TheBigPicture• Our veterans most often return home to find themselves on the front lines of a major, national healthcare crisis.
• More than 900,000 veterans are currently waiting on benefits, with an average national waiting period of more than 245 days.
• The number of veterans waiting more than one year for benefits leapt from 11,000 in 2009 to 245,000 in 2011.
• This increase represents a 2,000% increase for those low‐income and disabled veterans waiting too long for benefits.

Morethan85,000localveteransneedhelp.• The 2011 Census estimates more than 85,000 local, low‐income and disabled veterans, but the Atlanta regional VHA office processed only 33,000 claims during the same year.
• Generations Life can bridge a tremendous gap in services for tens of thousands of these veterans that need timely in‐home care.
• We are the only in‐home, nonprofit healthcare provider in the Atlanta area devoted to low‐income and disabled veterans.
• We are also experienced patient advocates, with a significant network of partners, also seeking to improve the benefits system.
Morethan85,000localveteransneedhelp.• The target population of low‐income and disabled veterans has grown at an average annual five‐year growth rate of 91.5% to more than 80,000 veterans.
• The number of claims processed by the VHA Atlanta Regional Claims Center has grown at an average annual growth rate of 7.5% to about 33,000 claims during the same time period.
• There is a huge and widening gap in services, leaving tens of thousands of these veterans with access to the medical and mental healthcare earned by their valor.
