For the first time in three years, Oklahoma will face instate rival Oklahoma State on its home field when the two teams clash for the 107th installment of the Bedlam series at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Norman.
OU leads the overall series with a 82-17-7 record, including a 47-10-2 edge on Owen Field.
OU is coming off a nail-biting 50-49 win against West Virginia on Saturday in Morgantown.
Senior quarterback Landry Jones threw for a program-high 554 yards while tying a personal-best six touchdowns, including the game-clenching scoring pass to junior wide receiver Kenny Stills with just 27 seconds left in the game.
Junior w ide receiver Jalen S a u n d e r s f i n i s h e d w i t h 1 2 3 receiving yards, and senior wide receiver Justin Brown finished with 113 yards in the game to become the first duo to finish with 100-plus yard performances since Stills (101 yards) and former Sooner Ryan Broyles (171 yards) did against Kansas State in 2011.
Although it was the first win c o l l e c t e d by t h e S o o n e r s i n Morgantown, OU gave up an alarming 778 yards on defense, the most ever allowed by a Sooner team in the program’s history.
OU couldn’t contain the run, allowing 458 total yards on the ground. Senior flex playmaker Tavon Austin, who normally lines up as a wide receiver, spearheaded the Mountaineers’ attack with 3 4 4 y a r d s a n d t w o r u s h i n g touchdowns.

Oklahoma divided: BedlamSooners look to finish strong against recovering instate rival Cowboys
Cowboys stymied Texas Tech, 59-21, blocking a pair of punts and getting three touchdown passes from quarterback Clint Chelf.
Chelf, in just his second career start, has emerged as a strong option for the Cowboys after starting the season as their third-string quarterback.
His number was called after freshmen Wes Lunt and J.W. Walsh suffered injuries.

OSU also maintained its balance on offense, rushing for 256 yards and three scores while accounting for 231 yards and four touchdowns through the air against the Red Raiders.
And the Cowboys also have momentum from last season’s B e d l a m g a m e i n t h e i r b a c k pocket.
Last year, OSU needed a win against the Sooners in order to win its first conference championship. The Cowboys got that and more when the team ignited for almost a five-touchdown win against OU, who had won eight straight Bedlam bouts prior to last season’s 44-10 loss in Stillwater.
OSU outgained the Sooners on the ground, rushing for 278 total yards, including a 19-carry, 151-yard game by current senior running back Joseph Randle, who accounted for two of the Cowboys’ four total rushing touchdowns in the game.
OU also was crippled by the turnover margin, giving up five takeaways — including a fumble recover y for a touchdown — while punting eight times against a Cowboy defense that went into the game giving up an average of 453 yards per game.
The Sooners never could find an offensive answer in last year’s meeting, punting and giving up two turnovers during the first seven possessions before settling for a field goal just before halftime, the only points for the Sooners until backup quarterback Blake Bell punched in OU’s only touchdown of the game with 4:16 left in the fourth quarter.
The Bedlam matchup als o will be the last home game for the Sooners this season. OU will honor the 21 seniors on its roster before kickoff.

No other holiday is more synonymous with sports than Thanksgiving, and
no other sport is more prominent on the fourth Thursday of November than football.
Whether it’s college or the NFL, football has cemented itself in the Thanksgiving Day (and weekend) experience. It’s become as much a part of the holiday as turkey, cranberry sauce, dressing or naps — just look at Thursday’s slate of games: Texans at Lions, Redskins at Cowboys, Patriots at Jets and TCU at Texas.
But as big as football is during the holiday season, most people watch the games on TV with their families, not from the bleachers inside the stadiums.
And this Thanksgiving, things won’t be much different.
When Oklahoma State makes the trip Saturday down Interstate 35 to Norman, don’t expect OU’s student section to be at full force.
From what I’ve gathered by
looking at my Facebook newsfeed, OU’s population of Texas students will be heading back to the Lone Star State for the holidays. And even though the game isn’t until Saturday — two days after Thanksgiving — most won’t be returning in time for Bedlam.
It’s a shame, really, that such a huge rivalry game has to be hamstringed by a holiday weekend, but that isn’t much of an excuse to miss this one.
Is it really too much to ask for students to return to Norman one day early?
This shouldn’t be like pulling teeth. This is Bedlam — it’s kind of a big deal. Other than the Red River Rivalry, Bedlam is the biggest recurring game of the season for the Sooners.
And with OSU coming off a 59-21 walloping of then-No. 23 Texas Tech, the Pokes will come into Norman with enough confidence to keep them in at least one half of football. And who knows — the Cowboys might even spring an upset on the Sooners.
Maybe Bedlam isn’t a big deal for Texas kids since the rivalry didn’t cross the Red River and permeate into Texas or because they didn’t see this state split into the colors of autumn —crimson and orange — every November.
But they should care. This year’s

