MEET THE WORLD ON OUR CAMPUS
WELCOME TO KLU
KLU is a private, independent university dedicated to teaching
and research in the fields of logistics, management, and eco-
nomics. The university is unique with regard to its cross-cul-
tural faculty with research credentials in logistics and related
business fields. KLU was one of the top-ranked universities
in the 2014 Handelsblatt research ranking of business admi-
nistration faculties in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and
we also achieved a top rating in the five criteria of the CHE
ranking 2014 of master students for business administration.
The university is located in Hamburg, Europe’s leading logis-
tics metropolis.
INTERNATIONAL OFFICE
Cross-cultural knowledge and experience are essential parts of
the globally-oriented degree programs at KLU.
The International Office is the contact point for everyone who
wants to find out about the KLU exchange programs or beco-
me an exchange student. Based on bilateral exchange agree-
ments, we have established a network of more than 50 partner
institutions all over the world.
KLU warmly welcomes exchange students for one or two se-
mesters.
COURSES
Incoming exchange students can choose among KLU’s excellent
courses, and will be part of the KLU student body during their se-
mester abroad. In addition to the lectures, the exchange students
can participate in the wide-ranging extracurricular program.

INTERCOMM
KLU's InterComm involves students and staff as well as Hamburg’s
citizens. InterComm stands for both Intercultural Communication
as well as Intercultural/International Community and consist of a
buddy program, a friend family program and intercultural trainings.
EU ERASMUS+ PROGRAM
Since 2013, KLU has been participating in the ERASMUS+ pro-
gram, the European Union flagship training and education pro-
gram. Our Erasmus Code is D HAMBURG19.
WELCOME MEETING
We will invite you to attend the KLU welcome meeting, where
you will receive a welcome package containing information on
KLU and Hamburg, the KLU student ID and key card, health in-
surance and much more. A campus tour will also be organized
for incoming students.
EXPECTED ARRIVAL DATE
At the latest: one day before the lecture period starts.
SCHEDULES
The preliminary schedules are usually available on our intranet
four weeks prior to the beginning of classes.
GRADING SCALE
The grading scale used at KLU ranges from 1.0 to 5.0. For ex-
ample, 1.0 and 1.3 are outstanding results, 4.0 is the lowest
passing grade.

PREREQUISITES AND LIMITED ACCESS TO COURSES
All courses are open to exchange students. In case their first
choices are full, all students, including the exchange students,
have to indicate an alternative course in the selection process.
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION
English
TOEFL (90 iBT), IELTS (6.5), EU-CEFR (C1) or equivalent
FITNESS FACILITIES
All students are encouraged to use the fitness facilities for a
fee of €15/month with a minimum term of three months.
WIFI
There is free WIFI access on the KLU campus.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TICKET (HVV TICKET)
KLU offers a public transportation ticket per semester at KLU
for a reduced price: only 50 Euro per semester (instead of
approx. 80 Euro per month).
MANDATORY COURSE REGISTRATION
Soon after having been nominated by your home university
electronically, you will receive an online link to complete your
registration as an exchange student.
Graduate exchange students are allowed to take a maximum
of 6 courses, each equivalent to 5 ECTS (European Credit
Transfer System) for a total of 30 ECTS per semester.
Undergraduate exchange students are allowed to take a ma-
ximum of 5 courses equivalent to 6 ECTS each (a total of 30
ECTS) per semester.
As a general rule, you should consider one ECTS to be equi-
valent to 30 hours of course work. Please consult your home
university to determine which courses can be credited to your
studies at home.
You must make your final choice of courses within the regis-
tration period.
Some courses are graded with “pass” or “fail” without any
further mark.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMThe Career & Professional Development Program consists of
different workshop modules. It is designed to help you find
the answers to vital questions that will position you to actively
pursue and manage your professional career goals. Exchange
students are welcome to participate in this KLU program.
MEET THE PROS @ KLU
The program coordinators organize guest lectures, workshops,
excursions and factory tours to business partners. Exchange
students are invited to join this part of the KLU program.

TUITION FEES AND FREE MOVERS
Tuition fees are waived for students with a signed reciprocal
KLU student exchange agreement who have been formally no-
minated by their home university. All other students, i.e. free
movers, are required to pay the tuition fees per KLU semester.
ACCOMMODATION
KLU Student Services offers support to find suitable accom-
modation for exchange students. We have a limited number
of student dorms in a public student housing available (only
during the fall semester, approx. € 350 per month).
LIVING COSTS
Students’ requirements may vary significantly, depen-
ding on their individual choice of housing, living, and
travel expenses. Estimated expenses for one person
per semester in Euro:
€ 350 health insurance (up to 30 years of age)
€ 500 health insurance (over 30 years of age)
€ 20 liability insurance (optional)
€ 2,000 housing/accommodation
€ 1,600 food, clothing, textbooks, misc.
