DAV Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, Jalandhar has been running the course of Bachelor in Physiotherapy since 1996. Master in Physiotherapy has been initiated since year 2009. The Institute is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. It is the only Physiotherapy Institute with in Punjab recognized by UGC. The Institute is a self financing/unaided non-profit centre for the benefit of citizens of Punjab. 10 Batches of Physiotherapists have graduated till now

thfrom this Institute & 11 is due to join internship. Our graduates are successfully employed across the globe. Out students have been bringing laurels to this Institute by bagging the top positions in PG entrance exams & as well as top university ranks in both graduate & PG classes.

We have a dedicated, highly qualified & perhaps the most experienced teaching faculty with in the state of Punjab. Besides our regular faculty of Physiotherapy, the institute also invites visiting faculty as resource persons who take academics dearly & also provide regular inputs for enhancement of our services. The faculty takes keen interest in promoting original research work at both graduate and post graduate level in relation to latest academic topics for effective evaluation, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients.

This unit manufactures artificial limbs and supplies aids and braces for persons with disability. Physiotherapy learning in DAVIPTR is a unique and satisfying experience. In addition , the orthoses are provided at the most competitive prices. More so a wide variety and range of products are available.

NEURO Department

The unit treats the problems which arise due to insult to brain, spinal cord or one or more nerves. The therapist targets the problems in muscle tone, sensations, balance fatigue, movements, Posture, walking pattern, functional Independence, pain and paralysis & no. of neurological conditions are attended to as stroke, spinal cord injuries, parkinsonism, CP, developmental delay, Amylotrophic lateral sclerosis, Gullian Barre syndrome, peripheral nerve injuries, post-polio syndrome, spine bifida, cerebral ataxia, traumatic brain injuries, motor neuron disease, myopathies, neuropathies, muscular dystrophy and transverse myelitis. Patient is fully assessed and treatment goals are set specific to each patient. It may comprise normalizing sensory input, tone, posture, balance, training stretching, strengthening, range of motion weight bearing exercises and core stabilization exercises, Vestibular Rehabilitation, Electrical stimulation and gait re-education are also prescribed profound use of biofeedback is unique feature. Advice is also given regarding the suitable walking aids and home adaptation and equipments.

ORTHO Department

Orthopaedic Rehabilitation provides relief to all types of joint and muscle problems. Unique feature is to understand biomechanical fault following any injury or orthopaedic disease and then correcting the same. We treat all conditions creating impaired posture, impaired muscle function, impaired joint mobility etc. Range of conditions that are regularly attended to in this unit are myalgia, strains, joint stiffness (bursitis), fracture (Post operative care), arthralgia all types of arthritis and spinal deformities and disorders. In cases related to spinal problems emphasis is laid on manual therapy in which disorders are treated especially with hands on approach.

I. ELECTROTHERAPY:-

Electrotherapy employs electrical energy, radiations, heat and cold for the treatment of impairments of health & conditions of abnormal physical functioning. The unit optimizes physiological functioning that forms the basis for successful treatment of physical ailments. Essentially it is the electrotherapy unit that makes physiotherapy a drug-less therapy and a viable alternative to medicines. The department is compartmentalized housing Indians and imported machines catering to a wide range of musculoskeltal, neurological, cardiopulmonary conditions sports injuries and occupational related problems.

II. EXERCISE THERAPY LAB:-

Exercise is the mainstay of the science of physiotherapy and is the foundation to pain free and normal bodily movements. The modes of the treatment are not limited to exercise prescription alone. But there is an exciting wide opportunity for professionals in manual therapy. Neuro developmental techniques, pilates etc. This is an important and integral part of managing operative and sports injury cases both of which are throwing new challenges to the physiotherapy professionals. The exercise therapy unit of the Institute receives numerous patients daily with neurological and musculoskeletal problems like cerebral palsy, Hemiplegia, quadiriplegia Muscular dystrophy etc.

