Installation OverviewThis chapter includes the following topics:

¨ RulePoint Installer, 1

¨ Installation Options, 1

¨ Configuration Updates for LDAP, 2

RulePoint InstallerYou can install RulePoint in graphical or console mode on Windows, Linux, AIX, or Solaris.

You can install RulePoint from a DVD or from the root of the directory where you download the installation files. The RulePoint installer supports automatic installation and deployment of RulePoint on Apache Tomcat 6application server for Windows, Linux, AIX, and Solaris.

The RulePoint installer is a J2EE web application bundle that you can deploy in an Apache Tomcat 6 applicationserver. This bundle contains the following two core functions:

¨ The user interface to perform administration and configuration.

¨ The run-time engines that perform rule processing and alert management.

Note: The run-time aspect of the product requires significant resources, such as threads and memory from theparent container. You must deploy RulePoint and Real-Time Alert Manager in a separate instance of ApacheTomcat 6 application server where other applications are not deployed.

To install and deploy RulePoint on other supported application servers such as, Oracle WebLogic Server 10g, IBMWebSphere Application Server 7.0, and JBoss AS 4.0, see RulePoint Administrator Guide.

Installation OptionsThe RulePoint installer supports two installation types. You can either choose to configure and deploy RulePointdirectly to the application server or can choose to deploy RulePoint manually after the installation is over.

Full installation

Full installation configures and deploys the RulePoint package to the application server. The installer interactswith the database for validation and also sets up the database to populate the RulePoint tables. You mustensure the initial set up of a clean and configured database.

The installer interacts with the LDAP server or Active Directory server for authenticating the related settings.

1

Page 8: Informatica RulePoint - 5.2 HotFix 3. - Installation Guide ......The services area of the site includes important information about technical support, training and education, and implementation

Software Only installation

Use this option if you need to manually install and configure RulePoint. The Software Only installation createsthe RulePoint folder in the staging directory. This installation type does not access the database or deployRulePoint to the target directory of the application server.

In this type of install, the installer does not interact with the database. You must configure the database andthe database related properties files manually. You must create RulePoint tables by running tables-utf8.sqland quartz.sql. Use populate.bat in Windows, or populate.sh in UNIX to populate the tables.

For more information, see RulePoint Administrator Guide.

Staging DirectoryThe RulePoint package is installed in the staging directory before deploying to the application server.

You must enter the path to the staging directory during installation. The specified directory must be empty. Theinstaller creates the following files in the staging directory:

¨ Installer log file (for example, RulePoint_52_HF3_InstallLog.log)

¨ Installer properties file (for example, RulePoint-V5.2_HF3-Install.properties)

¨ Archive file of the RulePoint directory

The RulePoint archive file is later used by the installer to deploy RulePoint in the target directory of the applicationserver.

Configuration Updates for LDAPRulePoint supports three types of authentication mechanisms. You have to select the authentication type whileinstalling RulePoint.

An authentication mechanism defines rules about security information and the format of security information storedin both credentials and tokens. If you use LDAP as the authentication mechanism, you require additionalinformation to update the rulepoint-config.properties file. Sometimes, the configuration properties referencedhas different names in the installer. Then, the corresponding and the equivalent name of the property in rulepoint-config.properties file is provided in parentheses and in italics. In a few cases, both the installer and the rulepoint-config.properties file uses the same property name. For more information, see RulePoint 5.2 HotFix 3Administrator Guide.

Before You InstallThis chapter includes the following topics:

¨ Pre-Installation Tasks, 3

¨ Verify System Requirements, 4

¨ Set Up JAVA_HOME Path, 4

¨ Set Up the Apache Tomcat Application Server, 4

¨ Set Up the X Window Server, 5

Pre-Installation TasksBefore you install RulePoint, set up the machine to meet the requirements to install and run RulePoint. Theinstaller requires information about the database, the application server, and the authentication mechanism.

Complete the following tasks before you install RulePoint 5.2 HotFix 3:

1. On Linux, AIX, or Solaris the user who runs the installer must have read, write, and run permissions on theinstaller and its files directory. The user must have write access to the /tmp directory. The /tmp directory musthave sufficient space for the installer to perform the install.

