E�ective lightning protectionWe develop and produce for more than twenty years, lightning protection for wind turbines. At this, we concentrate on the external lightning protection of the WPT as well as on discharging electrostatic currents.

Our components are an important part for lightning protection systems for WPTs. The aim of the external lightning protection is the direct discharge of the lightning impulse by the collec-ting assembly of the WPT, up to the grounding equipment.

The direct discharge is to avoid mechanical damages at the WPTs and to protect the powersystems and control systems in the machine house from disturbing influences. The rotor blades are equipped with receptors which conduct the lightning current to the hub. From there, the current is conducted to the tower structure and finally to the grounding equipment.

The concept for the protections against lightning of a WPT should be devised in agreement with the manufacturer by a specialist, making sure that the requirements of current standard regulations are met and the state of the art technology, the most recent knowledge about lightning physics and electromagnetic compa-tibility are taken into consideration.

Path of the lightning current through the wind turbine.

Rotor blade adjustment (pitch-adjustment)Here, the lightning current is for instance fed into the main shaft or a separate current pathtowards the machine house / tower used respectively.

Main shaftThe lightning current is discharged via a rotating movement into the tower construction.

Nacelle (azimuth-drive)The lightning current is discharged via the tower to the earthing equipment located in the base of the WPT.