HYDROTHERAPY LAB:-

Hydrotherapy on water therapy is the use of water (hot, cold, steam or ice) to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being DAVIPTR has a special hydrotherapy department which is unique in Punjab hydropherapy equipments such as whirlpool, contrast bath and cryotherapy instrument are widely used for managing spasticity and sports injuries. As Jalandhar is a hub of various sporting clubs and college. We receive several sports injuries cases and thus the students attending the hydrotherapy department get to learn the methodology of treatment of sports injuries in their formative years.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY:-

Occupational therapy is the therapeutic use of self care. Work and play activities to increase the independent function, enhance development and prevent disability which include adaptation of task and environment to achieve maximum independence and to enhance quality of life. The department also helps the BPT students in training the patient with disorders of find motor function and accomplishes total rehabilitation of an individual by the knowledge of adaptive devices, ADLS & sensory integration therapy. No other college of physiotherapy in Punjab has this facility and orientation.

ARTIFICIAL LIMB CENTRE:-

This unit not only manufactures artificial limbs but also supporting aids braces for persons with physical disabilities. It is collaborating with the physiotherapy teaching unit so that the trainees have a good understanding of the various orthoses & prostheses, their way of functioning and most importantly how & what to prescribe so that they are better oriented in their future careers. The presence of this centre makes physiotherapy learning at DAV Institute of Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation a unique and satisfying experience. No other college of Physiotherapy in Punjab has this facility & orientation.

ANATOMY LAB:-

Anatomy is the study of human structure, is the heart and core of the course. A through knowledge in the subject enables the students to appreciate how the movements are performed and the structures involved in the process. The Institute has fully equipped anatomy lab, not only to meet the requirement of the curriculum but to make the students equipped with thorough understanding of the basic subject and to lay strong foundation in order to deal with the subsequent mile stones with case along the course. The lab has facilities for cadaver dissection, human skeletons, real specimens of human organs and display of relevant charts and diagrams, educational or interactive CD-ROMS of various topics for focused learning.

PHYSIOLOGY & PATHOLOGY LAB:-

Physiology is the study of human body function and pathology the study of diseases organs. Both are basic medical subjects of the course. Engaging practical with theory lectures in these subjects allows acknowledgment of normal and abnormal bodily functions with an understanding of subsequent ramifications known as clinical features. The labs have facilities for haematological examination, biochemical profiling and biological assessment and has a computerized pulmonary function testing apart from visual and digital learning aids.

COMPUTER LAB:-

Computer and internet are fast emerging as an asset to the overall learning and developmental process in all sectors of health care modern p h y s i o t h e r a p y e d u c a t i o n acknowledge the importance of information technology by awarding it a special subject status in its curriculum. The computer lab of the Institute is air conditioned with a set up of a computers with 24 hour internet broadband facility with freedom of access to students as per their convenience. The software to be perused by those indulging in research and related activities.

Library

The Institute maintains an air conditioned library with a stock of approximately thousand with a stock of approximately thousand volumes of text and reference books and subscribes various Indian and International journals magazines and news papers. The Institute is fully wifi. It also has HS Libnet for e books & ejournals.

It gets updated from time to time with latest arrivals. The cod and noise free environment of the Library is accessible to the students from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Ex-students are also allowed to read the journals and books in the library.

Hostel

Being a part of the same big family, the c o l le g e p r o v i de s o n c a m p u s h o s t e l accommodation for girls in Dayanand Ayurvedic College Complex, Jalandhar which is 5 minutes of walking distance from the college and the boys having accommodation in DAV College, Jalandhar with a walking distance of 10 minutes from the college. In both locations 24 hours security and generator backup for uninterrupted power supply are provided so that the continuum of education persist even after the college hours.

At DAVIPTR we have comprehensive facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports, keeping in mind the varied interest of our students. However cricket being the hot favorite sport amongst the students, DAVIPTR has its own cricket team with winning instinct.

This not only stimulates intellectual performance but also gives scope for enjoyment and excitement of participation amongst students.

TRIPS

Bio-Annual college trips are conducted to scenic locates around Punjab which are held to give the necessary break required after the regular rigors of academics are helps the students to unwind just before the examinations over the past 3 years, out students have enjoyed the beauty of nature at Vaishno Devi, Jaipur, Kulu Manali, Manikaran, Jammu, Patnitop, Dehradun and Mussorie etc.

