eduroam (education roaming) is operational on the UP Wireless network
eduroam enables researchers, lecturers, staff employed by- and students
registered at universities participating in eduroam secure Wi-Fi access to the
Internet.
End-users need to contact their own institution’s administrator and ask for an
account. The end-user (or their network administrator) will have to configure
their computer/device to enable eduroam access. It works on most of the
platforms including Windows, Linux, MAC OS, IOS and Android and it is free,
with high levels of security.
Basic setup instructions:
1. Activate the Wi-Fi on your mobile device
2. Browse the available wireless networks
3. Select “eduroam”
4. Enter your Username and Password as used at your home university
5. The format for UP students and staff:
[email protected] (u+ 8digit ID) & Portal password
6. Click “Connect”

Computer Training
Training is about improving knowledge and skills in an individual or group. The objective of
ITS Training is to provide high quality computer training in the use of the standard software
supported by the ITS department.
ITS Training provides one-on-one and group training in a variety of computer applications
including e-mail, word processing, desktop publishing, data analysis, and spreadsheet and
database management. We provide opportunities to acquire information technology skills and
knowledge in the following computer applications, Introduction to Computers, Computer
Orientation for newly appointed staff, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word (basic and
advanced), Microsoft Excel (basic and advanced), Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access
(basic and intermediate), Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Visio Basic, Microsoft Project Basic,
GroupWise Mail and Calendar, Internet Explorer, Adobe Acrobat Pro, InfoEd RIMS, AV
Technology in an Educational Environment, How to use your Apple IPad, Skype, Collaboration
Spaces, create and update information on the UP Staff Intranet (microsite) and using the
different University systems (UP Portal, Official Leave System, Performance Management and
IT Service Catalogue).
Instructor-led computer training courses are available to faculty and support staff. The courses
are held in the ITS Training Lab (NW II Building, Room 5.8) on campus and consist of classes
and workshops. The classes are hands-on sessions with a small group of people (12) working
on PCs. The courses require registration.
The schedule is available at the end of November for the first semester of the following year,
and May for the second semester, and is sent to all Heads of Departments. The schedule is
also accessible through the ITS Web page and IT Service Catalogue. The course dates, course
descriptions and course prerequisites are available on the Training Web page:

Click in the WebCenter Username box and enter your username (Emplid) (e.g.

Click in the WebCenter Password box and enter your password.
Click on the Login button.
Click on My Spaces and then click on IT Services.
Click on ITS Training.
Upon request, ITS Training also offers customised courses in response to specific training
needs of a department. We try to offer topics and course content, based on your demands and
interests, so you are encouraged to offer suggestions to the Training Co-ordinator (012) 420-
3633.
In addition to computer training courses, ITS Training offer help with specific queries at various
troubleshooting workshops.

IT Service Catalogue
The Department of Information Technology Services is launching the IT Service
Catalogue. This comprehensive interactive catalogue will help IT users to order any of
the IT services they require, online.
Open Microsoft Internet Explorer and enter the following URL to access ITS Service
Catalogue: https://upnet.up.ac.za/SRC/
You can also activate the Service Catalogue from the UP Staff Systems Portal. Under ITS
Service Catalogue, click on the Service catalogue hyperlink.
Enter your Email ID in the Login box.
Enter your Email Password in the Password box.
Click on the Login button.
Click in the Search box on the right-hand side of the screen and search a service.
You can also click on the Services button at the top and then click on Browse Catalogue.
A list of all the available services will be displayed.

Computer Training Information
NB: All ITS Computer courses are free to University of Pretoria staff. If a staff member
registered for a course and they do not cancel or do not attend the course the
applicable department/service will pay the full course fee as indicated in the
schedule.
General Information
ITS Training reserves the right to cancel individual courses.
Training is offered to all UP staff members, faculties and administration.
Registrations are limited to 12 members per course.
Register on the PeopleSoft HR, Self-Service system. Once you register online and the
registration is submitted, you will receive an e-mail to indicate that the course registration
is approved.
Registration for courses closes one working day before the course commences.
Courses will be presented in the language indicated in the Language column of the
Course Schedule.
Cellular phones must be switched off during training hours. If permission has been granted
beforehand, a course member will be allowed (in exceptional circumstances) to leave
his/her cell phone on during training.
A minimum of 5 registrations is required for a course to be presented.
Training starts promptly on the specified time. Please note that late comers will not be
accommodated.
A certificate of attendance of the University of Pretoria is awarded upon the completion of
the course.
Course Fees
All ITS Computer Training courses are free.
If a course member fails to attend a course or cancels attendance of a course, the
applicable department will pay the course fees as indicated in the course schedule.
Course attendance includes course material.
Manuals and course material given to course members attending courses are subject to
copyright laws and as such may under no circumstances be copied or distributed.
Venues
All courses at Main Campus are presented in the NW II Building, Room 5.8.
All courses at Onderstepoort are presented in the Arnold Theiler Building, Level 5.

