IGAMeet Chris and Brenda Dearaugo. The couple has given the
IGA at Portside Wharf a revamp, since taking the helm of the store last May, with a range of convenient options to suit the diverse mix of visitors and residents to Portside Wharf.
“We’ve employed a full time deli manager to reignite the deli and take away food section of the store,” said Mr Dearaugo.
“Given our location, we literally cater for people from all walks of life. Some of the requests we get in here are very unusual for a supermarket – everything from hair straighteners to make-up – and within reason we accommodate.
“We have a new fruit and vegetable supplier on board, which sources all of our fresh produce from the markets, and have introduced a range of gourmet products, such as a variety of cheeses, to suit our regular customers and residents of the precinct.
“The diverse product mix makes us one of the most unique supermarkets around, but we are all about offering convenience to our customers.”
Mr Dearaugo said the business had become a family affair, with the couple’s 21 year old daughter Kirsty-Lee and 18 year old son Joshua working with them part-time while studying at university, and their 11 year old Phoebe also occasionally lending a helping hand.
“The staff we have on board are fantastic,” he said.
“It is a great team environment and I think that’s reflected in the improved service being offered to our customers.”

INVESTMENT
Proximity to the CBD, public transport and
retail and entertainment have topped the list as the
key location drivers for investors, a new investment
survey by Place Advisory has revealed.
The Place Advisory report found 68 per cent of
respondents nominated a location close to the CBD,
followed by public transport at 59 per cent, and
retail and entertainment at 52 per cent, as their top
priorities.
“Traditionally, buyers have looked for a location close
to the city centre, due to the convenience to work,
and close to public transport, for a similar reason,”
said Place Advisory researcher Lachlan Walker.
“However, we are finding proximity to lifestyle
amenities is becoming increasingly important, with
an additional 30 per cent of respondents pinpointing
it as a key locational driver when compared with the
results from our 2010 survey.
“Investors see a location above shops, bars,
restaurants and cafes as a plus in both finding, and
keeping, tenants and in achieving solid rental returns.
“At the same time, if they are considering the
apartment as an investment now, but a place they
may eventually call home, being close to these
amenities means they themselves could benefit from
the lifestyle that comes with that too.”
