Initiation The Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴) promotes personal and spiritual development, as well as the energetic evolution of the subtle bodies, through the practice of the Healing Powers of L.V.X. InitiationThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H O N A∴ ∴ ∴ ∴) promotes personal and spiritual development, as well as the energetic evolution of the subtle bodies, through the practice of the Healing Powers of L.V.X. (Lux is the Latin word for “Light” and is indicative of the life-force or spirit.) The ultimate goal of this development and evolution, within the context of what has come to be known as The Great Work, is to transcend the ordinary human level of consciousness and material existence in order to achieve a Solar Consciousness and a state of being in a Solar Body of Light – to become more than human through a personal process of transmutation that leads from “lead” to “gold” and which can be likened to a Nascent Aurora.

Alkemical Aurora

The Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora provides for this process through an esoteric transmission of a well proven and systematic program of ritual initiation and spiritual exercise under the close supervision of an experienced tutor. A structured and systematic curriculum is presented in the context of the teaching of our Mother Temple and any of her Sister Temples of various related esoteric or occult subjects and practical applications. These include:

This teaching is administered by the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora by the auspices of our Mother Temple and of her Sister Temples, which as it were constitutes the “academy” or “university” of the Outer Order; a completed course in the Temple throughout the entire Outer Order corresponds to an academic degree in esoteric theory and practice. Depending on where the candidate is resident, two different forms of membership and corresponding teaching of the Mother or Sister Temple is offered to him, either active and traditional local membership or correspondence membership and distant tuition.

Local membershipInitiates who have the privilege to be residents within a radius of 100 km from the place where the Mother Temple or any of her Sister Temples are situated are expected to be active members of this Temple by traditional means. This ensures an optimal training and traditional teaching, which partly takes place in document form submitted in connection with the initiations and partly in the form of lectures and instruction held in opened Temple, but also through private instruction in oral form. Any examination prior to advancement to a higher

grade includes both a practical and theoretical part, performed traditionally in front of an examiner. As an active local member the initiate is expected to participate in all group work in the Temple and be available in this capacity as an officiating officer. Thus, a large commitment from the initiate is expected which may include attendance in monthly assemblies.

Correspondence membershipFor those who are resident further away (more than 100 km) from the Mother Temple or any of her Sister Temples, it may be extremely demanding to participate in mandatory monthly Temple assemblies. Therefore long-distance members are offered a correspondence membership of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora utilising email based studies and training under the guidance of our Adepts, with the possibility of being initiated and advanced through grades by the auspices of our Mother Temple or any of her Sister Temples.

Initiation into the Nascent Aurora

The major difference between a correspondence membership and a traditional active and local membership of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora is that the initiate is exempt from some of the obligations that normally follow from a traditional Temple Membership, with the exception of a mandatory participation in the following Temple activities:

The first admission or initiation into the grade of Neophyte of the initiate All following ceremonies of advancement (to the grades of Zelator, Theoricus,

Practicus, etc.) Regular participation in Temple assemblies on an average of a quarterly attendance,

including the Vernal and Autumnal Equinoxes, examinations, etc.

Thus, it is fair to describe a distance membership as a semi-active membership in our Mother Temple or any of her Sister Temples. As a correspondence member the initiate also has the opportunity to visit the Temple at any assemblies which he is entitled to participate in according to his own Grade, provided that the initiate has attended the previous equinox assembly (which authorizes the member with the current password necessary to gain access to the Temple). Thus, the distant member has the opportunity to be fully active in the operations of the Temple, based on the corresponding grade (which we recommend).

Page 4: Initiation - Aurora Nascente in Hyperborea€¦  · Web viewThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴)

Participation in his initiation, advancements, and the vernal and autumnal equinoxes, qualifies the initiate to receive his lessons of the correlating correspondence course. Note that if the student fails to attend any of the equinox ceremonies at the Mother Temple or at any of her Sister Temples, he as a consequence will not be able to receive any more lessons until he has participated in the nearest following equinox; possession of the periodic password empowers the student to partake of his grade lessons without interruption.

However, the most common communication that the distant member has with the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora is by email correspondence with his tutor, who oversees the correspondence member in his studies and practice so that the teachings of classical Ceremonial Magic and traditional Alchemy correspond to the standards otherwise traditionally transmitted to local members. The relatively high frequency of mandatory attendance ensures that the teachings are transmitted as accurately and traditional as it is possible, by example and with the ability to correct errors in the performance of spiritual techniques.

