Dear Members,Welcome to spring! Let me start by congratulating Jordan Spieth for winning the 2015 Valspar Championship on our Copperhead Course – we’re already looking forward to another vibrant and colorful event next year.

We have of lots exciting and fun family activities this month. Head to the Osprey Bar in Market Salamander Grille for some of our dining specials including BYOB (Build Your Own Burrito) or our Final Four Menu, which features drinks and bar bites as you keep up with the excitement of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

April at Innisbrook means Easter activities for everyone such as an Easter egg dive at Loch Ness Pool, an Egg-citing Carnival, and an Easter Sunday Brunch buffet in Inverness ballroom.

As many of you may know, we will start restorative enhancements to our Copperhead Course in May. The six-month restoration period will end in October and includes replacing all fairways and rough, the rebuilding of each green, and reshaping of the bunkers to stay true to Larry Packard’s design, which is so loved by the PGA TOUR players. Our three other courses will remain open during Copperhead’s enhancements.

For more information about upcoming activities and events at Innisbrook or updates on Copperhead, please contact Christine Desiderio.

Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Innisbrook and our sister properties. We are excited to share these great stories about our properties:

Salamander Hotels & Resorts announces enhancements to the famed Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort

Restorative improvements at the site of the Valspar Championship will honor the guiding principles

of Course Architect Larry Packard

Innisbrook Resort’s three other layouts headlined by the highly regarded Island Course

PALM HARBOR, FL (March 12, 2015)—Salamander Hotels & Resorts today announced comprehensive enhancements to its famed Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort that will honor the guiding principles of legendary Course Architect Larry Packard.

The six-month restorative work will take place from May through October this year and includes replacing all fairways and rough, rebuilding each green, and reshaping bunkers to stay true to Packard’s masterful design. The announcement was made on the first day of the 2015 Valspar Championship presented by BB&T, an official PGA TOUR event, which is held annually at Copperhead. The tree-lined layout features rolling terrain and is rated by many professionals as one of the finest courses they play.

“ Our vision is to respect and protect the vision of Larry Packard and his signature design, and continue to elevate the golf experience for our guests, members, partners and playing professionals,” said Sheila C. Johnson, Founder & CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts, and owner of Innisbrook. “Our exciting restoration will accomplish this goal in an environmentally sensitive fashion and help maintain Innisbrook’s reputation as a one of America’s top golf destinations for years to come.”

Copperhead has hosted a professional golf tournament for the past 25 years and is home to the Snake Pit, which is one of the toughest closing stretches of holes in golf. It opened in 1972 and is one of four layouts at the resort designed by Packard, who passed away last year at the age of 101. An architect of over 600 courses, Packard lived at Innisbrook for more than 40 years while the resort’s steakhouse even bears his name. Innisbrook’s three other Packard-designed courses: Island, North and South will allow the resort to continue to provide excellent alternatives for its members, groups and guests. In fact, many local residents rank Island as their favorite Innisbrook course and it is often played by professionals tuning up for the Valspar Championship.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing The Copperhead,” said Luke Donald, who won at Innisbrook in 2012. “It is one of my favorite weeks of the year. I’m very glad to hear that Innisbrook is doing so much to make sure that it remains a great test of golf for years to come.”

“As players, you judge a tournament by the course, by the facilities and by the people involved,” said Stewart Cink, the 2009 Open Championship winner. “The Copperhead is very well-designed. There is a resistance to low scoring, but it is very fair. The course is in great shape with pure greens and uniform fairways. It makes for great golf and with this news, it sounds like Valspar and Innisbrook are doing their part to make sure it stays that way for years to come.

As part of the plan to faithfully restore the intent and characteristics of Packard’s timeless design, Wadsworth Golf Construction Company – which was the original course builder – has been engaged to oversee the project work. Each green will be rebuilt to United States Golf Association specifications with TifEagle Bermuda grass, while several will be restored to their original size to allow for additional pin placements. Fairways will be replaced with Celebration Bermuda grass and a number of viewing areas around the greens will be modified to allow for larger tournament galleries in the future.

“ This makes a significant statement by Salamander and Sheila Johnson to elevate this event for the Tampa Bay area, and is an important step toward ensuring our long-term commitment to this great event,”

said Gary Hendrickson, Chairman and CEO of The Valspar Corporation.

The restorative project will also include the reshaping and rebuilding of Copperhead’s strategically placed bunkers. All tee boxes will be rebuilt and laser leveled, several will be expanded, and the forward tee length will be shortened to enhance the experience for junior, senior and women golfers. The length of the course for tour professionals, however, will remain at a challenging 7,340 yards.

“ The Copperhead Course is a jewel on the schedule and this restoration will only enhance its standing among our players,”

said Andy Pazder, Executive Vice President and Chief of Operations for the PGA TOUR.

In the spirit of recent sustainability initiatives by the United States Golf Association and the PGA of America, a new state-of-the-art irrigation system will be installed that will save 11 million gallons of water per year – enough to fill 1,100 Olympic-sized swimming pools. Prior to this year’s Valspar Championship, Salamander also added new sand to Copperhead’s bunkers, extended a number of tee boxes, and conducted multiple course aerifications and fertilizer applications.

Valspar Championship Recap —By Matt Owen

The fifth and final edition of the Salamander Sentinel of the Valspar Championship presented by BB&T at Innisbrook’s Copperhead Course, featured this recap of the best media coverage of the event.

The final round featured no shortage of excitement with 21-year-old phenom Jordan Spieth prevailing after an incredible three-way, three-hole playoff against Patrick Reed and Sean O’Hair. The win vaults Spieth to #6 in the Official World Golf Rankings, and Salamander Founder & CEO Sheila Johnson assisted with the trophy presentation on the 18th green.

