• Japanese painter• Late 1500s/ 16th century• Part of Expressionism art movement: not about a
perfect reproduction of the subject, about capturing the subject’s mood, spirit or expression.
Material & Method: India Ink & Ink Wash• India Ink: black ink used for writing and printing in the
past. Now used more for drawing and painting, made of soot and water.
• Ink Wash: East Asian type of painting, developed from using india ink for calligraphy