CORSE DURATION

Total duration of course is 4 ½ year that comprises of four years of academics and six month of compulsory internship, as per the ordinance and syllabus prescribed by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

ADMISSION CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY

Inter-se merit based on 10+2 marks obtained in subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and English and or as per Punjab Government notification from time to time.

To qualify for admission, candidate must have passed the senior school certificate examination of the central board of secondary education or intermediate pre-medical examination or an examination recognized as equivalent there of with physics, chemistry, biology and English provided the students has passed in each subject separately and must have obtained minimum of 50% marks obtained.

Course Objectives

The aim of the Bachelor in physiotherapy (BPT) programme at D.A.V.

Institute of physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Jalandhar (DAVIPTR) is to create

experts in the field of physiotherapy to promote and maintain the ability of

clients and patients of various ages to move and maintain their abilities to act.

The graduates shall be well equipped for working in an increasingly

international world The idea of multi-professional teamwork, as part of

rehabilitation process, is included in the curriculum.

The curriculum of the BPT programme consists of student of basis and

clinical medical sciences, rehabilitation research and development skills and

physiotherapy. The basis of the professional studies is the science of

physiotherapy focused on human movement and its relation to function. The

clinical placement are in Institute's OPD and affiliated specialty hospitals in

Jalandhar.

After the student has acquired the core knowledge and skills of

physiotherapy, he shall be able to work both in the private and the public

sector, in hospitals, rehabilitation center ,private clinics, and health centers and

sports organizations. The student will acquire the degree of Bachelor of

Physiotherapy from Baba farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot. The

course shall fulfill the following broad objectives:

1.1 The needs of society and the employment market

Central values of healthcare education are human dignity, health, justice,

equality, responsibility and freedom and right to growth and development. The

principles of lifelong learning and continuing education are central both in

health care and health care education.

Healthcare education must respond to the demands of health care, health

promotion and rehabilitation and the education must also anticipate future

needs. Health promotion is of the hour in India. It is based on the need in

society to promote the health of the whole population; children , adolescents,

adults of working age and elderly people. Physiotherapy practice emphasizes

the support of functional abilities and capacity in clients. The number of elderly

people and people with disabilities is increasing and physiotherapy education

has to provide future practitioners with suitable skills for working with elderly

people.

Intense merit of qualifying examination i.e. Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT) as per Punjab Government notification from time to time.

To qualify for admission, candidate shall have to apply to the concerned institute. Seats shall be filled purely on merit through institution level admission committee in an open and transparent manner on the basis of marks obtained by the candidate in BPT examination in aggregate of all years.

The choice of course shall be exercised by the candidate at the time of counseling/interview. Candidate opted for one course cannot change the speciality in the subsequent counseling in the same Institute.

Master In Physiotherapy

The training of post graduates for MPT degree shall be on full time pattern with graded responsibilities in the management and treatment of patients in management and treatment of patients entrusted to his/her care. Training should include involvement in laboratory, experimental work and research study. The participation of the students in all facts of educational process is essential.

Every candidate should take part in seminars, group discussion, clinical rounds, case demonstration, Clinics, journals review meeting and other continuing physiotherapy education activities. Every candidate shall be required to participate in teaching and training of under graduate students.

A candidate is required to attend a minimum of 75% of clinical training and of the total classes conducted during each academic year of the MPT Course.

Minimum requirements for each candidate:-

1. Journal Review Meetings- Five in one year

2. Seminars- Five I first year and three in 2nd year

3. Clinical Presentation- 10 cases in each year

4. Special Clinic (Desirable)- 5 in each year

5. Interdepartmental Meeting-5 in two years

6. Community works, camps/ Field visits- 4 in two years

7. Clinical Rounds-250 hours in two years

8. Dissertation work- 200 hours in two years

9. Participation in conferences-2 in two years

10. Presentation of Papers (Desirable)- One in two years

11. Publication of Paper (Desirable)- One in two years

12. Teaching Activities- UG Teaching

13. Learning Activities- Self learning, use of computers and library

14. Any other-Specify (examples CPE, Workshops, Symphosium, Hands on)- One in two years.
