• Lets begin with the do’s (positive tú commands)

To form the affirmative informal command of regular or stem-changing verbs, change the verb to the él, ella, usted form.

Negative Commands

• Negative commands require a little more work.

• It will take 3 steps to change a verb to the negative command form.

Negative Commands• To state the don’ts- negative (tú)

commands1. Conjugate the verb into the Yo form.

2. Change the ‘o’ ending to:

- es for –ar verbs

- as for –er and –ir verbs

3. Put ‘no’ in front of the verb.

STATEMENT COMMAND

(tú) fumas ¡No fumes! Don’t smoke!

(tú) corres ¡No corras! Don’t run!

(tú) duermes ¡No duermas! Don’t sleep!

• Don’t talk!...- Verb hablar

1. Put hablar in the yo form = hablo2. Drop the ‘o’ = habl

- It is an –ar verb, so add –es= hables

3. Put ‘no’ in front of verb = no hables

1. Put correr in the yo form= corro2. Drop the ‘o’ = corr

- Correr is an –er verb, so add –as= corras

3. Put ‘no’ in front of the verb = no corras

¡No corras en la escuela!
