2nd OSYDA summit celebrates gains

On 3-4 August 2016, members of the 8 Out-of-School Youth Development Alliance (OSYDA) convenedinDavaoCityforthesecondOSYDASummit.Throughthesummit,memberscelebratedtheir accomplishments for the past 11 months and had a chance to have deep conversations about the implementation of the Out-of-School Youth (OSY) development programs.

Thisyear’ssummithighlightedthegoodpracticesandworkingstrategiesbeingimplementedbytheOSYDAs.TheimplementationofOSYdevelopmentprogramsinthepastmonthshaveyieldedgoodpracticesandvaluablelessonswhichcanbecategorizedintheareasof(1)private-public partnership within the context of OSY development, (2) OSY active engagement and empowerment,(3)sustainabilityandinstitutionalizationmechanisms,(4)post-trainingpathwaysfor OSY, and (5) deepening the connection of the OSY development interventions to peace and stabilityofthecommunitiesbeingserved.Theseareessentiallearningpointswhichthemembersconsolidatedandintegratedtoserveasguidesindefiningtheirpriorityagendaforthenext12months.

Mr.PhilipPurnell,ManageroftheEducationalResearchandInnovationOfficeofSEAMEOINNOTECH and Senior Technical Adviser of MYDev, and Ms. Edith Pimentel, Senior Specialist of the Learning and Training Development Unit of SEAMEO INNOTECH, were present in the summit to facilitate some of the discussions. Dr. Ramon C. Bacani, Director of SEAMEO INNOTECH, was also there to support the program.

Leading and Managing an Integrated ECCD Program batch 2

SEAMEO INNOTECH conducted the second batch of the Leading and Managing an Integrated EarlyChildhoodCareandDevelopment(ECCD)Programlast8-12August2016inDavaoCity.The said program is a three-phased program which aims to strengthen the competencies of C/MSWDOstoeffectivelyleadandmanagetheChildDevelopmentCentersinthePhilippines.

Phase1oftheprogram,afive-dayface-to-facelearningcomponentoftheprogram,hasbeensuccessfullyconductedrecently.ThisphaseisdesignedtoenabletheparticipantstotakeacloserlookatthecurrentdeliverysystemofECCDandbroadentheirunderstandingoftheECCDenvironment.

Attheendofthefive-dayprogram,participantswereabletodeveloptheirRe-entryStrategicActionPlanning(RSAP).TheplanswillbeimplementedimmediatelyafterPhase1aspartofPhase 2, a two-month online component of the program. To monitor their progress, participants will report their implementation through the SEAMEO INNOTECH Flexible Learning Management System(iFLEX),theCenter’splatformforflexibleandblendedlearningcourses.TherewillalsobeassignedFlexibleLearningTutorswhowillguidetheparticipantsastheygothroughPhase2.

Phase3oftheprogram,athree-dayintegrationsession,istargetedtohappenonOctoberthisyear,afterthecompletionoftheirstrategicplans.

SEAMEO INNOTECH research on increasing ASEAN integration

TwostafffromtheEducationalResearchandInnovationOffice(ERIO)ofSEAMEOINNOTECHwent to three ASEAN countries to gather data for the ongoing “Regional Research on Increasing ASEAN Integration: The Response Of Southeast Asian Ministries Of Education,”July2016.

The said research aimed to gather cases of the 10 ASEAN countries on how the Ministries of Education respond to the demand and challenges of increasing ASEAN integration. This research willlookintothestatusoftheirintegration,thechallengestheyface,theinnovationstheypioneer,andotherissuesneededtobeaddressed.Theteam,consistingofDr.SherlyneAcostaandMr.LitoErenooftheEducationalResearchUnit,hadthechancetointerviewhighofficialsofeducationfromCambodia,Indonesia,Malaysia,andthePhilippines.

A second round of data gathering is scheduled to happen in August 2016 to visit and interview high educationofficialsinBruneiDarussalam,Thailand,andLaoPDR.

INNOTECH staff plans for the fiscal year

Toformallystartthe9thFive-yearDevelopmentplan(FYDP),SEAMEOINNOTECHstaffconducteditsannualoperationsplanworkshopon15-16August2016.Officemanagers,unitheadsandselectedstaffparticipatedinthesaidplanningandtargetsettingactivityandpresentedaccomplishmentsofthepreviousfiscalyear(FY).

SomeofthemajorplansoftheCenterfortheyearincludeactivitiesforthetransitiontotheISO9001:2015standards,technologyinfrastructureinitiatives,certificateprogramsforschoolheads,academicassistanceprogramforCenterstaff,reviewofmodulestoalignwiththecompetencyframework, and research and knowledge products dissemination.

ThisyearisSEAMEOINNOTECH’sfirstimplementationyearforthe9thFYDP.Activitiesandinitiatives have been lined up to achieve its set goals towards the accomplishment of its vision to provide a better future for every learner in Southeast Asia.

INNOTECH staff finalizes research and knowledge products dissemination plan

On23August2016,selectedstaffandpartnersfromSEAMEOINNOTECHofficesgatheredforaone-dayworkshoptofinalizetheResearchandKnowledgeProductsDisseminationPlan.Continuingfromthecategoriesandindicatorsofimpactagreedonthefirstdisseminationworkshop,participatingstafffinalizedtheplanwithspecificmeasures,targetaudience,actions,and timeframe.

Aspartofthenextsteps,eachofficeistaskedtostrengthentheirinternaldisseminationsystemsandprocesses.Concernedunitsandofficesmustalsoaligntheircurrentoperationsplantothe dissemination matrix developed during the workshop. Monitoring and evaluation of the Center’sprogressindisseminatingitsknowledgeandresearchproductswillbeconductedinthesucceeding Midterm Review and planning exercises of the Center.

SEAMEO INNOTECH General Assembly and Sports Fest

On 8 August 2016, staff and partners of SEAMEO INNOTECH gathered for its annual General Assembly.Dr.RamonC.BacaniprovidedupdatesregardingtheCenter’saccomplishmentsfortheFiscalYear2015-2016,aswellasnewtargetsforthecurrentfiscalyearincludingresultsoftherecent ISO surveillance audit, and upcoming programs and events. Outstanding staff members andselectedcommitteeswererecognizedduringtheassemblyfortheireffortsandsignificantcontributions to the Center.

ConcurrenttotheeventwastheCenter’sannualSportsFestwheretheCenterstaffandpartnersplayedlocalFilipinogames.Thethemeoftheactivitywas“GamesofourHeritage”whichwasfacilitatedbyMagnaKulturaFoundation,Incorporated.Again,theactivityhasproventhatCenter’steamwork,camaraderieandunityamidstchallengesandrigoroustasksanddeliverables.
