Why Exchange to Lucknow?

Lucknow is the capital city of the state of Uttar Pradesh, India A major metropolitan city of India.It is the 10th most populous city of India and the second largest in North India. Lucknow has always been known as a multicultural city that flourished as a North Indian cultural and artistic hub and seat of Nawab power in the 18th and 19th centuries. It continues to be an important centre of government, education, commerce, aerospace, finance, pharmaceuticals, technology, design, culture, tourism, music and poetry.

Lucknow is famous for its delicious food and culture of tehzeeb (urdu word for humbleness), poetry, arts and famous historical places. Lucknow is also very close to Taj Mahal, Jim Corbett National Park and other famous places in North India.

And you will get a Huge Cross-Culture Experience as lndia have Culture Diversity and you will set with Students From Different nationalities So your Relation Circle will be huge, You will Depend on yourself as you will lead your life alone at this 6 – 8 weeks.

Apart from this, Lucknow is very cheap in terms of living, so you won’t spend a lot of money while doing your exchange and can enjoy all the activities here.

How is the weather?

Lucknow has a humid subtropical climate with cool, dry winters from November to February and dry, hot summers from April to June. The rainy season is from July to mid-September, when the city gets an average rainfall of 896.2 millimetres (35.28 in) from the south-west monsoon winds, and occasionally frontal rainfall will occur in January. In winter the maximum temperature is around 25 °C (77 °F) and the minimum is in the 3 °C (37 °F) to 7 °C (45 °F) range.[33] Fog is quite common from late December to late January. Occasionally, Lucknow experiences colder winter spells than places like Shimla and Mussoorie which are situated way high up in the Himalayas. Summers are extremely hot with temperatures rising into the 40 °C (104 °F) to 45 °C (113 °F) range, the average highs being in the high of 30s (degree Celsius).

What will the accommodation be like? Accommodation is provided in different areas around Lucknow. The area you will be accommodated in will depend on where your project will take place. You will be staying in an apartment with other interns and will share a room with 2 other interns.

You will pay $100 to a member of the reception team as soon as you arrive Which is the cost of accommodation after it is being subsidized by our LC. There are different apartments for boys and for girls. The apartments have either one or two bathrooms and one kitchen. Electricity and water bills are covered. You can get Wi-Fi using a USB Modem which our reception team can help you buy.

How is the Food?

The Awadh region has its own distinct "Nawabi"-style cuisine. The best-known dishes of this area consist of various

kinds of biryanis,kebabs and breads. Kebabs are served in a variety of styles; kakori, galawati , shami, boti, patili-

ke, ghutwa and seekh are among the available varieties. The Tunde ke kabab restaurant has operated for more than a

century and is the most popular source of kebabs.The reputation of Lucknow's kebabs is not limited to the local

population and the dish attracts people not only from other cities but also from other countries.

Lucknow is also famous for its delicious chats, street food, kulfi, paan and sweets. Nahari, a dish prepared using mutton,

is very popular among non-vegetarians. Sheermal is a type of sweet bread (paratha) prepared only in Lucknow. Some

restaurants in the city are around 100 years old; there are also many high-end restaurants, bakeries, lounges and pubs

which cater to the affluent class and foreign travelers.

Who will pick me up? It’s very important that you inform us about your arrival one week in advance to make sure that the pick up from the airport is on time and pre organized. The exact pick up instructions will be communicated to you before your arrival by the reception team What Transportation to take?

Auto Rickshaw

Some other means like Auto Rickshaw may be hired for shorter routes. There are fixed rates for every route.

If you are going to some other place, please fix the rate with driver. For routine daily, you may take Auto rickshaw as the rates are very nominal (less than Rs.10) fixed and they can ply anywhere in the city.

You can find the rates of Auto in the Lucknow Helpline, however, they are likely to change. Buses are also plying but you will have to wait for them and times are not fixed. However, Lucknow is comparatively a small city and people are courteous and well behaved. Radio Taxi

There are a lot of Radio taxi services available which can be booked just by a phone call. It will be a bit expensive than regular auto rickshaws.

