From the Desk of the Director of Golf:Valued Members, Oh, how times flies….It’s remarkable to think that summer is over and the fall & Holiday Season is already upon us! Welcome back to all our Seasonal Members; we’ve had a productive summer and have been looking forward to your return. As you’ve all heard by now, we have completely re-turfed the North Greens and they look amazing! Mother Nature produced ideal growing conditions most of the summer and the Team did an outstanding job replacing all 18 Greens on the North Course. I’m very proud to report that the North Course is set to open, as originally scheduled, Friday, October 13. Please make it a point to get out and play the new course as soon as possible and I would value any feedback you can provide regarding your experience.

In addition to playing the new North Course, I hope everyone has the opportunity to sign up for our Marque Event of the Season, our Member Guest Tournament. The dates for this year’s Event are January 18-20, 2018. Practice Rounds will be available for participants and their guests on the 17 & 18 (before the Parings Party) at both the Island & Copperhead Courses at a discounted rate. If you’re available to play over these dates, I highly recommend signing up early. We’ve made many enhancements to this year’s Event including a smaller, more intimate field and setting. The Format will be the same as the previous two years but everything else will be enhanced. Sign up info will be out shortly.

I can’t thank our Members enough, over the summer months, for their support and participation. Our Labor Day Event had almost a hundred participants and our

Nine-Hole, Thursday evening Quota Game (called “The Game”) had forty or more players every week. It’s encouraging to see such strong participation in our Member Events. Because of this type of support, we are going to run “The Game” Tuesday’s in October & November beginning at 4pm. The full 2-Month Schedule will be included in this Pipeline Edition under Golf Events. If you’ve never played in “The Game”, I highly encourage you to join us and if you’ve enjoyed “The Game” over the summer months, come out and enjoy a “Fall Edition”. I can guarantee the weather will be a lot cooler☺

Finally, I’d like to close by thanking and congratulating our tremendously hard working Grounds Crew, particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. The fact that we had so many trees go down, broken tree branches and debris over every square inch of our Four Golf Courses and were able to open two days after the storm is truly amazing. The Courses did not have any major damage to any of the Tees, Fairways and Greens and the teamwork and resolve that I witnessed to get the Courses playable again was truly remarkable……I couldn’t be more proud or our Team!

Look forward to seeing you around the Club.

. Bobby Barnes

Important information regarding Dress Code on the Golf Courses and Practice Range

The Board of Governors met in April and discussed amending the dress code in the Code of Regulations. Members were commenting on the appearance of some golfers and their inappropriate dress representative of a Golf Club. The Board voted to adopt a stricter Club dress policy. The new rules of the Code will be effective as of October 1. Here is the new verbiage as it appears in the Code of Regulations.

H. Club dress code for golf courses and practice areas are as follows:

All Members and their Guests must be dressed in the appropriate golf attire.

1. Gentlemen's shirts are to have a collar, turtleneck, or mock turtle (no less than one inch in height), with no less than quarter length sleeves. Proper decorum dictates that shirts must be tucked in at all times. Golf slacks or Bermuda length shorts are permitted. The bill of hats, caps and visors must be worn in the direction you are walking.

2. Women may wear appropriate tops, dresses, skirts, skorts, slacks, Capri-style pants, Bermuda walking shorts or culottes. Appropriate tops do not include halter tops, bathing suits or tank tops.

3. The following clothing items are considered inappropriate attire and will not be permitted on the golf courses, practice putting greens or the practice ranges: anything made from denim, jeans, cut-off shorts, short shorts, bathing suits, tank tops, t-shirts, jogging attire, flip-flops, crocs and leather sandals.

4. Golf shoes or approved shoes are required on all courses and practice areas. Non-metal spikes are a requirement in all clubhouses, golf courses and practice areas.

The IMGA and IWGA Membership roster will be available for pick up at the Membership department at the Island clubhouse by October 20.

By Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer

Building relationships through golf can take you many placesMy first vacation to Ireland in 2009 I met Lynn McCool, the Director of Golf & Head Professional at the K Club. The following year, 17 of the Irish Golf Tour Operators Association IGTOA traveled to Innisbrook Resort to play with our members and encourage golf travel to Ireland. McCool, now the Director of Golf & Head Professional at the Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland travels yearly to the PGA Show where we meet to discuss best practices and share ideas.

McCool and I created the International Ladies Amateur Golf Week hosted by Lough Erne (similar to the Solheim Cup). The event included golf competitions, big break skills challenge, wonderful dining, lake cruise, sightseeing and much more. Each team had 12 players inclusive of our own Innisbrook members: Sue Fishler, Carrie Bell and Joanne Domson. Our team had a former Pro tennis player, a former NFL owner, local players and students of mine from NH and Norway. I went there only knowing 6 people then returned sharing laughs and connections with 18 new people. What a wonderful experience! The local media wrote a story on the event mentioning Innisbrook. We won 4 of the 6 matches but lost in the overall hole by hole points but in the end it was a Win – Win for everyone. Next year the event is invitational only whereas each original participant gets to invite 1 new player to compete at our Innisbrook Resort November 2018, this doubles the field and our friendships!

Labor Day ShambleA long standing Innisbrook tradition was re-introduced for Labor Day. The Labor Day Shamble was played on Labor Day, Monday, September 4 on the Island Golf course. Kyaw Htet the Tournament organizer had this to say: “This event consisted of a mixture between our Members, their guests, and guests of the Resort nearing 100 participants on the Island Golf Course. I think it is safe to say that it was a huge success based on a number of positive comments and feedback I have received before, during, and after the event.”.

