Nuremberg, Germany. Siemens Indus-try has launched two modified motors for door control in industrial machines, with the new robust geared motor mo-dels Sidoor MDG 180 and Sidoor MDG 400. The characterizing feature of the new drive units is improved fit of the drive belts. In addition, a new plug-in cable system with a new pola-rity reversal-proof plug now combines both encoder and power conductor in a single cable, simplifying the preas-sembly of industrial machines and mi-nimizing the overall assembly effort.

Used together with automatic door control Sidoor ATD410W, the Sidoor MDG 180 and Sidoor MDG 400 gea-red motors with their IP56 protection rating allow the optimum control of door parameters, and consequently also of door drive characteristics. Sidoor MDG180 is suitable for moun-ting directly in the machine tool cabin for doors weighing up to 180 kilos, while MDG400 moves doors of up to 400 kilos in weight. The drive unit is maintenance-free and has a gua-ranteed service life of 1,000,000 cyc-les. «

Nuremberg, Germany. The automatic door control Sidoor ATD410W now comes with three new functions: “assisted drive”, “impulse drive” and “impulse stop”. The door control from Siemens is configured for industrial applications, and allows sim-ple door management, for instance of protection doors used in machine tools.

Automatic door control Sidoor ATD410W ensures the reliable movement of doors in compliance with DIN EN 13849, perfor-mance level cat. 2. A smart system soluti-on automatically calculates the optimum door traversing behavior for the respecti-ve application and ensures that this is continuously maintained. The new “assis-ted drive” function supports the displace-ment of even the heaviest doors without the need for buttons or sensors. “Impulse drive” allows the simple opening and clo-sing of doors by lightly touching the door handle, while the “impulse stop” function allows supported stopping of the door movement with only a minimal braking ramp. The field bus connection ProfiDrive makes for convenient parameterization, configuration and diagnosis of the control.

Convenient plug-in cable management provides a handy addition to the flexible system solution, simplifying preassembly of machine tools and any exchange of motor. The compact design makes for simplified retrofitting of the control in exis-ting systems. «

WLAN (IWLAN) for the transmission of process data. The Siemens soluti-on allows data to be exchanged reli-ably in real time between plant mo-dules, servers, Simatic S7 controls and also operating and observation stations.

Industrial Communication

The wireless set-up and intuitive pro-gramming using a modular concept based on Simatic Win CC SES (Se-quence Execution System) save the operator time when reconfiguring the system, which equates to a tangible competitive advantage. This leaves more time for actual testing, whether chocolate bars or lemonade. «

le. Running the engine within its optimal load range reduces both emissions and noise levels while sailing.

Hybrid propulsion technology in marine applications

The 40-meter „Sport Hybrid“ high-performance yacht carries up to eight people. The yacht has over 3,800 horse power and a maxi-mum speed of 23 knots. «

Naples / Italy. Siemens Industry has fitted the new „Sport Hybrid“ high-per-formance yacht made by the Italian shipyard Cantieri Palumbo with a die-sel-electric, hybrid propulsion system. The flexible, modular EcoProp system achieves considerable fuel savings and contributes toward reducing noise emissions while sailing.

The hybrid propulsion technology has now been extended to marine applica-tions. The Siemens EcoProp diesel-electric, hybrid propulsion system is being installed in the new high-perfor-mance yacht from Cantieri Palumbo. It contributes toward reducing fuel con-sumption, especially at low speeds. The extra efficiency results from ideal utilization of the diesel engine. This runs at constant speed, and drives a generator which, in turn, supplies the energy to the electric propulsion mo-tor. By means of the modular structure of the system, the EcoProp provides the optimal propulsion for every sailing situation and every route-speed profi-

the impressive stage set of this year’s CCtv Spring Festival gala was controlled by Siemens drive technology.

To achieve this „interleafing effect“, Siemens engineers deployed the concept of Integrated Drive Sys-tems.

Drive system for stage equipment

Beside the motor also the drive and control system were delivered by Siemens. Motors from Siemens and the motion control system Simotion D455 which is integrated directly into the closed-loop control module of the Sinamics S120 drive system, were used. This not only makes the entire control and drive system significantly more compact, but also ensures par-ticularly fast response, as there are no interfaces.