City buses

Lucknow city's bus service is operated by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), a public sector

passenger road transport corporation headquartered in MG road. It has 300 CNG buses operating in the city out of an

overall fleet of 9,500. There are around 35 routes in the city.

Inter-state buses

The major Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Inter-state Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Alambagh provides the main inter and intrastate

bus lines in Lucknow. Located on National Highway 25, it provides adequate services to ongoing and incoming

customers. There is a smaller bus station at Qaiserbagh. Kanpur Lucknow Roadways Service is a key service for daily

commuters who travel back and forth to the city for business and educational purposes. Air conditioned "Royal Cruiser"

buses manufactured by Volvo are operated by UPSRTC for inter state bus services.

Railways

Lucknow is served by several railway stations in different parts of the city. The main long-distance railway station

is Lucknow Railway Station located at Charbagh. It has an imposing structure built in 1923 and acts as the divisional

headquarters of the Northern Railwaydivision. Its neighbouring and second major long-distance railway station

is Lucknow Junction railway station operated by the North Eastern Railway. The city is an important junction with links

to all major cities of the state and country

Air transport

Bangalore, Thiruvananthapuram, and other major cities via Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport. The airport

is suitable for all-weather operations and provides parking facilities for up to 50 aircraft. At present, Air India, Air India

Express, Jetlite, Jet Air, GoAir, IndiGo, Saudi Airlines, Flydubai, Oman Air and SpiceJet operate domestic and

international flights to and from Lucknow. Covering 1,187 acres (480 ha), with Terminal 1 for international flights and

Terminal 2 for domestic flights, the airport can handle Boeing 767 to Boeing 747-400 aircraft allowing significant

passenger and cargo traffic.[73][74] International destinations include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat,Sharjah, Dammam,

and Jeddah.[75] Planned expansion of the airport will allow Airbus A380 jumbo jets to land at the airport; the Airport

Authority of India is also planning to expand the international terminal to increase passenger traffic capacity. There is

also a plan for runway expansion. It is the 10th-busiest airport in India, busiest in Uttar Pradesh, and second-busiest in

North India.

Cycling

Lucknow is among the most bicycle-friendly cities in Uttar Pradesh. Various bike-friendly tracks have already been

established near the Chief Minister's residence in the city. The four-and-a-half-kilometre track encompasses La-

Martiniere College Road next to Golf Club on Kalidas Marg, where the Chief Minister resides, and Vikramaditya Marg,

which houses the office of the ruling party. The dedicated four-metre-wide lane for cyclists is separate from the footpath

and the main road.

What is the Language in India?

The official language is Hindi and the majority of People do speak Hindi. However, you will find some People who can speak English; it won’t be fluent but they will be able communicate with basic words. The Urdu language is also a part of Lucknowi culture and heritage

Your project- who should I contact? If you want to know any info about your project, please contact your project manager or the person who matched and he will help you straight away. The project manager of the project will contact you within 24 hours of arrival. What is the currency of India and the rates of foreign currency exchange?

Indian Rupee is the official currency of India, its sign is like this (Rs.). Try to exchange your local currency to dollars, as it’s easier to exchange dollars to Indian Rupee. One Dollar is around 60 Rupees but it depends from time to time. There are many International Banks in Lucknow. So, you won’t be facing problem using your debit card or credit card

How much money should I bring?

• Your budget hugely depends on YOU; how much do you spend and how careful are you with your money. If you are looking to buy a lot of stuff and do as many sightseeing as possible your budget may get big. • The estimated budget for a period of 6 weeks can be as little as 300$.However, it can increase greatly depending on the numbers of the trips &outings you participate in. We recommend and advise you bring more than

that in order to be able to participate in all trips and to get the opportunity travel to different cities. • If you plan on buying souvenirs or shopping in general, then you will definitely need more money.