Initiation and teachingAs a correspondence member of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora the initiate will be able to take full advantage of all the traditional teaching and training through correspondence courses that are transmitted as downloadable lessons with instruction and lectures in English formatted into PDF format. We also offer equivalent correspondence courses in Swedish for Nordic residents.

These correspondence courses are structured into different levels, what we in our tradition refer to as “grades”. The initiate will only have access to materials which he is entitled to according to his own grade, which is issued by his tutor in monthly lessons. This grade related curriculum aims at assisting the initiate in becoming eligible for grade advancement.

Pray, read, reread, work, and you shall discover!

Within the framework of the traditional teaching and active local membership in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora the initiate is not offered any correspondence courses. Instead the initiate receives that same information collected into various compendiums that are divided according to the various sections of study, privately printed and bound. This form of teaching, as it is conducted in a traditional way, is quite similar to what was current at the turn of the former century with the difference that the curriculum is much more expanded and

much better edited today, as well as the practical work being much more demanding for the initiate.

Qualification and probationAs a initiate of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora, regardless of whether he is studying locally or at a distance, the member will gain access to his grade materials or courses only after he has passed his corresponding grade initiation and advancement. In order to be qualified for advancement the initiate has to undergo an examination of a type both theoretical and practical. This examination is performed present at our Mother Temple or at any of her Sister Temples and is a prerequisite for being eligible to pass through the ceremony of advancement. The practical examination is performed in open Temple and carried out separately at a different time than the actual ceremony of advancement. Typically, there is relatively short space of time between participation in the examinations and the subsequent advancement, optimally a interval of about one to two months.

Before the formal admission to that of a Neophyte the student will also undergo a probation and thus have access to a curriculum of a preparatory nature – for the correspondence member in the form of a introductory correspondence course which includes theoretical studies and practical instructions – and only after his traditional admittance as a Neophyte he will take part of the Neophyte’s curriculum or correspondence course as an initiated member.

Knock and it may be opened unto you

Candidates who are resident within a 100-km radius from the Mother Temple or from any of her Sister Temples will be assigned a sponsor that they will keep regular communication with during their probationary period, at regular meetings. This sponsor provides guidance and oversees their work and attitudes (dedication) toward it. Correspondence members are similarly assigned a tutor who through monthly email correspondence takes a similar role.

Page 6: Initiation - Aurora Nascente in Hyperborea€¦  · Web viewThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴)

However, even if a member is resident further than 100 km from the Mother or Sister Temple, he will have to meet his tutor at the location of the place where the Temple is situated at least during two occations during his probation.

Thus, as a probationary member the student must wait for his first initiation until a time when the student, after due consideration together with his personal sponsor or tutor, feels that he is adequately prepared and has the opportunity to take this important step, after which a date and place will be determined for the nearest opportunity.

TuitionTo attempt to learn the magical crafts and the occult arts on one’s own can be a quite confusing and frustrating experience. As an active local member of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora the relationship with the initiator (the Hierophant of the Temple) is of significant importance in the initiatory process. In addition to the admission ceremonies and participation in Temple assemblies, the Hierophant tutors the initiate through regular individual meetings where the initiator oversees the development process and provides individual oral teaching that complements the formal curriculum, alternatively modifying it according to the individual needs and temperament of the student.

In the same manner, the correspondence member of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora is assigned a personal tutor as soon as he gets admitted as a probationary member, who will accompany him also after the first initiation. The tutor issues monthly lessons, oversees the theurgical and alchemical studies and work of the correspondence member through email correspondence, as well as responding to any of his questions and provides the necessary support.

To follow in the foot steps of nature

When the initiate has mastered the study material in any grade, he may at his own request take an practical and theoretical examination, which will make him eligible for advancement. For correspondence members, this is done only after the completion of a correspondence course for any grade and with the approval of the personal tutor that he has assimilated the curriculum in order to become eligible for grade advancement. Regardless of whether the initiate is an active and a local member or a correspondence member the written examination is administered in a traditional manner in the presence of an examiner and the practical test in a opened Temple in front of all the members present; no distinction is made here between local members and correspondence members. However, as a rule the theoretical and practical examination is taken during the same day for correspondence members, which isn’t necessary the case for local members.

Each time the initiate has fulfilled the requirements for the next grade, and has passed his examinations, he will become eligible for initiation and further grade advancement in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora. Following the initialion or grade advancement of the initiate, he will receive more challenging and advanced magical and alchemical grade materials in the subsequent curriculum or correspondence course.

