Our Mission - WE, the people of Our Lady of Consolation Parish guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Eucharist, pledge to continue the mission of Jesus Christ who announced the reign of God. We accept His challenge to proclaim the Good News of salvation that Jesus, the Christ, died for us, and in Him we have life to the fullest measure. We seek to live as He lived, in service to others, building a community of faith and hope, with God’s grace as our strength and the peace of Christ our heart’s desire. A Parishioner is - one who is registered and participates in the liturgical life of the parish and demonstrates their support, as reflected in the Parish Mission Statement, by completing and fulfilling an annual Stewardship Commitment of Time, Talent and Treasure. A Message of Hope Dear Parishioners, In just two weeks, CCD classes will begin once again. As you are aware, last year like everyone, we met virtually. This year, we are so excited to be back meeting in-person, even if that will look and feel a little different. We are once again faced with challenges of beginning something new, albeit challenges we have grown accustomed to over the past year and a half. We will take every precaution to have a safe return working together with parents, Catechists and students. Ironically, this week’s Gospel speaks about hand washing! How many times in the past year and a half have parents said to their children (myself included), “did you wash your hands”?! I chuckled when I read that. But we want them to be clean from germs, right? Back in Jesus’ times, it was a Jewish tradition to be purified. So, the Pharisees and Scribes ask Jesus, why His disciples are not washing their hands before they eat? Now it sounds like they are asking this of Jesus as they consider Him to be the disciples’ leader or teacher and He should know better. But Jesus steers the conversation in another direction and says, “This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” In essence, we are made unholy not by what goes in or how clean our hands are before we eat it, but by what comes out of our heart. The problem is not with the human traditions, but when human traditions supersede the word of God. Then Jesus gives a laundry list of things; theft, murder, greed, malice, etc… those are evils that can emanate from the heart, if you let them. But we are in control of what comes from within. Perhaps we need to reflect more on what proceeds from the heart and less on our desire for self-satisfaction. A Message of Hope Dear Parishioners,

In just two weeks, CCD classes will begin once again.

Perhaps we need to reflect more on what proceeds from the heart and less on our desire for self-satisfaction.

CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS

Do you have a special occasion that you would like to share with your OLC family? Since not everyone is gathering for Mass each week, we have lost that outlet for sharing information with our fellow parishioners.

Since we do not want those in our OLC family who are not currently attending church to lose touch with other parishioners, Father Michael has been making announcements regarding our parishioners during his Sunday Mass livestreams.

If you have something you would like to share (such as an anniversary, birthday, graduation or any other milestone or event in your life) please contact Victoria Trentacost at 973-839-3444 Ext. 118. We hope to be able to accommodate everyone’s requests.

Your good news could be just the thing to boost

someone else’s spirits during these troubled times.