2. Deploy a supported database server with the appropriate user permissions.

The database administrator creates the database and its user. The database user for RulePoint operationsmust have permissions to create, delete, select, and update tables on the database.

The following example is for an Oracle database:CREATE TABLESPACE CEP_TS DATAFILE 'C:\app\cepadmin\oradata\CEP_TS.DBF' SIZE 500M;CREATE USER rulepoint IDENTIFIED BY rulepoint DEFAULT TABLESPACE CEP_TS QUOTA UNLIMITED ON CEP_TS ;GRANT CONNECT, RESOURCE TO rulepoint ;GRANT CREATE SESSION, CREATE TABLE TO rulepoint ;EXIT;

3. Ensure that the database driver version matches the version of the installed database. When possible, usethe drivers shipped with the database.

4. Ensure that you have the license.dat file.

Contact Informatica Global Customer Support if you do not have a license key.

5. Set up an LDAP server if you are using LDAP for authentication.

3

Page 10: Informatica RulePoint - 5.2 HotFix 3. - Installation Guide ......The services area of the site includes important information about technical support, training and education, and implementation

Verify System RequirementsBefore you install RulePoint, ensure to meet the minimum system requirements to install and run the RulePointinstaller.

The following table lists the platforms supported by the RulePoint installer:

Domain Supported Platforms

Operating Systems - Windows- Linux- AIX- Solaris

Application Servers Apache Tomcat

Database Servers - Oracle- IBM DB2- Microsoft SQL Server

Recommended Hardware Requirements - 64-bit Intel or AMD-compatible, Xeon equivalent or better,1.7 Ghz minimum CPU

- 12-16 GB RAM- 5-10 GB application disk space- 1 GB Ethernet network connection

For more information about RulePoint support, see the Product Availability Matrix at https://communities.informatica.com/community/my-support/tools/product-availability-matrices.

Set Up JAVA_HOME PathInstall JDK 1.6 on the system where you want to install RulePoint.

Set the JAVA_HOME/bin PATH environment variable on the machine where you want to install RulePoint.

Set Up the Apache Tomcat Application ServerInstall and set up Apache Tomcat 6.0.16 application server.

Note: The folder names in the Tomcat installation path must not contain spaces.

1. Set the operating system environment variable %CATALINA_HOME% to the installation location of the Tomcatserver.

Set the environment variable for the entire system.

%CATALINA_HOME%="C:\tomcat\apache-tomcat-6.0.16"2. Create a setenv.bat file for Windows and setenv.sh file for UNIX.

Save this file in the %CATALINA_HOME%\bin directory.

4 Chapter 2: Before You Install

Page 11: Informatica RulePoint - 5.2 HotFix 3. - Installation Guide ......The services area of the site includes important information about technical support, training and education, and implementation

Use the following settings in the environment variable batch file:

Set Up the X Window ServerWhen you run the installer in graphical mode, you must use a graphics display server. On UNIX, the graphicsdisplay server is typically an X Window server. If you do not have the X Window server installed on the machinewhere you want to install the product, you can run the installer using an X Window server installed on anothermachine. Use the DISPLAY variable to redirect output of the X Window server to another UNIX machine.

The following table lists the commands to set the DISPLAY environment variable:

Shell Command Example

C setenv DISPLAY <TCP/IP node of XWindow server>:0 setenv DISPLAY 10.1.50.23:0

Bash/Korn export DISPLAY=”<TCP/IP node of XWindow server>:0” export DISPLAY=”10.1.50.23:0”

Bourne DISPLAY=”<TCP/IP node of XWindow server>:0”export display

DISPLAY=”10.1.50.23:0”export display

If you do not know the IP address of a UNIX machine where the X Window server is installed, ask your networkadministrator. For more information about redirecting the DISPLAY variable, see the documentation from the UNIXvendor.

If the X Window server does not support the font that the installer uses, the installer can display incorrect labels onthe buttons.
