New Projects in ITS New hardware was recently installed in the Network Operations Center (NOC) that

houses the Ellucian Colleague (Student System) software (formerly known as Datatel).

This new hardware has double the CPU Core & Speed and double the memory (RAM).

Along with an upgraded internet connection speed from 4GB to 10GB, these

improvements will accommodate faster online registration traffic and allow files to be

located faster on the solid state drive providing faster access.

In addition, Florante Roa, Director of Systems Management & MIS, along with his team

worked in collaboration with Admissions & Records to add a new screen in

WebAdvisor called “My Registration Info.” With A&R’s leadership and

funding, students can now see all their HOLDs and Priority Registration Dates online

via WebAdvisor. No more calling to inquire or confirm – just login to WebAdvisor and

view “MyReg Info.”

Florante’s MIS team has assisted with programming for Counseling projects such as:

eSARS/SARS – Better appointment/Counseling Program (Amanda Phillips)

New Online Orientation Program (Amanda Phillips)

Latest Self-Service SEP Program available (Amanda Phillips)

Launch of the SmarThinking from PEARSON (Summer ‘15) (Online Live Tutorial)

fiber-optic backbone.

Over 750 VoIP telephones and over 850 voicemail boxes.

Over 100 Wireless Access Points.

All audio visual and media equipment in the District.

Infrastructure connections in off-campus centers such as Indio & Mecca/Thermal campus and network connections and telecommunications support

to PaCE at Westfield Mall.

Helpdesk which averages over 2500 closed tickets per year, averaging fewer

than 40 open tickets.

Tips & Tricks Keyboard Shortcuts: We are

often frustrated with repetitive

hand movements, going from key-

board to mouse and back to the

keyboard again. See the “Outlook

Power Shortcuts” on the last page

of this publication Many of the

shortcuts can be used in other

programs including Internet brows-

er. Give them a try and see how it

increases your productivity and

reduces those nagging repetitive

movements. In future editions, a

focus on shortcuts specific to other

programs will be included.

Did You Know? Self-help for Microsoft Office soft-

ware is located in the top right-

hand corner of the program win-

dow. Just click on the “?” icon and

type your question in the “Search”

box.

Security & Email Despite our best efforts to remove spam, junk, and phishing emails via our

software filters, there are some that get through to your email account. Some

of these phishing emails, look very legitimate and may even appear to be sent

from our ITS department.

However, please remember that Information Technology Services (or any rep-

utable company) will NEVER send you an unsolicited email that asks for your

password or asks that you click on a link and provide your password or per-

sonal information. When these types of emails are received, please do not

open them; delete them and then empty your deleted/trash folder. If you ever

have any question about an email, please do NOT open the email. Call the ITS

Help Desk at ext. 1300. If you do happen to open the email or click on the link

and do provide your password, please change your password for your College

of the Desert account immediately. Call the ITS Help Desk if you need assis-

tance with this process.
