InletYoga’s200hrTeacherTrainingProgramisafoundationalprogramrootedinPatanjali’sAshtangayoga(theeightlimbs).Withanemphasisonthelimbofasana,primarilyvinyasaflow;thistrainingwill
providestudentswiththeknowledge,practiceandexperiencetobecomeinspiring,creative,andknowledgeableteachers.Thistrainingisopentoallstudentswhowouldliketodeepentheirpractice.UponsuccessfulcompletionofthistrainingastudentwillbeeligibletoregisterwithYogaAllianceasa
certifiedteacher.ApplicationsareduefortheFallSemesterbyAugust15th2013.
MissionStatementInletYogaTeacherTrainingwascreatedtoprovidequalityinstructionofVinyasaYoga:weprovidea
safe,nurturingatmosphereforindepthstudyofthepracticeofyogatoenablethestudenttodeepentheirpersonalpracticeandfindtheiruniquevoiceandsoulasaskilledyogateacher.JeffSeymour(E‐RYT)andEmmaCanarick(RYT)andInletYogawillprovideaqualityeducationalexperiencethatprepares
graduatestosucceedintheyogainstructionindustry.Philosophy
AtInletYogawebelievethateverypersonhasthepotentialforgreatness,andthatitisourjobtohelpourstudentsrealizetheirgreatness.Wedothisthroughprovidingclasses,workshopsandevents;thatareaccessibletoalllevels,welcomingandinspiring.Wealsomakeacommitmenttotakeouryogaout
oftheclassroomandintothecommunity,throughawelcoming,inspiringandaccessiblepracticeforalllevels.Thisisaunionofthestudentandteacherwithin,atransformationthatwillallowteachersto
inspiretheirstudentsthroughteachingaswellaslivingtheiryoga.
HistoryTheInletYogaTeacherTrainingProgramwascreatedin2013byEmmaCanarickandJeffSeymour.TheschoolislocatedindowntownManasquan,NJ.TheInletYogaTeacherTrainingcurriculumfollowsthe
YogaAllianceguidelinesandisaRegisteredSchool(RYS)withYogaAlliance.UponcompletionoftheprogramstudentswillreceiveaCertificateofCompletionandcanapplyforregistrationwithYogaAllianceasaRegisteredYogaTeacheratthe200‐hourlevel(RYT200).
ProgramDescriptionTheInletYogaTeacherTrainingprogramexceedstheminimumstandardsdescribedbyYogaAllianceto
becomeaRegisteredYogaTeacher(RYT)atthe200hourlevel.TheInletYogaTeacherTrainingProgramcomprisesbothcontacthoursandnon‐contacthoursofhomeworkandself‐study.Asnoted,acertificateofcompletionisawardeduponsatisfactorycompletionofallcontactandnon‐contacthours.
Contacthoursareearnedthroughregularattendanceandnon‐contacthoursaresubstantiatedbycompletionofhomeworkandjournaling.

RequirementsforProgramAdmission

We’llcontactyouwithinoneweekstoconfirmenrollment,startdateandtimeframe.Mostprogram
correspondencewilloccurelectronically,soapplicantsshouldbecomputerliterateandhaveaccesstoemail.
Itisrecommendedthatyoumakepaymentinfullshortlyafterbeingadmittedtotheprogramasthiscementsyourstatusasastudentoftheteachertrainingprogram.Fullpaymentisrequiredbystartdateoftheprogram.
UponacceptanceintotheprogramapplicantsmustsigntheEnrollmentAgreement&LiabilityReleaseForm,andTheYogaTeacherCodeofEthicsform.
AdvanceStandingTheschooldoesnotofferadvancestandingforanyprevioustraining’sorcoursework.

TheInletYogaTeacherTrainingProgramdoesnotdiscriminateonthebasisofage,gender,maritalstatus,nationalorethnicorigin,sexualorientation,color,raceorreligion.

