EDITORIAL
Dear customers, dear partners,
The last few weeks have been shaped by bad
weather and dramatic news reports about the
flooding catastrophies in North Rhine-West-
phalia and Bavaria. Our sympathies go to those
affected by the floods! It was also bad news for
our swimming pool industry.
Now we‘re all hoping that following the rain
a lasting sunny period will get the swimming
pool market going again and that the Euro 2016,
together with some great barbecuing weather,
will create a positive atmosphere.
If the predictions are true, July and August
should at least bring us some sunny weather and Photo: Tanja Bolte
lead us to long for the refreshingly cool water
in our garden.
Our warehouse is packed full and our staff
are highly motivated! Nothing will stand in
the way of a good season for us.
I hope that we will have a successful Euro
2016 with high spirits and lots of sunshine!
Yours, Armin Herger

SPECK PUMPS SOUTH AFRICA
SPECK Pumpen at the southernmost tip of AfricaSouth Africa‘s average temperature in summer lies at 28 °C with temperatures as high as 48 °C possible. Here, having a pool is simply a necessity and an absolute pleasure on long, sunny days!
Since the end of apartheid South Africa has reported constant economic growth. With a well-developed financial market, tourism is one of the fastest growing areas in this threshold nation. South Africa is a pioneer and global market leader in sustainable tourism. SPECK Pumpen has been responding to this development locally for almost 45 years.
SPECK Pumps South Africa is broadly positioned.
The country‘s nine provinces are supervised
by five offices. Logistics are the reason for the
decentralised structure, along with the direct
supply of products, spare parts and services to
customers locally.
SPECK Pumps South Africa (Pty) Ltd. has its
headquarters and production site in Johannes-
burg. Three branch offices are supplied from
Johannesburg: Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.
SPECK Pumps South Africa also exports to Africa,
Swaziland, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique,
the Seychelles, Comoro, Reunion, Madagascar
and Australia.
In South Africa SPECK Pumps deliver to whole-
salers, specialist swimming pool retailers and
swimming pool builders. Customer consultations

are aslo part of the daily business. Managing
Director, Roderick Westwood explains “We
focus completely on the swimming pool market,
both in the private and public sectors, including
whirlpools and spas.” The company gener-
ates approximately 83 % of its profits from
swimming pool technology, 10 % from whirl-
pools and spas and the rest from koi ponds and
water features.
SPECK PUMPS SOUTH AFRICA
“South Africa is very diverse in its experienc-
es, landscape and wildlife. Our offer is exactly
the same. We don‘t only supply our custom-
ers with pumps, but also with equipment for
the whole pool.” The pump series BADU Picco,
BADU Magic, BADU Purpoise, BADU Eco Touch-
Pro and B 45 are produced in South Africa as
well as the filter series BADU Aquaswim and the
chlorinator BADU Logic. Various BADUJET units
and the BADU Resort pump series are imported
from Germany.
The topsellers are divided among the regions.
The price counts most of all in the tough but
beautiful and vivacious area surrounding Johan-
nesburg. The people of Durban put a lot of value
on the room for negotiation. The people of Cape
Town enjoy a quality of life that most Europeans
envy: surfing, sailing, biking, 300 year old vine-
yards and some of the most beautiful beaches in
the world. Here longevity, quality and efficiency
are what count. Products with a five year guaran-
tee and those from the BADU GREEN range are
particularly popular.
At the moment the energy costs in South Africa
are climbing steeply. The inhabitants are trying
to save and are becoming more and more energy
conscious. The home of a family in Cape Town
was given a sustainable makeover as part of the
project “my green home”. The effects were docu-
mented over a period of six months and publised
for the public. The BADU Eco Touch-Pro was also
installed here.
“Speck Pumps was and always will be the mar-
ket leader in Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands.
This is down to our innovation, the high quality
and large variety of products, our excellent ser-
vice and the availability of spare parts,” the Man-
aging Director describes the company’s position
on the continent.
This success story started in 1969 on a plane
journey between South Africa and Germany. The
owner of SPECK Pumpen Verlaufsgesellschaft
GmbH, Willy Speck, got to know the man sat next
to him, Helmut Menke. He was involved in ex-
port finance and granite trading. Willy Speck told
Menke about his aim to sell 500 pumps in South
Africa. Menke then ordered 100 pumps which he
sold from the offices of his granite export com-
pany. He suspected greater sales opportunities
and developed the idea of founding a company.
This company was registered in Johannesburg
on 30 September 1971 under the name “SPECK
Non-Corrosive Pool Equipment (Pty) Ltd.” The
founders of the company were Willy Speck and
Volker Schulz, Helmut Menke‘s auditor.
Today the company is in the hands of Hermann
Speck, Volker Schulz and the Managing Director
Roderick Westwood. The company is managed by
Roderick Westwood, the Chief Operating Officer
Oelrich du Troit, the Marketing Manager Lize
Westwood and the Sales Manager Amor Strauss.
They currently employ 34 members of staff and
employ a further 10 to 20 casual workers for six
months during high season.

