Watch out for the Bouncers at LBT!

Funding for Kirklees voluntary groups

The John Godber Company and

Theatre Royal Wakefield present

BOUNCERS

Monday 9 – Wednesday 11 February,

7.30pm at the Lawrence Batley

Theatre

Lucky Eric, Judd, Les and Ralph are the

original men in black, portraying an

astonishing range of characters over

the course of one eventful night in a

Yorkshire disco in the 80s. All the gang

are out on the town: the boys, the girls,

the cheesy DJ, the late night kebab man

and the taxi home, all under the

watchful eyes of the bouncers.

Directed by its writer John Godber and

featuring a frightening array of

northern talent, the definitive produc-

tion of this multi award-winning hit

comedy follows 2014’s successful

revival of Teechers to the LBT stage.

Sad, hilarious and full of humanity,

BOUNCERS won the Los Angeles Drama

Critics’ Circle Award an amazing seven

times, and was named as one of the

top 100 plays of the 20th century by

the National Theatre.

Huddersfield Town Centre Partnership

members are entitled to tickets for

BOUNCERS for just £12, saving up to £4

a ticket.

Local Democracy for Everyone is a series of free events in Huddersfield for anyone who is interested in local democracy. The Events in Huddersfield are running from 5th to 7th February 2015

PechaKucha Friday 6th February 2015 7pm to 8pm

Venue: Café Ollo, The Media Centre, Northumberland Street, Huddersfield

Join the PechaKucha Night from 7pm to 8pm at The Media Centre in Hudders-field to hear about people’s passions and interests – or share your own. Each speaker will talk for 6 minutes 40 sec-onds each, following a “20 slides for 20 seconds” format. The evening includes some of our local democratic history. Free admission. Licensed bar. Everyone welcome. This event is being run in col-laboration with The Media Centre.

Radical Heritage Trail—Saturday 7th February 2015 1.30pm to 3.30pm

Venue: Meeting at the Harold Wilson statue in St. George’s Square, Huddersfield

Discover Huddersfield’s rich heritage of radical politics in this free guided walk.

Starting from the Harold Wilson statue in St George’s Square, this free guided trail will visit town centre sites that are associated with the Luddites, Chartists, the early days of the Labour Party, the anti-war movement during World War One and lots more. The walk will be led by Cyril Pearce, author of ‘Comrades in Conscience’ which tells the story of

Huddersfield’s conscientious objectors, whose opposition to the Great War earned Huddersfield the reputation of being 'a hotbed of pacifism'.

The walk will last up to two hours and you’ll have an opportunity to drop in to the Media Centre at the end for a hot drink and to see the conclusion of the “We’re not in Westminster any more” event which will bring together advo-cates for redesigning local democracy.

This event is being run in collaboration with Discover Huddersfield and Huddersfield Local History Society.

Democracy of Print Saturday 7th February 2015

10am to 12 noon & 1pm to 3pm

Venue: The Media Centre lobby, Northumberland Street, Huddersfield

Join in making a printed banner inspired by Huddersfield’s radical heritage. From the Luddites and the Chartists to the present day, printmaking has played an important part in the development of democracy. Now it’s your turn!

Local artist Amy Hirst will be helping LD4E to make a

printed banner to capture the conversations about local democracy as part of the “We’re not in Westminster” conference on 7th February. You can drop in to add yourself to the banner and make your own campaign badge to take home.

National Voter Registration Day—5th &

7th February 2015

The Local Democracy for Everyone events are happening in the same week as National Voter Registration Day. Many local organisations are campaign-ing to get people registered to vote this week – especially younger people who are mas-sively under-represented on the electoral register.

You can drop in to register to vote at many venues across Kirklees on Thursday 5th Febru-ary, including at Kirklees Libraries (it’s late night opening in Huddersfield), at Customer Service Centres and at a spe-cial mobile hub outside Huddersfield Bus Station. Or visit the elections out-reach team in the lobby of

The Media Centre on Saturday 7th Feb-ruary, from 10am to 12 noon & 1pm to 3pm.

Members news Member of the Month…..

Member of the Month is here again!

This month we are happy to introduce

to you Denis St Louis, Founder & CEO

of the Charity My Mothers Love

Please provide a sentence about your

organisation?

The charity aims to unite young people

from around the world to work

together in local community projects to

improve all aspects of their

environment, and to make a positive

difference in the world by inspiring

personal growth and respect for our

shared humanity.

1. Why did you join the partnership?

To assist the partnership in achieving its

development goals, to develop new and

creative initiatives and strategies to

differentiate Huddersfield from any

other town in Yorkshire, and to position

it as an attractive location to visit or as

a base for individuals and industry.

2. What are your aspirations for 2015?

To develop on my successes of 2014!

3. Give three words to describe your

charity?

Innovative. Unique and Growing!

4. Give us three words about yourself?

Passionate. Dedicated and Happy!

5. What do you think are the main

challenges for a new charity/

community project?

Gaining the support of the local

community.

6. What was your proudest

moment of 2014?

Just before Christmas when I asked

the participants of the weekend

programme that we run for the

charity, to let me know what it is that

they disliked about the programme,

and not one of them had a negative

comment to make. This made me feel

proud as it is our first year of running

this platform it shows that we are on

the right track, and that they partici-

pants appreciate our efforts to inspire,

develop and enhance difference areas

of their lives.

7. Have you ever met anyone famous,

please tell us about it (keep it short)?

I was very fortunate to meet

Muhammad Ali in Louisville Kentucky in

2004, and some of his views and core

values for people and life are engrained

in the ethos and vision of the charity.

8. If you could pass on one single piece

of advice to a budding entrepreneur

what would it be?

Never give up!

9. If you could live anywhere in the

world where would it be?

I would have to visit everywhere first

before I could answer that question. :-)

10. If you could give the Partnership

some advice what would it be?

Develop local. Think global!

The aim is to further support crime

prevention efforts by providing retailers,

businesses, pubs and clubs with

information about criminal activity in the

town.

This software delivers criminal

intelligence and information to

businesses in the town centre in real

time. Members can also view galleries

of individuals that are engaged in crime

and anti-social behaviour in the town.

The new intranet can also be used to

newsletter with crime alerts and

information of benefit to businesses.

says, it is a great tool that businesses can

use to protect their business and staff

against loss prevention and antisocial

behaviour. We are excited about the apps

official launch, in order that we can

support the police in tackling and

reducing crime in our town centre.

Sgt Mandy Mellor said, we are excited

that we are utilising this technology in

aiding us in preventing and detecting

crime, ASB and bringing offenders to

justice. We have witnessed how the app

benefits retailers and

businesses in other

cities and recognise

the value of it for our

town. We are so

pleased to be working

with the Partnership

on this initiative and

hope that retailers and businesses sign

up to the scheme.