EmploymentAssistanceServices
InletYogadoesnotofferemploymentassistanceservices.TheInletYogaTeacherTrainingProgramoffersstrategiesandsuggestionsforpursuingYogaasacareer,butdoesnotoffercareercounselingorjobplacement.TheProgrammakesnoguaranteeofemployment.
StudentConductStudentsmustadheretotherulesandregulationsofInletYoga.Studentswhoseconductreflects
discredituponthemselvesortheschoolmaybesubjecttotermination.Thestudentmustadheretoconductthatwillnotinterferewiththelearningprocessofanyotherstudents,theclassroompresentationbytheinstructor,presentationbyvisitors,ortheprogressoftheclassorInletYogain
general.EmmaCanarick,JeffSeymourandtheadministrationofInletYogareservetherightofjudgmenttoterminateastudentonanyofthefollowinggrounds:
• Non‐conformityofrulesandregulationsofInletYoga;
• Excessivetardinesswhichdisruptsotherstudents;
• ConductthatisunsatisfactorytoInletYoga,it'sstaff,facultyandit'sstudents;
• Falsifyingschoolrecords;
• Failuretopayfeeswhendue;
• Aiding,abetting,orincitingotherstocommitanyactthatwoulddetractfromthenormal
operationofInletYoga;and
• Theft.
AttendanceTogainmaximumbenefitfromtheprogramattendancetoallsessionsisrequired.Ifyouanticipatemissingclasssessions,pleasediscussthisduringyourinterview.Formalattendancewillbeconducted
foreachclass.Pleasearrive15minutesearlytoadequatelypreparefortheclass.Ifastudentdoesmissaclass,theymustmeetwiththeTeacherTrainingDirectortodevelopandagree
onaplantolearnthemissedcontentandfulfilltherequiredhours.ItistotheStudent’sbenefitthatallmissedmaterialbemadeuppriortothenextscheduledmeeting.Yogaasanatimemissedmaybemadeupbyattendingapprovedclasses.Lecturesandotherclassesthatareuniquetothetrainingmaybe
madeupthroughindividualprivateinstruction.Makeupinstructionresultingfromabsenceswillbecharged$65perhour.
TardinessPleasebeontimeandarriveatleast15minutesearlytobereadyforthestartofclass.Ifastudentarrivesafterthestartoftheclass,thestudentisconsideredtardy.
LeavesofAbsenceLeavesofAbsencearenotofferedfromtheTeacherTrainingProgram.Ifastudentshouldhaveto
discontinuethetraining,theywouldhavetobeginagain.

Ifthestudentdoesdecidetocontinueatalaterdate,andtherehasbeenanincreaseintuition,the
studentisresponsibleforthedifferencebetweenthetuitionwhentheyoriginallystartedtheprogramandthetuitionwhentheycontinuetheprogram.
Probation,DismissalandRe‐AdmittanceStudentswhoarenotfulfillingStudentConductcodes(see“StudentConduct”)willreceiveawrittenwarning.Shouldasecondincidentofconductpolicyviolationoccur,terminationfromtheprogramwill
result.TheschoolDirectorwillmakethisdecision.Studentsmayapplyforre‐admissiontoafutureclass,howeveradmissionisnotguaranteed.
TuitionandFeesTuitionfortheentirecourseis$3,300ifregisteredandpaidinfullbySeptember13th,2013.AfterSeptember13,2013tuitionfortheentirecourseis$3,500.PleasemakeallcheckspayabletoInletYoga
LLC.Wealsoacceptcreditcardandcash.CancellationandRefundPolicy
Thestudentwillreceiveafullrefundofallmoneypaidifthestudentcancelswithintencalendardaysfromstartofprogram.Thestudentwillreceivetherefundwithin30businessdays.Aspartofthispolicy,theschoolwillretainaone‐timeapplicationdepositofnomorethan$500.
StudentProgress
Weeklyhomework,papers,journals,awrittenmidtermandfinalexam,andateachingdemonstration(practicum)willbeusedtoassessthestudent’sunderstandingofthematerialpresented.Thewrittenexamwillcover:TeachingMethodology,AnatomyandPhysiology,andYogaPhilosophy/Lifestyleand
EthicsforYogaTeachers.Scoresof70%correctofhigherwillconstitutepassingtheexam.Studentsareexpectedtomaintainadailyjournaloftheirpersonalasanapractice,meditation,andyoga.
Studentsareaskedtoattendaminimumoftwoclassesperweek.Studentsenrolledintheprogramarewelcometoattendanypublicclasstaught.
ShouldStudentprogressnotbesatisfactoryatanypointduringthetraining,studentswillbenotifiedimmediatelytoscheduleameetingwiththeSchoolDirectortodiscusswaystoimproveperformance
andcompletepastrequirements.Studentsmaycontinuetoattendclasses,regardlessoftheirexamperformance.However,theywillnot
receivecertificationunlessmeetingtherequirementsstipulatedbelow.