CostsThe Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora is a non-profit organization and therefore it has no interest in collecting expensive fees for its services. All officers and tutors are doing volunteer work and the only reward which gratifies them is to witness their students and the initiates develop spiritually towards an increasing emancipation and integration; toward their restoration to an original and archetypal Solar or “angelic” state of being. Any fees collected from members are solely intended to cover current expenses for the operation of the Mother Temple or any of her Sister Temples, and the administration of the teachings. However, all of the costs are not covered by the membership fees and it is only thanks to the generous benifacture and personal commitment of certain Adepts that the Temple has a functioning economy.

Alchemical Gold

The total cost of a new probationary membership amounts to 777 SEK (Swedish Kronor), which covers the annual fee to the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora. This annual fee is payable through a bank transfer. A payment request with the attached bank account will only be sent out to the candidate after due correspondence with the Order Cancellarius.

Page 8: Initiation - Aurora Nascente in Hyperborea€¦  · Web viewThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴)

To the annual membership fee of 777 SEK a due of 500 SEK is added for the admission to the grade of Neophyte as well as advancement dues in a progressing tariff which is only payable to the Mother or Sister Temple in connection with the first initiation and subsequent grade advancement in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora. This cost also includes the curriculum attached to the attained Grade. Participation in the celebration of Spring or Autumn Equinoxes in the Mother Temple or any of her Sister Temples will also require a fee of 200 SEK from the initiate, payable directly to the Temple.

A time for reflectionIt is said that “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” It is tempting as a reader to interpret all of the information above as a revelation. But in this age of abundance of information, not the least through the Internet, it can be confusing for the prospektive student. Internet is teeming with fairly frivolous websites that promises an almost instant Adeptship. How shall the student be able to choose the correct option in the midst of all this throng of esoteric schools?

Diversity is something good, for there doesn not exist one single path which will suit all individuals, especially when it comes to spiritual development. But one negative aspect of all of this competition, which in the recent decades has appeared between organisations, is that students of today are being served considerably more pre-packaged products compared to in the past. Therefore, post-modern students expect from such organisations that much should be done for them, because today it is their market. The situation today is rather the reverse of the above-quoted adage: “When the Temple is ready (i.e. competitive), the student reveals himself.”

However, this is not the case with traditional esoteric schools such as the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora. We instead ask the candidate what he might be willing to do for the Temple; what qualities does the student possess that may be beneficient for the rest of the Temple collective? Membership in a traditional Hermetic Temple is indeed a give and take. The teachers of the Temple invest 110% on their students, but on the other hand the Adepts expect the initiates to invest 110% of their time in the Temple and in their membership, in return. Although our membership fees are relatively low it still “cost” the inititate a lot to be a member in one of our Temples. On the other hand, the Temple invests a lot in the initiate in return.

However, relatively little will be prepared for the student; the amount of gain from membership depends on how much the initiate invests in his membership. We do not promise a guaranteed Adeptship within one or two years; in our Temples it takes seven years or even more to deserve this honorable title, it in the best case scenario. Although we do admit with some pride that our curriculum is excellent and reasonably comprehensive, and that our correspondence courses are of the highest quality and fully adequate to be able to offer distant members a formula of genuine personal development that could lead them to a future Adeptship worthy of the name, all of this always requires that the aspirant invests a significant portion of his life to the material and above all to the practical application with follows with these instructions. And this work will not commence following the admission to that of a Neophyte, but already during the preparatory probation period as a candidate for this first initiation.

That which bars and threatens, and demands fresh sacrifice

If the reader is not prepared to take these words seriously and do their best to live up to the expectations of the Temple put upon a initiate, he should not even consider applying for initiation. Unlike many other schools we do not recommend the reader to seek membership in any of our Temples. On the contrary, we discourage the reader to do so. The path of the initiate is not the path of the majority. Initiation is not even suited for the minority. Only a few individuals of the population possess the necessary qualities to be able to gain fully from a genuine initiatory process all the way through. The majority of those who do not belong to the ranks of a few men and women of a special quality fails to complete the probationary period and the remaining few that do get past the initial screening process do not manage to get very far in the grade system of the Outer Order; only a few initiates reach adeptship. A close to two decades of continuous Temple operation have taught us the truth in this statement.

For this reason, we ask the reader – before any final decision has been made to contact the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora regarding membership – to consider what an important step he is about to take in his life. Membership in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora cannot be compared to a membership in any other association or society that the reader has previousoy has been a member of. Whether the reader, as a consequence of the geographical location, would be considered for a traditional active and local membership of the Mother Temple or of any of its Sister Temples, or if he would study at a distance, much will be demanded from the prospective member for him to be able to progress in the structural grade system of initiations and advancements, and the theoretical studies and (above all) the practical applications and exercises he is expected to perform as part of his membership.

