Message from Mike Happy New Year!

Ringing in the New Year is cause for celebration, for re-living and looking back. One thing known to be true is that a lot can happen in a year!

I am proud to say that here at Innisbrook we have many reasons to celebrate and accomplishments to look back on. This past year, we made many improvements across the property including re-opening the South Course with new Tifeagle greens and we are closing in upon the transformation of our guest accommodations to feature a new modern and appealing look.

As we look forward into 2019, you will be sure to hear more about our famous Easter and Mother’s Day brunch events, Memorial Day weekend at the Loch Ness Pool and summer camps just around the corner, there is an opportunity for adults and children to enjoy our dining options, recreation activities and 900 acres of nature across the property.

We hope you will continue to make memories with us throughout 2019.

J. Michael Williams Managing Director

From the Desk of the Director of GolfValued Members, Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed the Holidays and you’re on your way to productive, New Year Resolutions. In addition to new Greens on the North and South Golf Courses, we are looking forward to the completion of the newly renovated Guest Rooms early this year; although Innisbrook will be celebrating it’s 50 Year Anniversary in 2020, the property’s golf courses and guest accommodations haven’t been this new in decades!

I wanted to remind everyone of some of the changes going on this year at the Copperhead. With the modifications made to the PGA Tour Schedule this year, the Valspar Championship will be played two weeks later than in previous years. The new dates are March 21 – 24, which is now the week after the Player’s Championship. This new date will have our Cart Paths Only Restriction two week later as well and will begin on Monday, January 21 and go until after the Tournament… and if you haven’t already heard, Brad Paisley will be the Concert on Saturday night, which should bring in record crowds!

I am happy to announce that we will be receiving our new Club Car Golf Fleet by month’s end! I want to personally thank all of you for your patience while the new Fleet has been being manufactured. It’s been a challenging few months but they’ll be here shorty. We have gone to a new color scheme at the three facilities so I look forward to receiving your feedback.

Once again, Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

By Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer

When was the last time your golf handicap decreased? You get everything else in your world fixed when it’s broken and it’s time to put your handicap next! Students spend money on new clubs, teaching aids, always trying this & that and waste valuable time in search of the answers.

When all else fails… read the directions!

Schedule an on-course playing lesson for a complete game check-up along with the road map to drop your handicap. Together let’s make 2019 your best year ever!

TIP OF THE MONTH

New Year’s Tip On the Australian OpenThe year's first grand slam tournament, the Australian Open, begins this month. The beginning of the year is a good time to get your mind straight on exactly how you are going to approach this year's tennis. Are you going to over-think and micro-manage your game, or stay out of your way and let the natural and instinctive take hold? Which will it be? Watch as the pros let their games go. Watch each pro jumping, diving, swinging and playing with controlled abandonment according to their own style and form.

You can do what the pros do, but you have to make the decision to let your game go. Do not let the rigid, conventional methods stop you from experiencing that same freedom of play that anyone can achieve. The Australian Open is the perfect time to reflect.

Notice, the pros do not stand still and stay balanced when they hit every ball. Tennis is a moving game; you must be balanced while you are moving. Staying still and balanced to hit each shot is like trying to ride a bicycle while balanced in one spot! Watch as the pros give themselves the freedom to fall off balance to gain their balance and are instantly ready for the next shot. Many times, they even jump off the ground after a shot. The pros do whatever it takes to regain their balance and stay ready for the next shot. You should learn to do the same. Do not worry if you fall off balance when you play. With practice, just like learning to ride a bicycle, you will improve your balance.

And finally, watch as the pros do not always take a full swing over their shoulders on their ground strokes. Sometimes on the dead run or when they are in trouble the pros hit with a half stroke and hardly any follow-through.

The next time you play, do not worry if you fall off balance after every shot, do not worry if your racket does not go back the instant the ball comes off of your opponent's racket and do not worry if you do not have the perfect follow-through every time. In fact, do not worry, just play! In this fashion you will play in a more automatic and instinctive mode, and come closest to emulating a pro. What agreat way to begin a year.

Happy New Year!

Joe Mattingly, Director

Tree LightingTree Lighting took place on November 30 and the new 12 foot tree took center stage in Inverness Foyer and was lit to the delight of all 110 Members who attended. The lighting was made extra special by the appearance of the East Lake Choir performing in their Madrigal costumes.

Santa Came to TownSanta and Mrs. Claus make their annual appearance on Saturday, December 1. This year Santa and Mrs. Claus had scheduled visiting times for the over 65 children. After the children got to visit with Santa and enjoy the breakfast buffet they were further entertained by the variety of crafts prepared by the recreation department. It also included a gingerbread cookie decorating table and a write a letter to Santa table. The children and over 75 adults enjoyed the breakfast buffet, specialty cocktails and photographs to commemorate the day.

2018 Holiday Season was a hit with Innisbrook families

CarolingThe voices were nothing like the Madrigal singers but the spirit brought together a crowd of over 80 Members for the annual caroling at the fire pit on December 11. Instead of the Florida heat the evening served up a delightfully chilly temperature of 57 degrees.

Gingerbread PJ PartyWhat a fun night! Executive Pastry Chef Brandy Merola and Pastry Chef Tori Dublino made a record breaking 114 Gingerbread houses for the event on December 19 at Stirling Hall. The kids enjoyed the house decorating, Christmas cookies and pillow fights in their PJ’s. Thanks to Paul Chefero, Banquet Manager for creating specialty cocktails that made the evening a true party.

a big thank you

to Cindi Thomas, Director of Conference Services and her team, Kaitlyn Hoy and Virginia Stewart, for taking the reservations on the holiday hotline and

planning the events that ran so smoothly.

Dine Well with Executive Chef Thomas McKinney-Stehr

HUNGARIAN GOULASH SOUPThis classic middle European stew with origin in the Hungarian steppes has many variations, but the character of Goulash comes from paprika. I accent this traditional recipe with caraway seeds, but insist that for the best flavors in this soup, you must use only robust Hungarian paprika. I enjoy the Goulash soup especially in the cooled winter months.