In addition to supplying and imple-menting the drive solution, Siemens also provided the technical support from the start of the rehearsal peri-od in mid-December 2013 to the live transmission on January 31, 2014. «

Beijing/China. Siemens Industry has implemented a drive system for the stage equipment at this year‘s Chine-se Spring Festival Gala. The Integra-ted Drive System allows simultaneous movement of five LED wall panels and ensures flexible movement of the sta-ge set. The Gala is the most popular television show in the People‘s Repu-blic of China and was broadcast live at the end of January by the Chinese state television company CCTV.

The Spring Festival Gala is regarded as one of the biggest annual TV high-lights in China. The organizers‘ de-mands on the stage set are corres-pondingly challenging. This year five LED wall panels had to be moved freely so that one moment they would appear as background scenery, and the next as a brightly colored ceiling, or as individual partitions with chan-ging images. At the same time, each change in position of the individual pa-nels had to be completed in the shor-test possible time.

SalzburgMilch processes around 210 million kilogramm milk every year

Alongside milk pasteurization, which takes place in 28 tanks with a volu-me of around 560,000 liters, other in-tegrated processes include sour milk production using 30 tanks with a vo-lume of around 400,000 liters and sterile production with four tanks and around 70,000 liters.

Process control system PCS 7

Simatic PCS 7 also controls the two fruit mixing systems, which each have an hourly output of around 5,000 liters, milk reception for six raw milk varieties (eight tanks with a volume of just under 500,000 liters) and the ice water preparation and well water system. Recently, new storage tanks, filling systems and ex-ternal installations as well as additio-nal sections of the dairy such as whey concentration, a new high-bay warehouse, the palletizing system, concentrate storage and the CIP (Cleaning-in-Place) system with se-ven cleaning circuits were also integ-rated into the process control sys-tem.

Salzburg, Austria. The company Salz-burgMilch GmbH processes around 210 million kilos of milk every year into a varied range of around 600 dif-ferent products from milk, yoghurt and butter through to cheese. Salzburg’s biggest dairy operation exports around 119 million kilos of processed organic milk to countries including Germany. By using the Simatic process control system PCS 7 from the Siemens In-dustry Sector in its production, along-side software modules developed spe-cifically for dairy operations, SalzburgMilch has succeeded in im-proving the efficiency of its plants and increasing both its production output and the diversity of its product mix.

The wide range of products and the high speed at which the products have to be processed call for precise pro-duction control. That is where the Si-matic PCS 7 process control system from Siemens comes into its own as a higher-level automation solution. The most important production steps in milk processing are already integrated into the process control system.

SalzburgMilch gmbh600 different products

Integrating all the plant data into the Simatic PCS 7 process control sys-tem has meant more efficient plant operation, lower repair costs and a more flexible work process. Both the production volume and diversity of the product mix have been conti-nuously increased. Another benefit is a permanent on-site support pre-sence at SalzburgMilch, which ensu-res fast response times and simpli-fies any required reorganization processes during ongoing operation.

Siemens is currently working on a precision concept for SalzburgMilch which will make for more efficient energy consumption and is aimed at reducing the time spent on the log-ging and updating of maintenance data. «

Over 6,000 machine installations

Russell Wheeler of Siemens lndustry talks about the project: “Precision Engineering was impressed by our automation technology: from Integra-ted Safety functionality and the con-nectivity of the drives to the remote diagnostic capabilities which are of particular importance for Dico cap-ping machines installed around the world”.

Rick Aitchison, Sales Manager for ‚Dico & Gravfil‘ machines, sums up the results: “We have worked in close partnership with Siemens for eleven years. The first-class support and high quality products Siemens

Kent, United Kingdom. Special purpo-se machine manufacturer Precision Engineering from Kent, which has successfully installed around 6,000 machines around the world, relies on Siemens automation technology in its latest servo-controlled Dico capping and closing machines. One of its cus-tomers had a clear requirement for full traceability of every container capped, ensuring that the cap tightening pro-cess could be monitored and measu-red, and data acquired for future ana-lysis. The aim was to ensure that each container could be seamlessly traced through to its final destination.

For every cap tightened, the Dico cap-ping machine’s own PC records the tightening data picked up by a vision system, and a time stamped graph is automatically created and stored. The machine checks the condition of the cap prior to application, marking a unique serial number on every contai-ner.
