INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS General Policy
The Journal of Nuclear Cardiology publishes articles on original research, clinical observations, and reviews of nuclear cardiology subjects and related fields.
Articles are accepted for publication with the stipula- tion that they are submitted solely to the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology, and they are subject to editorial revision. The Journal will not consider for publication papers that have been published in other journals, even if in another language; papers being considered by another journal; or papers that are in press. If a paper by the same author(s) contains data previously published, in press, or under consideration by another journal, a reprint of that article or a copy of that manuscript should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, with an explanation by the author(s) of the overlap or duplication. Permission to reproduce material from the Journal must be obtained from the publisher. Authors will be consult- ed when possible regarding publication of their material.
All manuscripts must be accompanied by the follow- ing written statement, signed by all authors: “The under- signed authors transfer all copyright ownership of the manuscript entitled [title of article], including all tables and illustrations not borrowed from other sources, to the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology in the event the work is published. The undersigned authors warrant that the article is original, does not infringe upon any copy- right or other proprietary right of any third party, is not under consideration by another journal, and has not been previously published. The final manuscript has been read, and each author’s contribution has been approved by the appropriate author.”
Statements and opinions expressed in the articles and communications therein are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the Editor-in-Chief, publisher, or American Society of Nuclear Cardiology; the Editor, publisher, and Society disclaim any responsibility or lia- bility for such material. Neither the Editor-in-Chief, the

publisher, nor the Society guarantees, warrants, or en- dorses any product or service advertised in this publica- tion; neither do they guarantee any claim made by the manufacturer of such product or service.
Papers describing research involving human subjects should indicate that informed consent was obtained.
Return of Manuscripts
Manuscripts not accepted for publication will not be returned to the authors.
Conflict of Interest
The Journal requires all authors to acknowledge, on the title page of their manuscript, all funding sources that supported their work, as well as all institutional or corporate affiliations of the authors. Authors are also required to disclose to the Editor-in-Chief, in a covering letter at the time of submission of their manuscript, any commercial associations that might pose a conflict of interest. These include consultant arrangements, stock or other equity ownership, patent licensing arrangements, or payments for conducting or publicizing the study. The disclosure will be held in strict confidence during the review process and will not influence any editorial deci- sions. However, if the paper is accepted for publication, the Editor will determine how any conflict of interest should be disclosed.
Preparation of Manuscripts
All manuscripts and editorial correspondence should be submitted by first-class (not registered) mail to Dr. Barry L. Zaret, Editor-in-Chief, at the address given above. Submission of manuscripts in the correct format will expedite the review process and prevent unneces- sary delay in publication.
Format. Submit three copies (letter-quality computer printout or clean, sharp photocopy accepted), typewrit- ten on one side of white 8% x 11 inch (22 x 28 cm)

paper, sequentially numbered, double-spaced (including references, figure legends, and tables) with liberal mar- gins, and approximately 25 lines to a page.
Once a manuscript is accepted, the final version of the manuscript may be submitted on diskette along with three copies of the printout. The author accepts respon- sibility for the submitted diskette exactly matching the printout of the final version of the manuscript. Guide- lines for submission of accepted manuscript on diskette will be sent to the author by the editorial office.
Title Page. The title page should include authors’ names and academic degrees; departmental and institu- tional affiliations of each author; and sources of finan- cial assistance, if any. Listed authors should include only those individuals who have made a significant, creative contribution. Designate one author as the correspondent, and provide address, business and home telephone num- bers, fax number, and e-mail address, if available. Galley proofs will be sent to the corresponding author, as will an order form for reprints at a later date.
Abstract. Full-length papers for the Original Articles section or special sections of the Journal should include a summation of 200 words or less, to appear after the title page. Abstracts for papers to appear in the Original Articles section must be written in structured form with paragraphs labeled Background, Methods and Results, and Conclusions. Authors are encouraged to use the gen- eral outline described by the Ad Hoc Working Group for Critical Appraisal of the Medical Literature (AM Intern Med 1987;106:598-604).
laboratory Values. Laboratory values should be described in both the International System of Units (SI units) and in metric mass units. The SI units should be stated first and the metric units in parentheses immedi- ately thereafter. Conversion tables are available (see JAMA 1986;225:2329-39 or Ann Intern Med 1987; 106: 114-29).
References. Number references according to order of appearance in the text, following the format set forth in “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals” (Ann Intern Med 1997;126:36- 47), with journal abbreviations according to Cumulured Index Medicus. If the reference is to an abstract, letter, or editorial, place the appropriate term in brackets after the title.