Quotes of the day about Copperhead“ I’ve not seen a course this green other than Augusta National. It looks unreal.” – Steve Sands, Golf Channel Announcer

“ Everyone loves this course. The players don’t have a bad thing to say about it, and that’s rare on the PGA TOUR.”

– Jordan Spieth, 2015 Valspar Championship winner

Please feel free to share this accordingly with other associates, clients and contacts.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone at Innisbrook who worked so diligently to deliver what is, by consensus, the greatest tournament in Innisbrook’s long PGA TOUR history. We are already looking forward to 2016.

Honoring Mr. Packard

From the Desk of the Director:As we “Spring Forward” into April, I’d like to take a moment and acknowledge some of the exciting moments that we experienced in March. The Valspar Championship presented by BB&T proved to be one of the most exciting PGA Tour events this year. Jordan Spieth became the newest Valspar Champion on the Copperhead Course, winning on the third playoff hole against Sean O’Hair and Patrick Reed. The Innisbrook Men’s Club Championship crowned a first time winner, John Welden, as the Women re-crowned a past champion, Barb Wellard, in the stroke play divisions. Congratulations to both!

Moving into April, we’ll continue to work to enhance our practice facilities. Installment of the range mats have begun on the South end of the driving range and are set to be completed early next week. We have also begun a program that will have the driving ranges sanded regularly to fill divots and promote better consistency and hitting conditions. A beautiful, fusion cast, yardage sign for the North end of the driving range will arrive and be installed in 3-4 weeks; we will be doing the same upon completion of the range mats on the South end.

And finally, exciting news about restoring the Copperhead to its original form was announced by Ms. Sheila Johnson last week. The project will have all new drainage on the course along with a new state-of-the-art irrigation system that will save 11 million gallons of water a year. Other enhancements will include expansion of tee boxes and greens along with new Celebration Bermuda Turf in the rough & fairways and new Tiff Eagle grass on the greens. The 6 month restoration project is set to begin on Monday, May 4 and, with the cooperation of Mother nature, set to be completed on Thursday, October 29.

Roast Leg of LambSpringtime is Lamb season. For Easter, or anytime, it makes a great change from your normal beef, chicken or pork for your main protein in a family dinner. The recipe I will share will be for a 5 pound Boneless Leg of Lamb (easier to carve). When picking out a boneless leg of lamb it will either be tied by the butcher or in a net to keep it together while cooking (DO NOT remove netting until after cooking). You want to get about 8 oz (raw weight) per person you are serving. One of my culinary pet peeves is mint jelly being served with lamb. It is my personal mission to make a great tasting lamb that people will not cover u.p with mint jelly. I believe that lamb has a wonderful flavor when cooked properly and covering that gamey taste with something that resembles toothpaste should not be allowed

Serves 8-10

• 5 Pound Boneless Leg of Lamb (tied or netted)

• 2 Ounces Olive Oil• 3 Sprigs Fresh Rosemary

(picked, chopped, keep stems)

• 3 Sprigs Fresh Thyme (picked, chopped, keep stems)

• 6 Cloves Fresh Garlic (chopped fine)• 1 Ounces Kosher Salt• ½ Ounce Cracked Black Pepper• ½ Ounce Granulated Onion Powder

• 2 Bay Leaves• 2 Stalks Celery (rough chop)• 1 Carrot (peeled, rough chop)• ½ White Onion

(peeled, rough chop)• ½ cup Red Wine

Cooking Method1. Mix Olive Oil, Rosemary, Thyme, Garlic, Salt, Pepper and Onion Powder2. Rub Lamb Leg with mixture and let sit a minimum of 2 hours (preferred to leave in refrigerator overnight)3. Pull Lamb out of refrigeration and let sit at room temperature for one hour4. Preheat oven to 325 degrees5. In a 2 inch deep baking pan place chopped Celery, Carrots and Onions on bottom with Thyme Stems,

Rosemary Stems, Bay Leaves and Red Wine6. Place lamb on top of vegetables and cover loosely with aluminum foil7. Put in oven and cook for one hour and 15 minutes8. Remove foil and check temperature of lamb (looking for 125-130 degrees)9. Continue to cook uncovered for another 15-20 minutes or until internal temperature of 140 degrees for

medium (if more well done is desired cook to 155 degrees)10. Remove Lamb from pan and let rest for 15 before carving11. Deglaze pan with splash of red wine, remove bay leaves, stems (and grease with ladle if there is any)12. Put drippings and vegetables in a blender to make a sauce, season to taste with salt and pepper13. Remove netting or tie and carve14. NO MINT JELLY NEEDED

Written and photographed by Golf Operations Dave NoelIt’s hard to beat the inspiration of watching a falcon in flight. One of the many spectacular birds that migrates back to Alaska in the spring to nest and rear their young is the Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregririus). The name comes from the Latin adjective pereginus, meaning “coming from foreign parts” or “wanderer”. The peregrine was so named as a result of the lengthy migrations of some populations, and, surely, the ones which arrive here have come a long ways and will not remain long in this area. A North American name for the peregrine was “duck hawk” and the naturalist Audubon aptly called the bird the “great-footed hawk” but these names are no longer used. Its usual quarry are birds. The speed of its dives (stoops) at prey are estimated at well over 200 mph. At such speeds it delivers a fierce blow to the prey with a half-closed foot, the usual method of disabling or killing medium-sized and large prey. Small prey such as swallows or sandpipers are snatched in mid-flight.