TRADE FAIRS
New products on the road to success
SPECK Pumpen‘s product developments re-ceived great interest at two well-visited tade fairs in Nuremberg and Munich as well as the bathing congress in Bremerhaven. They hit the nail on the head in terms of the market and the timing and they set new trends.
IFH/Intherm | Nuremberg . Trade fair for
sanitation, heating, air conditioning and renew-
able energies
With over 42,000 visitors the IFH/Intherm was
a great success. The head of sales for domestic
and industrial technology, Andreas Politaj, no-
ticed a large increase in the number of decision
makers present. As well as mkaing many new
contacts in the specialist field, interesting indus-
trial projects were also discussed.
“The trend is more towards energy optimisation.
Here we are at the forefront with innovative
products that fulfill the economic design regu-
lation 2009/125/EG.” As well as new products
such as the SUPS 3 borehole pump, the ZISMATIC
cistern pump and the BN 10 A energy-optimised
process water pump, the booster units and
heating circulation pumps were the focus of
the visitors.
SPECK Pumpen‘s innovative power impressed at the trade events in spring.
IFAT | Munich . World‘s leading tade fair
for water, sewage, waste and raw materials
management
Following a long break SPECK Pumpen appeared
at the IFAT in Munich once again and it was
a great sucess. “We were able to greet many
existing customers at our stand. We made
interesting new contacts via our chemically
resistant sewage water pumps as well as our
staged centrifugal pumps,” Andreas Politaj
summarised. “We will definitely be at the next
IFAT.” The trade fair welcomed 138,000 visitors
from 170 countries.
SPECK Pumpen offers various pumps suitable
for sewage water and their compositions. As
well as self-priming, magnetic coupled BC pumps,
the new Normblock Multi and BADU Block Multi
attracted attention. Due to their cost-effective-
ness and corossion resistance the circulation
pumps made completely from plastic are the
perfect solution for handling many industrial
waste waters with chemical content.
International bathing congress | Bremerhaven . The international academy for bathing, sport and
leisure facilities in Germany
We were the ony pump manufacturer among
numerous exhibitors. The new pump series BADU
Block Multi and Normblock Multi attacted great
interest from the visitors - mainly pool opera-
tors- “We are the first and only manufacturer
to offer pumps of this size made completely
from plastic for public swimming pool technol-
ogy. Such pumps are normally only made from
cast iron.” The key account manager for public
swimming pools, Frank Kramer, explained the
benefits in detail to a specialist audience in
a presentation.
The choice of event location was also interest-
ing: the Klimahaus Bremerhaven welcomes its
guests to take a trip around the world. Differ-
ent climate zones can be experienced live in
each room. SPECK pumps are also used for water
treatment in this world of experience.

SPECK PUMPEN SOUTHERN BAVARIA
Munich branch office
New office with a new lookSPECK Pumpen has been represented in Munich
since the beginning of the 60s. Since 1987 they
have been in the neighbourhood Perlach. It was
time to modernise the office and that‘s when the
residential location came into question. Whilst
looking for a modern premises in a professional
area we came across the Ikarus Industrial estate
in Puchheim.
18 km west of the centre of Munich and in close
proximity to the motorway ring road and train
line, Puchheim offers an optimal infrastructure.
The modern architecture gives our branch of-
fice an appearence fitting of our company. The
gardens on the industrial estate create an agree-
able working atmosphere.
The branch office in the Bavarian capital has experienced some changes. It has moved to Puchheim and Roswitha Hermann has retired after 44 years.
Work officially started here at the end of April.
The offices are light with modern facilities and
high performance data links. Individual offices,
a meeting room and sufficient car parking provide
comfort for staff and customers.
The pump warehouse was abolished during
the move as the short delivery times and relia-
ble order processing at the headquarters made
this redundant. As always spare parts are kept
in stock to ensure uncomplicated and direct
customer service.
Farewell after 44 yearsRoswitha Hermann, who refers to herself as a
great all-rounder, helped organise the move.
She took care of closing down the old office and
worked for a few days at the new location. She
went into retirement on 19 May.
She accompanied the constant development of
the product range since 1972 and grew with the
changes to office and communication technolo-
gy. “It’s the connection to people that enriches
our lives and work!” Full of joy she reminisced
about a bunch of flowers given to her as a thank
you from a customer after having solved a prob-
lem promptly. Good contact with customers
and a friendly team always spurred her to make
possible those things that seemed impossible.
Roswitha Hermann bade farewell giving
thanks to her colleagues. The branch manager,
Andreas Rohrmüller, thanked her for her reliable
work - above all as “office memory” - and wished
her all the best for her retirement with many
great and accident-free motorbike rides with
her husband. Andreas Rohrmüller and Andreas
Erhard are looking for a sales representative
to maintain the team‘s optimal position in
Southern Bavaria.