We hope to continue the tradition and make it even bigger and better next year.

Tennis at InnisbrookPlease welcome Innisbrook’s new Director of Tennis, Joe MattinglyJoe played his junior tennis in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region. He accepted a full tennis scholarship to Francis Marion University in Florence, SC graduating with a BBA in Marketing/Finance. He later traveled to Australia and throughout the South Pacific teaching at various academies and playing Satellite level tournaments. After which he relocated to the upstate of South Carolina as a Head Professional and Director of Tennis. After a few years Joe started a Tennis Management Company along with a partner and within three years of opening his company had nineteen clubs and forty two pros on staff.

Joe met his wife Diana, which took them back to Maryland for ten years, working as a Director of Tennis at a club in Howard County. It was at this juncture when he was approached by a good friend with the opportunity to build and start a new tennis club on Amelia Island, FL. After three years of building and being in business, the club grew to 130 members, 24 teams, and a strong junior program with over 75 participants. Unfortunately, the club just couldn’t afford to retain Joe as Director of Tennis so Joe decided to look at other opportunities. It wasn’t long after that Joe was snatched up by Innisbrook and a month later he accepted the position as Director of Tennis. Joe and Diane are excited to be here and look forward to engaging with the Members on the courts.

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Dine Well with Executive Chef Thomas McKinney-Stehr

Sweet or SavoryThere’s much more to Oktoberfest than beer. In fact, the Bavarian festival is full of flavorful food choices for anyone wanting to sink their teeth into something sweet or savory. Here is one of my favorites what my Mom always cooked for my Family in October.

“Dampfnudel” literally means steamed noodle, but it’s not as boring as it sounds. The bread dumpling can be eaten as vegetarian main dish with herbs, vegetables and cheese. And you can order another one for dessert, covered in vanilla sauce, hot cherries and melted butter/ Yum!

Dampfnudeln mit Vanillesoße 8 Dumplings

To make the vanilla sauce: add egg yolks to a small bowl. Beat with a hand mixer until thick and creamy.

In a small bowl, whisk together 6 tablespoons milk and cornstarch.

In a small saucepan, whisk together remaining milk and sugar. Scrape in the seeds from the vanilla bean and add the pod. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove the vanilla pods and whisk in the cornstarch and milk. Continue to boil and stir for 2 minutes, until thickened. Remove from heat. Slowly pour a couple of tablespoons of the mixture into the beaten eggs while stirring. Pour the warmed eggs into the pot, stirring constantly, and place over to medium-low heat. Heat until the mixture thickens. Serve warm or refrigerate until chilled.

To make the dumplings: In a large bowl, add flour and make a well in the center. Pour in 1/4 cup of the warm milk and sprinkle with yeast and sugar. Gently stir the yeast into the milk and a small amount of the flour. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes, until the yeast becomes frothy.

Pour in the remaining milk, egg, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix together with your hands and knead until smooth. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place on a lightly floured surface. Cover and let rest for 40 minutes.

In a wide pot or large, deep skillet, combine water and remaining salt. Bring to a boil and add the butter. Once melted, arrange the dough in the pot with 1-2 inches between each ball. Cover with a tight lid and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 20 minutes without removing the lid. Remove lid once all liquid has evaporated and dumplings have a crust on the bottom (there will be a crackling sound). Remove pot from heat and gently take out dumplings.

Serve hot with vanilla sauce and powdered sugar.

Family FunTrick or Treat Tram It’s that time of the year when our younger Members get to drive

around the property in a “spooky” tram and be greeted by friendly staff Members who will have plenty of candy on hand for their visitors. The tram will make 6 stops and will begin running at 5pm from the Osprey Clubhouse. The last tram will leave the Osprey at 6:30pm. The tram stops are Loch Ness pool, the Tennis Center, Island Clubhouse, Salamander spa, the Fitness Center and Packard’s Steakhouse. The Trick or Treat Tram will be on Monday, October 30. Complimentary event.

In addition to the “Trick or Treat Tram” bring the kids to the “Goblin’s Gathering”. The “Goblin’s Gathering” is new to this year’s fall lineup of family activities. Toscana at the Island Clubhouse is the location for the slightly scary to a very scary haunts and will be open from 5 to 8 pm on October 30. The event is complimentary for Members and resort Guests.

What’s new this season! You’ll see from the calendar that a lot of new events have been added for our Member’s enjoyment. • The Chef’s Table is one of the new additions. Executive Chef Thomas McKinney-Stehr will host

and intimate dinner party for 12 people in Edinburgh’s pastry kitchen. The exclusive dinner will be prepared table side and promises to be a gastronomic experience. $99 per person ++

• The popular Wine Dinners will be every other month this year and alternate with The Chef’s Table. Expect the unexpected when our culinary team raises the bar on their collective talents to create an outstanding dining event. $89 per person ++

• Brews & Chews has replaced the Welcome back Oktoberfest. Member families and the local community will come together on Edinburg lawn to enjoy a day of food, fun, activities and of course brews.

• Welcome back and end of Season dinner events are in the works to provide other Member exclusive Club events.

• Four trips to the Straz in Tampa are on the line up along with day trips to the Dali and other venues showcasing all that Tampa Bay has to offer in theatre and culture.

As events are added to the calendar, Members will be updated in the Pipeline and regular communications.