CertificationandGraduationToreceiveacertificateofcompletionfromInletYogaTeacherTrainingstudentsmustmeettheprogram
requirementsasoutlinedinthisagenda.InordertoreceiveaCertificateofCompletionthestudentisrequiredtohaveattendedandcompletedallcontacthoursandnon‐contacthours.Studentsmustpasstheexam,completeallhomeworksatisfactorily,andmeetattendancerequirements.
ProgramCurriculumTheInletYogaTeacherTrainingprogramincludesfiveprogramdisciplines.Thefullprogramconsistsof
250hours.AsdefinedbyYogaAlliance,acontacthourisaclassroomhourinthephysicalpresenceofafacultymember.Non‐contacthoursarereadingandhomeworkassignmentsaswellasanypersonalpractices.
1. TechniquesTraining(TT)andpracticeconsistsoflearninghowtoteachandpracticetraditional
yogatechniquesincludingasana,pranayama,kriya,mantra,meditation,bandha,andmudra.
2. TeachingMethodology(TM)consistsoftheprinciplesofdemonstration,observation,assisting,adjusting,instruction,teachingstyles,qualitiesofateacher,thestudent’sprocessoflearning,andbusinessaspectsofteachingyoga.
3. AnatomyandPhysiology(A&P)consistsofhumanphysicalanatomyandphysiology(bodilysystems,organs,etc.)andYogicenergyanatomyandphysiology(chakras,nadis,etc.)Itincludesboththestudyofthesubjectandapplicationofitsprinciplestoyogapractice(benefits,
contraindications,healthymovementpatterns,etc).4. YogaPhilosophy/LifestyleandEthicsforYogaTeachers(PLE)consistsofthestudyofyoga
philosophies,yogalifestyle,andethicsforyogateachers.Thephilosophyportionofthetrainingwillincludethereadinganddiscussionofancientyogatexts.TextcommentariesarediscussedinagroupsettingtoexplorethecorephilosophiesofYogaandhowtheycanbeappliedto
everydaylife(“yogaoffthemat”).Studentsareencouragedtoexploretheirownpersonalconnectiontotheteachingandexaminetheintegrationofyogicphilosophyintotheirclasses.
5. Practicum(PR)consistsofpracticeteaching,receivingfeedback,observingothersteachingand
hearing/givingfeedback.
ProgramGoals
Asana:Uponcompletionoftheprogramthestudentwillbeabletoperformtheasanasand/orguideastudentintotheasanascoveredintheprogram.Foreachposturethestudentwillbeabletodescribehowtoenterandexittheposture,thebenefits,cautions,andcontraindications,properalignmentand
performhands‐onadjustments.ThebasicPranayamasofDiaphragmatic,1:1,Dirgha(ThreePart),Ujjayi,NadiShodhana,Kapalabhati,SamaVrittiwillbecoveredaswellastheBandhas:Mulabandha,Uddiyanabandha,Jalandharabandha.
Meditation:Uponcompletionoftheprogramthestudentwillbeabletoteachandleadinaseatedmeditationpracticeanddescribethebenefitsandcautionsofthesepractices.

Philosophy:UponcompletionoftheprogramthestudentwillbefamiliarwiththeeightlimbsofYogaasdefinedbyPatanjaliintheclassictext,TheYogaSutra.Theywillalsounderstandthedifferences
betweenTantraYogaandClassical(PatanjaliYoga)systems;andunderstandtherelationshipbetweenYogaandAyruveda.
AnatomyandPhysiology:Uponcompletionoftheprogramthestudentwillbeabletocorrectlyidentifythemajorbonesandmusclesofthebody,understandmovementandhowtopreventinjuriesfromoccurringduringasanapractice,understandtheprimarysystemsofthebody,understandtheenergetic
body(includingtheChakras),andunderstandbasicnutrition.TeachingMethodology:Uponcompletionoftheprogramthestudentwillbeabletoproperlysequence,
construct,andinstructasafeclass.PersonalGrowth:Inadditiontotheskillsdirectlyrelatedtoteachingyoga,thestudentislikelyto
enhancetheirownpersonalyogapractice,improvetheircommunicationskills,andunderstandpersonalandbusinessethics.RequiredTimeStudentsshouldbeinyogaappropriatedress,readywithbooksandmaterialsatthetimesstated.Studentswillalsowanttobringfoodand/ormoneyforbreaks.Foodisnotprovided.Non‐contacthourswillvaryduetorateoflearningandinterestinsubject.However,thecompletionofthesehourswillbemonitoredthroughjournalingandhomework.Thesehoursarevitaltotheprogram.AdditionalRequirementsJournalMaintainaregularasanapractice,minimumof20minutesaday.Eachentryshallcontain: Date,timeandLengthofPracticeandanyadditionalnotesorthoughts.Maintainaregularmeditationpractice.Eachentryshallcontain: Date,timeandLengthofPracticeandanyadditionalnotesorthoughts.Maintaindailygratitudejournal,simplystatingonethingthatthestudentisgratefulforeachday.TeachingLogMustteach3fullyogaclasses.Theseyogaclassesmaybetaughtanywhere.InletYogawillprovideclassestoteachforthosewhosignupforapprenticetaughtclass.Thenumberwillbedeterminedbyavailabilityandschedule.Books,SuppliesandothermaterialsSuppliesmaybepurchasedanywhere.Studentswillneednotebooksforasanapractice,meditation,gratitudejournaling,pens/pencils.Itisrecommendedthatstudentshavetheirownyogamat.Allotherprops,manualsandmaterialswillbeprovided.Allstudentswillalsohavemalabeads,meditationshawl,andanetipot.

