Dozens of youth, divided into various age groups, waited eagerly for their turn to rush their designated grassy patches for the chance to collect as many eggs as possible, and find the special one that would secure them a prize. The smallest and youngest of the kids were accompanied along by a parent, many of whom exhibited more excitement than their con- fused and curious tots, pointing out eggs and placing them into the bas- kets themselves, pulling them by the hand coaxing them toward the next plastic oval. Sponsored by the Kendall Hills Neighborhood Association, the Easter egg event has been in exis- tence for over 12 years, said KHNA Board President Amanda Jacobs. The event is an annual op- portunity for the neighborhood to get together. “It’s nice to see kids and families having a good time where they’re safe,” Jacobs said. Following the Easter egg hunt families convened at the Verde- mont Community Center & Li- brary where children were provided a beverage, snack and an Easter goodie bag. Raffle prizes were drawn, which included a free haircut from Clip- pers, gift cards to Farmer Boys, Scandia, Ralph’s, school supplies, jewelry and more. “We look forward to this event every year,” said Janie Leyva, one of roughly 40 families who at- tended the event. “This is an op- portunity to meet with people that live in our neighborhoods and the kids can hunt for Easter eggs in a safe environment, and they (kids) look forward to the chance to win prizes and meet new friends.” The event was funded by the KHNA through donations and membership dues; sponsors of the event were San Bernardino 5th Ward Councilman Chas Kelley, Scandia, Farmer Boys and Clip- pers.