Tables. Each table should be double-spaced on a separate sheet of paper. A concise title should be sup- plied for each. Tables should be self-explanatory and should supplement, not duplicate, the text. If a table or any data therein have been previously published, a foot- note must give full credit to the original source. Abbreviations used in a table must be spelled out in a footnote to that table.
Figure Legends. Each illustration must be provided with a legend. Type legends double-spaced on a separate sheet of paper. If an illustration has been previously pub- lished, the legend must give full credit to the original source. If letters, numbers, or symbols are used to iden- tify portions of a figure, these must be explained clearly in the legend to that figure.
Illustrations. Original drawings or graphs should be prepared in black India ink or typographic (press-apply) lettering. Typewritten or freehand lettering is unaccept- able. All lettering must be done professionally and should be in proportion to the drawing, graph, or photo- graph. Do not send original artwork, x-ray films, or ECG strips. Color illustrations can be accommodated at a cost to the author for color separation and printing. Final decisions concerning inclusion of color figures will be made by the Editor in conjunction with the authors.
Computer-generated black-and-white illustrations must be legible and clearly printed in jet-black ink on heavy coated paper with either a glossy or dull finish. Any patterns or shadings must be dark enough for repro- duction and must be distinguishable from each other. Lines, symbols, and letters should be both smooth and complete. Legends for illustrations should not appear on the prints. Original individual laser or plotter prints are to be submitted unmounted. Laser prints should be full size at 300 dots per inch or greater full-page resolution; multiple illustrations on a page cannot be accepted. Dot matrix prints and photographic halftones are not accept- able.
Computer-generated color illustrations are accept- able, but special arrangements must be made with the Editor. The colors used must be dark enough and of suf- ficient contrast for reproduction. With the exception of fluorescent colors, all colors can be reproduced in four- color illustrations. Preparation and submission of color prints should follow the preceding guidelines for black- and-white computer-generated illustrations.
Glossy print photographs, 3 x 4 inches (minimum) to 5 x 7 inches (maximum), with good black-and-white

contrast or color balance, are preferred. Because of the visual nature of the specialty, the authors are expected to supply prints of the highest quality. Consistency in size within the article is strongly preferred. Special instruc- tions regarding sizing should be clearly noted. Illustrations will not be returned.
Submit three sets of glossy prints, unmounted, num- bered, and marked lightly on the back with author name and with top designated. Color illustrations are accept- able but must be of high quality.
Permissions. Direct quotations, tables, or illustra- tions that have appeared in copyrighted material must be accompanied by written permission for their use from the copyright owner and original author along with com- plete information as to source.
Permission from the patient, or parent or guardian of a minor child, is required for publication of recognizable likenesses. Patient initials should not be used.
Abbreviations. Complex terms used frequently in the manuscript may be abbreviated. Abbreviated terms should be spelled out at first mention, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses.
Editorial Correspondence
Letters pertaining to articles published in the Journal or to related topics should include no more than 300 words and three references and should be prepared in the same style as other, manuscripts.
News Items
Announcements of scheduled meetings, symposia, or postgraduate courses of national interest may be sent for consideration to the Editor at least 5 months in advance of the meeting date. News items of general interest to nuclear cardiologists will also be considered.
Books for Review
Books and monographs, domestic and foreign, will be reviewed on the basis of their interest and value to subscribers. Books should be sent to Albert J. Sinusas, MD, Yale University School of Medicine, Journal of
Nuclear Cardiology, 135 College St., Suite 301, New Haven, CT 06510. Books will not be returned. Books received will be listed in the Book Reviews section, but only selected ones will be reviewed.
Reprints
Authors may order reprints of their articles directly from the publisher, who will send a schedule of prices. Single reprints may be obtained from the author.