RequiredReadingThisTrainingAgendaisprovided.LightonYogabyB.K.S.IyengarYogaSutrasbyPatanjaliBhagavadGita(AnatomyreadingTBD)VariationsInTimeEverytrainingweekendisdifferentwithsub‐topicsexplored,theabsorptionrateofthestudentsandpossibleweatheremergencies.Also,therewillbeadegreeofinternalworkinthetrainingwhichcanverygreatlyintheamountoftimenecessaryforbestresult.Pleasedonotexpectearlydismissal.TimeorVenueChangesOutrightchangeswillbeavoidedifatallpossible,butshouldtherebeaneedforatimeorvenuechange,studentswillbenotifiedviaemailwithinoneweekofthedateatthelatest.TeacherTrainingSchoolPoliciesWeconsideranapplicanttobeastudentoftheyogateachertrainingwhentheyhavemetthefollowingcriteria:Havesuccessfullygonethroughtheapplicationprocess(seeabove)Havemadesatisfactoryarrangementsforpayments.HavesignedandhandedinacopyoftheStudentEnrollmentForm.SatisfactoryProgressSatisfactoryprogressisdefinedasactivelyparticipatinginallcontacthoursandlevelsofthetrainingprogramandcompletionofthehomeworkandjournaling.Intheeventastudentdoesnotachievetheestablishedcriteriafordeterminingsatisfactoryprogress,thestudentwillbenotifiedandgivenopportunitytoestablishthesecriteriaviathemeansoutlinedinthe"makeuphours"section.AbsenceRecordsAbsencesarerecordedbyattendingfacultyandassistantsandkeptwithstudentrecordsinasecuredatabase.TerminationProcedureStudentstobeterminatedfromtheprogramarenotifiedinwritingandmayappealtothedirectoroftheInletYogaTeacherTrainingProgramwithinthreedaysofNoticeofTermination.ReinstatementAllstudentsrequestingreinstatementmaybedeniedatthediscretionoftheprogramdirector.Studentsapplyingforreinstatementmustattendameetingwiththeprogramdirector,wherethetermsofreinstatementwillbeestablishedbasedontheoriginalreasonforterminationfromtheprogram,seestudentconductabove.Thesetermswillbeputintoawrittenreinstatementagreementwhichmustthenbesignedbythestudentinordertobereinstated.Thestudentunderstandsthatanybreachofthereinstatementagreementresultsintermination.Alldecisionsarefinal.Students’Records

StudentrecordsaremaintainedatInletYogastudioincomputerandpaperfiles.Therecordsmaintainedincludetheapplication,andexamcompletion,attendancerecordsandacopyoftheCertificateof
Completion.Recordswillbestoredforaperiodofthreeyearsfromthedateofgraduation.RecordsareprivateandstudentsmustcontactInletYogaStudioinwritingtoobtainrecordsorareplacementgraduationcertificate.Recordswillonlybesenttotheparticipant.Thereisa$25feeforreplacement
certificates.