Cancellations
There is an extensive waiting list for most of the scheduled computer courses.
Staff members are requested to regard attendance to booked computer courses as
important, AND, if necessary, to cancel early in order to enable someone else to
attend the course.
Cancellations and requests to reschedule MUST be made TWO (2) WORKING DAYS
PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF THE COURSE or the department will be required to pay
the full course fee.
All course cancellations must be done online on the PeopleSoft, HR Self Service
screen.
Course Prerequisites
Some of the courses appearing in the schedule require prerequisite skills or courses.
Please consult the course outlines for all prerequisites.
Please make sure that you meet the prerequisites for the courses that you are
registering for.
ITS Training cannot be held responsible for anyone registering for a course for
which they lack the required prerequisite skills.
In such a case, the full course fee will be charged to the department unless the
course is cancelled prior to the cancellation deadline.

Steps to register online (UP Portal in PeopleSoft) for an In-house IT Course
Please register (in-house programmes) through the UP Portal in PeopleSoft as follows:
Log in to the UP portal (www.up.ac.za). (If you experience problems with the login, please
contact the IT Help desk at Tel: 012 420-3051 Email: [email protected]).
The UP Staff Intranet News page will appear. Click on the Staff Systems Portlet button.
Scroll to the Human Capital Management (HCM) System Portlet and click on Human
Resources Self Service.
The new login screen will appear. Enter your portal password and click on Sign In.
The following screen will appear:
Click on the Employees WorkCentre link.
Click on the Perform/Develop tab on the panel on the left hand side of the screen.
The following screen will appear:

Note: It is not necessary to enter a development need for any In House – free)
courses. You can continue to the Development Request option.
Development Request
On the left-hand side of the screen click on Development Request.
The Development Request screen will appear:
Register for a course Free of Charge – approved by your Line Manager and listed in the IDP and the 2014 ITS Training program
You do not have to enter a Development Need to register for any In-House (free of charge
courses)
Click on the drop down arrow of Learning Strategy and click on In-house (free of charge)
or In-house IT (free of charge) to register for courses where no money is charged.
The Request Training Enrolment screen will appear:
Click on Search by Course Name, type a name of course i.e. clickUP (or leave it blank)
and click on the Search button.
A list of all the selected (or all) courses will be displayed.

Click on View Available Sessions next to the course that you would like to attend.
Select the session that you would like to attend by clicking on the Session number.
On the Request Training Enrolment – Session Detail screen, read the applicable
information and click on the Continue button.
Complete the comments field if necessary and click on Submit – all your personal details
will be captured automatically.
Your line manager will receive an email: Application for development need awaiting
approval.

UP Priority Courses
Priority training programmes are learning programmes presented at the University of Pretoria
for the different categories of staff members at the University. These priority training
programmes represent the core of the University's strategic development initiatives. Staff in
each occupational category should either attend the priority programmes associated with their
category or be able to demonstrate that they have the relevant knowledge and skills.
Staff in a particular occupational category may in the interest of their self-development, attend
priority programmes prescribed for other occupational categories. Attendance of priority
programmes is free of charge for UP staff members. All costs incurred will be paid by the
Department of Human Resources, Learning and Development. The process of approval and
registration is managed by the Performance Management System.

The process of approval and registration is managed via Human Capital Management
System (HCM) Human Resources Self Service Enter Portal Password Employees
WorkCentre Perform/Develop tab. Add a new Development need relevant to the training
requested if it does not exist. Click on Development Request. Select the appropriate Learning
strategy for example select In-house IT. The Request Training Enrolment screen will appear.
