Initial Ideas

For my music magazine

Page 2: Initial ideas

Brief My main task is to create a music magazine which will revolve

around a genre of my choice. It will need to appeal to a specific targeted audience. My magazine will need to be current and relevant and will need to include conventions and features of other magazines of a similar genre or type.

Initial ideas

I am going to use the genres Pop and RnB to base my music magazine on. I chose this genre because I enjoy this type of music therefore have knowledge and interest on the artists that fall under these categories. Also, I believe there is a gap in the market for a new and current female magazine featuring Pop and RnB, and the audience, which I will be able to relate to, will be wide. I will name my magazine RpopB (RnB, and pop combined.) My target audience will be teenage girls aged around 12-16. I will revolve the theme and articles around female Pop and RnB artists and will feature photos of my models portraying these artists throughout my magazine, from my front cover, to my double page spread. I will use photos of popular female artists who are current and relevant to today's music industry, to influence the photos I will take myself and then use.

I am going to use the following photographs of Nicki Minaj to influence the photos I will take myself to display on my front cover of my music magazine. I believe the use of paint is unique and creative, and will therefore stand out from other Pop/RnB magazines on the shelf. Her positioning and body language is confident and strong which may inspire my target audience of teenagers. I will use a clear background, like the one in the photos below, so that the main focus is on my model and the outfit she is wearing rather than the surroundings. I will use the colour pink, like the photo below, as it is a girly and flirtatious colour which links to the theme of my magazine.

Front Cover Initial Ideas

Shows creativity and colour which will make it different to other magazines in the market.

The body positioning of Nicki Minaj is confident and quirky which are main characteristics of the influential artist, characteristics that my target audience of female teenagers will idolise.

Contents Page Initial Ideas

For my contents page I will stick with the theme of pink and female RnB/Pop artists. I will use two different model to portray RnB and pop singer Cher Lloyd and pop artist Katy Perry, who are current and fit into the genre of Pop. I have also chosen to use these two artists as my target audience will be able to relate to them aswell as idolise them therefore photos and articles of and on Cher Lloyd/Katy Perry will appeal to them. I will use the photo below on the left to influence how I will style my model for Cher Lloyd, and will use the photo of Katy Perry below to influence my models makeup and hair.

My double page spread – Initial Ideas

I will name my double page spread “Tours of the week.” I will use Beyonce’s 2009 “I am..” tour and Rihanna’s 2011 “LOUD” tour as tours of the week as I have photographs of both from attending both concerts in Manchester. I will include the songs that they sung and the choreography they performed. I have chose these two artists to centre my double page spread on because they are both going to appeal to my targeted audience, I believe this because they fit into my genre’s of pop and rnb, and are glamorous and successful, and started their careers the same age as my targeted audience.