YogaTeacherTrainingFacultyJeffSeymour,E‐RYT(LeadFaculty)JeffSeymourisastudentofSriDharmaMittra.Hecompletedboththe200and500hourcertificationprogramsattheDharmaMittraYogaCenterinNewYork.JeffhasthedistincthonorofmentoringteachertraineesinDharma'sLifeofaYogiTeacherTrainingprogramandhasassistedDharmainworkshopsawayfromtheNewYorkCenter.JeffteachesclassesatDharma'sNewYorkCenterandatvariouslocationsalongtheJerseyShore.Hisclassesaccommodatefirsttimersandadvancedstudentsalike.EmmaCanarick,RYT(Co‐LeadFaculty)EmmaCanarickhasbeenteachingsinceshereceivedherYogaAlliancecertificationinMay2005fromLaughingLotusCollegeofYogainNewYorkCity.ShehastaughtinNYC,HobokenandintheShoreareafornearly10years.Herclassesareacombinationofhighenergyasana,music,andpositiveflow.YogaCodeofEthicsOncecertifiedasayogateacher,yourepresentnotonlyInletYogaTeacherTraining,itsfacultyandtheprogramdirectortoyourstudents,buttheyogiclineage.Certifiedteachersareexpectedtoupholdthefollowingethicalstandards.Pleasereadthestandardstobesurethatitisconsistentwithyouvaluesasallcertifiedteacherswillbetrainedtofollowthisstandard.EthicsPurposeAsyogainstructors,weshouldbeawareofthesensitivenatureofthestudent‐teacherrelationship.Webelievethatitistheresponsibilityoftheyogateachertocreateasafeenvironmentinwhichastudentcangrowphysically,mentally,emotionally,andspiritually.PrinciplesInordertoprotectthestudentinthispotentiallyvulnerablerelationship,aswellastoupholdthehighestprofessionalstandardsforyogateacherandtoprovideanenvironmentwhichnurturesgrowth,weagreetoacceptthefollowingfoundationalprinciples:
• Toavoiddiscriminatingagainstorrefusingprofessionalhelptoanyoneonthebasisofrace,gender,sexualorientation,religion,ornationalorigin;

• Toseekoutandengageincollegialrelationshipsandpeerrelationships,recognizingthatisolationcanleadtoalossofperspectiveandjudgment;

PracticeofStudentRelationshipsInrecognitionofthetrustplacedinusasteachersbyouryogastudents,itisourresponsibilitytomaintainrelationshipswithstudentsonaprofessionalbasisthathonorstheuniqueandsensitivenatureofthisrelationship.
• Wedonotabandonorneglectstudents.Ifweareunable,orunwillingforappropriatereasons,toprovideprofessionalhelporcontinueaprofessionalrelationship,everyreasonableeffortismadetoarrangeforcontinuationofinstructionwithanotherteacher.
• Wemakeonlyrealisticstatementsregardingthebenefitsofyoga.• Weshowsensitiveregardforthemoral,social,andreligiousstandardsofstudentsand
groups.Weavoidimposingourbeliefsonothers,althoughwemayexpressthemwhenappropriateintheyogaclass.
• Werecognizethetrustplaceinanduniquepowerofthestudent‐teacherrelationship.Whileacknowledgingthecomplexityofsomeyogarelationships,weavoidexploitingthetrustanddependencyofstudents.Weavoidthosedualrelationshipswithstudents(e.g.,business,closepersonal,orsexualrelationships)thatcouldimpairourprofessionaljudgment,compromisetheintegrityofourinstruction,and/orusetherelationshipforourowngain.
• Shouldwefeelextraordinarycircumstancestoengageinsuchadualrelationship,itisourresponsibilitytoconsultourownteacherforadvicebeforeproceeding.Wevowtorepresentthesituationhonestlyandhonorourteacher’sadvice.

• Allformsofsexualbehaviororharassmentwithstudentsareunethical,evenwhenastudentinvitesorconsentstosuchinvolvement.
• Werecognizethattheteacher‐studentrelationshipinvolvesapowerimbalance,theresidualeffectsofwhichcanremainafterthestudentisnolongerstudyingwiththeteacher.Therefore,wesuggestextremecautionifyouchoosetoenterintoapersonalrelationshipwithaformerstudent.
• Wetreatallcommunicationsfromstudentswithprofessionalconfidence.• Whensupervisingapprenticesorconsultingwithotheryogateachers,weuseonlythefirst
namesofourstudents,exceptinthosesituationswheretheidentityofthestudentisnecessarytotheunderstandingofthecase.Itisourresponsibilitytoconveytheimportanceofconfidentialitytotheapprenticeofconsultant.