BOREHOLE PUMPS
New SUPS 3 borehole pump
Borehole pumps from the SUPS
range are designed for irrigation,
water supply and rain water us-
age as well as for well systems.
Made completely from corrosion
resistant stainless steel, they
have a long operating life and high
efficiency. The strong material al-
lows for a high sand content of
max. 150 gr/m³.
The pumps are maintenance-free,
inspections are not necessary. The
built in non-return valve and inte-
grated dry run protection provide
high operational security.
With a diameter of 76 mm (3“), the
SUPS 3 also fits in small drilled wells.
A fixed speed motor with integrated
frequency converter and smooth
start prevents pressure surges. Even
small construction sizes reach high
flow rates thanks to the increased
motor speed.
SPECK Pumpen also offers the
SUPS 3 in a complete saver package:
the irrigation packages SUPS 3-2-40
and SUPS 3-3-45 are delivered with
the cable, cable clips, SPECKMAT 1
switching device and an 18 l dia-
phragm pressure vessel.

He who works must also eat ...The SPECK Pumpen cantine is very popular – the new extension was unveiled in March
football. This was a big surprise at
the unveiling of the new cantine and
will mean that the lunch break will
often fly by. The cantine is also a
social meeting point for colleagues
from different departments.
The new kitchen is equipped com-

TECHNOLOGYThe BADU repair ser-
vice helps – even in the
most difficult cases
Pages 7 and 8
Uncomplicated help – the BADU repair serviceSometimes we‘re surprised to learn just how old our BADU pumps are and our customers are surprised at how easily we can still repair them.
Four years ago the Dotzler family bought a house and the young family was over the moon that it had an outdoor pool. The house and pool were just 12 years old. The pool operation was explained. However, just before a holiday, the pump started to leak and help was urgently needed. Of course SPECK Pumpen came to the rescue. To every-one‘s surprise the pump was a BADU 40/10 dating back to 1977!
BADU INSIDE You bought a house with a pool. Had you had your own pool before?Dotzler family > No, we hadn‘t had a pool before.
Of course we really liked the pool and it made
this property a lot more interesting compared
to others.
Who explained the pool technology to you?> The previous owner had bought the house
six years before us. He explained the essentials
of the swimming pool operation, the rest was
learning by doing.
What happened in May 2015?> A few days after our spring clean and the
recommissioning of the pool we noticed a puddle
in the utility room. The swimming pool circula-
tion pump was losing water. The situation didn‘t
improve and our holiday was getting closer.
Did you ask your swimming pool builder for advice?> Niether we nor the previous owner had a
swimming pool builder who regularly monitored
the unit. Our plumber turned the pump off and
dismantled it. We asked SPECK Pumpen what we
should do. Seeing as we live close to Neunkirchen,
they told us to bring the pump in and their service
department would look at it.
What happened next?> When we took the pump in, the workshop
manager laughed and said that the pump was
prehistoric after reading the construction year
1977 on the name plate. We were told about
the advantages of a new circulation pump and
of course repair possibilities were suggested.
Relaxing in the pool isn‘t a problem when you have a reliable partner. Photo: Dotzler family

DIALOGUE …
After all only a few sealing parts were worn. We
would have liked to take our time to consider a
new pump but due to our upcoming holiday we
decided to have the pump repaired. We were
able to collect the pump the next day, our tech-
nician installed it and since then everything has
been running soundly.
How happy were you with the service from SPECK Pumpen?> Very! The fast reaction time allowed us to go
on holiday without a worry. We were advised
of the advantages of a new pump without being
made to feel as though we were being pushed
into buying one. We were positively surprised that
spare parts were still available for this dinosaur,
the repair was trouble-free and that as a private
customer in a large company we were helped
without any questions.
How did it come about that a circulation pump from 1977 was found in a house built in 1999?> We don‘t really have an answer to this
question. One year previous we had wanted to
buy new bulbs for the underwater lighting in
the pool. We learnt that these haven‘t been
produced for over 25 years. We assume that the
builder bought old stock in order to save
money. We are just so lucky that the BADU pump
still works reliably after so many years.
Our neighbours explained that the builder
did a lot of the work himself, probably
even installing the swimming pool technology.
There is no documentation at all.
How are things going to proceed with your circulation pump over the long term?> We will definitely invest in a new circulation
pump. It sometimes turns our stomach when
we receive our electricity bill. Since the incident
last year we suspect it is the swimming pool
pump that is guzzling power. SPECK Pumpen
offers the possibilitiy to check this via an app.
However we would like to consider further
options regarding swimming pool technology
and take sensible measures together with a
professional swimming pool builder.
Will you choose a BADU pump from SPECK?> Absolutely! We haven‘t even considered
other manufacturers. We have no reason
to look elsewhere considering the uncom-
plicated service and the quality of our
present pump.
