
• Supports subnet-level mesh, as well as backbone-level
routing.
• Familiar standards-based addressing
• Managed traditional IT network management tools and
systems.
• For all advantages of IPv6 in ISA100 Wireless please

iiOT and OneWireless - Summary
OneWireless protects your investment
• All OneWireless components, Wi-Fi
clients as well as ISA100 Wireless
Field Instrumentation, are are IP
addressable
• Deliver near real time performance
• OneWireless network management
principles are iiOT alike
• Both iiOT and OneWireless apply
traditional IT network management
tools and systems.