What to expect from AIESECers? • An AIESECer should meet or contact you within 24 hours max of your arrival. • Friendly, outgoing and willing to know about your culture. • Willing to show you the city and teach you about our daily habits and traditions.

When should I start working? • You should start working within 2-3 days max. • You will get orientated about India, AIESEC and our Local Entity as soon as you arrive; usually within your first one week.

register on the course. the course is so detailed that it will require you to fulfill a lot of tasks such as make your own budget and provided you stick and can save hundreds of dollars (the course explains how to do that). Also the course requires you to fill a PAT (Personality Assessment Test) and realize your own strengths and weaknesses and work on the weaknesses while you are here in India.

Generally, the course is a detailed way to prepare you for your Internship as well as India.

in the end there will a test. Only if an EP scores 50% marks in the same will that EP get a certificate stating that now the EP is prepared to come to India. this is mandatory for every EP, please take note of this.

EXPECATIONS FROM LOCAL COMMITTEE

• A responsible person for providing overall services to the intern and facilitating the intern’s reception and orientation during the internship.

MINIMUM LOGISTICAL SERVICES

• Provide a SIM Card within 2 days of arrival.

• Provide reasonable accommodation to the intern but always in accordance to city safety conditions.

• Provide orientation to the location and guidance for use of routine or important services such as registering with a doctor, how to use emergency services, public transportation, laundry, groceries, and pharmacy.

MINIMUM WORK ORIENTATION SERVICES

• An EP buddy to accompany the intern to the first day of work.

• Setting expectations with the intern’s supervisor regarding expectations of the internship job role, unless it is stated in TN form already.

• Frequency of communication/evaluation between the Organization and AIESEC.

• Get performance-related feedback from Organization or Hosting Entity on a regular basis throughout the internship.

MINIMUM AIESEC INTEGRATION SERVICES

• Introduction to the AIESEC Lucknow’s reality and culture if the intern wants.

• Provide communication platform for the intern to connect with other members of the LC if the intern wants(e.g. Local committee meetings/events)

MINIMUM CULTURAL INTEGRATION SERVICES

• Information about places of interest for the intern to visit (at least though country wiki in form of website links)

• Reception Booklet would be provided to the intern.

• Local cultural norms, including those related to dress, greeting, and traditions and law policies (through a wiki in form of website links)

MINIMUM ACCOMMODATION SERVICES

• Trainee house. (100 USD will be charged for accommodation & Basic reception fee)

• Mattress.

• Internet access and a SIM Card. (Intern will have to pay for Internet)

• Fans and Lights.

• Water for laundry and bathing.

• Responsible point of contact to resolve trainee issues.

EXPECTATIONS FROM THE INTERN

• The NPS survey has to be filled which would be sent by AIESEC International via mail thrice [1. After getting matched 2. During internship 3. After the internship]

• Do not leave the city without informing the local committee and the Organization/School working with.

• Always carry a Xerox copy of the passport.

• Do not leave the work place before you’re expected to.

• The flat must be kept clean and the intern is expected to avoid causing trouble to the owner and neighbours.

• Respect Indian Culture and Values and TRY to abide by them.

• The LC holds the right to fine an intern for any damage caused by him/her.

• Always keep us informed about your whereabouts before hand, we will guide you. Any kind of problem just let us know.

• Be careful with the belongings. The LC holds no responsibility for loss of any personal property of the intern.

• The intern is expected to provide a video case study before he/she finishes the internship.

HOW TO COME INTO THE CITY?

• Inform via text or mail about your date of arrival and flight timings.

• Use a public telephone booth which would be available in the airport to inform us about your arrival, as your phone wouldn't be working.

Please make sure that you are in touch with AIESEC in Lucknow TN Manager and he or she has the exact details of your arrival. Once you arrive in India, please give a call to the TN Manager and let him or her know about your plan as to when and how are you going to arrive in Lucknow. The intern is received at the airport regardless of the flight arrival time. Our team will be there at the airport, or the station to receive you.
