Industry Relations and Technology Transfer Office (IRaTT) was established in April 2009 to strengthen relationships among university, industry and governmental institutes.

The IRaTT’s role includes:

We continuously make exertions to improve the organization of our office and to promote university-industry-governmental institutes cooperative activities in order to make more contribu-tion to the progress of industry and society through transferring excellent research findings of the University of Tsukuba to the general public.

Tsukuba Office for Meeting Opportunities is a membership society whose purpose is to build deeper relationships between businesses and the University of Tsukuba and strengthen the basis of the university’s widespread contribution to society. The privilege of membership includes access to research information of the University of Tsukuba, support for commissioned research and cooperative research based on companies’ needs, support for creation of university spin-offs and technological consulting for businesses.

In fiscal 2012, the total number of cooperative researches at the University of Tsukuba was 311, with total funding reaching 690.77 million yen.The total number of commissioned researches was 240 for fiscal 2012 while total funding reached 3,660.51 million yen.

According to the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP)’s Academic Start-ups Survey in fiscal 2009 released in September 2011, the University of Tsukuba ranked fifth for the accumulated total of university spin-offs.