First and foremost, the candidate must be willing to travel to his initiating Temple in an average of four times per year. In addition, in order to advance himself to a higher Grade the initiate is expected to have regular correspondence or communication with his personal tutor, according to any agreements the two have decided upon. But regardless of the random distance to the Temple that the reader finds himself to be in, he will henceforth as a future member of the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora learn to keep a diary in which he accurately will record his exercises and any progress, or shortcomings for that matter, which partially lies as a basis for the assessment of advancement within the Order. As a initiate of the Order, the member must be prepared to participate in an initiatory process that will result in a relatively intense development of his personality which he probably never has experienced before in his life. This also causes a lot of “growing pains”; as well as life itself contains highlights and troughs, ebb and flow, so too will the initiatory process of the development of his personality confer periods of light and periods of darkness.

Page 10: Initiation - Aurora Nascente in Hyperborea€¦  · Web viewThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴)

Nigredo

To live as an initiate is thus “not a bed of roses”. On the contrary the initiate, if he is sincere in his aspirations, will experience great challenges in his life, probably of a kind that he has never experienced before. As there is plenty of tears of joy in the life of an initiate, there are also a lot of tears of sadness. The path of the initiate is not a path of happiness, but rather of melancholy. In many ways initiation concerns the obtainment of self-knowledge, and the truth about one’s self is not always an easy or pleasant one to bear; with increased knowledge does not necessarily always follow satisfaction and joy.

Thus, if the reader’s higher goals with initiation is to gain “happiness” and “success” in life, such as most want to define it today from their narrow materialistic outlook, he should not seek membership in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora! All of the abilities and achievements that we initially enumerated are subjectively guaranteed, but not without much sacrifice or much time investment, much effort and energy, on the part of the initiate, in what we refer to as The Great Work – the magical and alchemical work. The initiatory path is necessarily a highly personal story and major individual differences are thus inevitable based on personal temperament, talent, perseverance, motivation and discipline, regarding the success or failure in the work; the subjective factor is crucial.

Melancholia

Page 11: Initiation - Aurora Nascente in Hyperborea€¦  · Web viewThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴)

On the whole, the Work concerns the necessary refinement of the body and soul of the initiate. It ultimately concerns the conquest of true immortality of his soul. However, any result stands or falls on how much time and energy the initiate is prepared to invest in this work on his self-improvement. If the initiate ventures upon this path half-heartedly he will only reap a very limited harvest. In the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora we expect of our members that they are willing to devote their lives wholeheartedly to The Great Work, and this regardless of the life situation that they otherwise find themselves to be. This is the criterion we put on advancement and development in our Order. Furthermore, we expect from our candidates of admission and initiation a humanistic outlook, in addition to a belief in spiritual beings and in God or Gods.

So if the reader is considering applying for membership in our Order our first advice to him is to look into his heart and ask himself how serious and honest he truly is in his intentions. Is the reader really prepared to make this extensive investment and sacrifice which it takes to become successful on the magical and alchemical path? Although there are enormous profits and “premiums” to gain from membership in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora, in our initiatory system and graded teaching, this does not mean that the Temple will do the work for the initiate; each of us has our own cross to carry. It is only the initiate who may walk his path and unfortunately this necessarily constitutes a very steep and difficult ascent. The reader should remember, however, that for those who reach the summit there is much “riches” to grain – if he or she perseveres. What the Temple can do is to guide the aspirant towards the mountain of initiation and give him the map and the necessary compass by which he may find his way to the summit.

The Mountain of Philosophers

Page 12: Initiation - Aurora Nascente in Hyperborea€¦  · Web viewThe Hermetic theurgical and alchemical system as taught in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora (H∴O∴N∴A∴)

However, not all, or far from the majority, are those that succeed in travelling the entire path of this spiritual mountain climbing, which for most initiates take decades to complete. Many have tried and returned without being able to complete the journey of the Hermit. Does the reader have what it takes to climb his own mountain? Is he enduring enough? Is the reader ready today to take this possibly most important step in his life?

To assist the reader to take a more considered decision, we invite him to preview our Outer Order curriculum. This will make the reader more educated to form an opinion about the scope of the teachings and what he may expect from membership. Next, we recommend the reader, under the condition that he is serious in his considerations, to write a letter to us so that we jointly may determine at an early stage which form of membership in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora that might be relevant in his individual case: (a) active and local membership or (b) correspondence membership.

Thus, if the reader wants to have more information about the terms and conditions of membership in the Hermetic Order of the Nascent Aurora, and wish to know the actual distance to the nearest Temple, he may send a request to the Cancellarius of the Mother Temple.
