Infrastructure Services
Tata Steel Projects - Civil Engineering is at the heart of all that we doOur infrastructure team of civil engineers work collaboratively with our clients to develop, design and construct a wide range of projects in a variety of sectors including Rail and Energy and Power.
Our engineers are involved in some of the largest infrastructure redevelopment work in the country. We have a strong track record in the delivery of targeted and focused solutions.
Railway InfrastructureWe have a dedicated rail team who have experience of all stages of the GRIP process. The team provide civils support on the majority of our rail projects including permanent way, electrification & plant, resignalling, platform extensions and level crossings. We offer the following design services:
• Lineside structures and retaining walls
• Drainage works - track, platform, building, road drainage including SUDS solutions
• Earthworks and formation• Cable route review and design• Foundations for REB Buildings,
Signals, portal and cantilever signal gantries, location cases and modular staging and driver walkways
• High Mast Lighting for junctions and sidings
• Relay Room buildings, foundations, access roads and fencing
• Refurbishment of existing buildings
• Level crossings including barrier, CCTV, signal and lighting bases Under Track and Under Road crossings (UTX and URX)
Stations/DepotsWe have designed major improvements to some of Network Rail’s major stations, including; Kings Cross, Reading and Peterborough stations. Such major projects are undertaken as a multi-disciplinary team.
At Tata Steel projects, we have a proven track record of station and depot design, built up from the acquired knowledge and experience gained from a workforce emanating from the British Rail Regional Civil Engineers Office.
Our infrastructure team has provided the design for a number of major elements of the Thameslink programme, including; Bedford Depot, Peterborough Depot and Cricklewood Depot. Design works for the depots have incorporated:
• Carriage Washer Machine (CWM)• Controlled Emission Toilet (CET)
facilities• Drainage and building foundations
We have a proven track record undertaking the main discipline role within multi disciplinary projects. Furthermore, we have developed our 3D design capability to become one of the most advanced 3D designers within the UK Railway Sector.
Heavy CivilsOur civils team work closely with the project team and contractors from fee bid stage through to final commissioning to provide buildable designs. The team have expertise in working with clients to provide value engineered designs gained from working on all of the substructures on our portfolio of Energy From Waste (EfW) projects, the most recent being Ardley and Leeds EfW. Design services include:
• 3D modelling• Finite element analysis• Deep concrete bunkers (up to 12 m
deep) and above ground concrete structures (+20m)
• Large foundations eg turbine foundations
• Complex RC slabs incorporating trenching and process requirements
• Ancillary buildings
Highways and DrainageOur team have built up considerable experience on major industrial plants including Highways & Drainage design for our EfW projects. We provide the following services:
• MX design• Vehicle tracking and site road
layouts• Temporary water management• Microdrainage design including
attenuation and storage• Design to adoptable standards • Connections to Local Authority
roads• Specialist highway design for
highway approaches to level crossings
• Civil 3D design• Sustainable Drainage Systems
(SuDS)• Earthworks cut & fill• Signing & Lining to TSRGD
Design and BuildOur team have gained considerable experience working in a collaborative relationship with contractors in both the rail and energy & power sectors.Our approach has been to engage with our client at an early stage to develop buildable designs. This adds value to our offering with both cost and programme savings. Our modular structuresare a long established and trustedtechnique for the construction of newrailway platforms, platform extensions,platform widening, walkways and rampswith the emphasis on delivering projectsin the most challenging of environments. • Modular platforms - alterations, renewals, new and extensions
• Modular platform canopies and station roofs