matchup is more heated than usual for both parties involved and all but guarantees an exciting game.
Because of conference realignment-influenced schedule changes, it’s been three years since OU last played the Cowboys in Norman, and with the result of last season’s game, the Sooners should be fired up for this one.
Same goes for the other side. After ending its eight-game
losing streak in the series last season, OSU will have the opportunity to claim back-to-back victories against OU for the first time since 2002 — when the Les Miles-led Cowboys topped the Sooners in Stillwater, 38-28, and extinguished OU’s national title aspirations.
Come Saturday, it’s Bedlam in Norman. You know the players will
bring their A game. Let’s hope the fans show up with
the same intensity — keywords being “show up.”

When Oklahoma State senior Cooper Bassett was growing up, the Tuttle native said he had a particular scenario he repeatedly replayed in his backyard.
“Growing up an OSU fan, we were always getting beat up on by OU throughout my life,” Bassett said. “Every time I was in the backyard, it was the Bedlam game with three seconds left and my little brother would throw me the game-winning pass.”
Although Cooper — as one of the defensive linemen on OSU’s starting lineup — had to trade in his dreams of being the final offensive playmaker to learn how to stuff opponent’s rushing games, his desire to thwart the instate rival went unquenched.
At least until last year’s Bedlam matchup, when the Cowboys thumped OU, 44-10, in front of a hostile crowd in Stillwater.
“For me personally, the Bedlam win was great,” Bassett said. “You couldn’t have written it better to have everyone rush the field and my family being there when we won our first Big 12 championship over OU.”
No matter what the overall records are for either team, the annual Bedlam football game that pits Oklahoma State against its instate rival Oklahoma is always a highlight of the Cowboy’s season. But last year’s victory was the second-biggest margin of victory for OSU in the series, and the win allowed the Cowboys to tab the program’s first Big 12 conference championship.

series, making OSU’s victory a feat the team hasn’t soon forgotten.
Dur ing Big 12 me dia days this summer, all three of OSU’s attending players were asked which win was bigger last year: the Fiesta Bowl victory over Stanford or the win over OU. And all three — Cooper included — spent time talking about how special it was to take down the Sooners.
“Both wins were big because we both worked hard for them,” junior running back Joseph Randle said. “But I loved beating OU.”
It was the first time anyone on this OSU team had topped OU in their college careers, a feeling the current seniors said was a long time coming.
“It was an awesome feeling,” senior offensive lineman Lane Taylor said. “We’ve always kind of been the little brother of OU. My first year, they pounded us, and then we’ve had a close one, so it felt good to finally beat them.”
And last season’s beatdown also changed the scoring margin for OSU’s current senior class.
OU previously outscored the Cowboys, 71-41, going into the 2011 meeting. But OSU’s 34-point win completely eliminated that margin, giving the Cowboys a 85-84 scoring edge for the past three matchups going into this year’s game.

And with that honor still up for grabs following the rout against
Texas Tech last Saturday, the Cowboys said they aren’t going to let last year’s Bedlam success hinder their performances this weekend.
“ T h e b a d t h i n g a b o u t momentum is it can make people become complacent,” Bassett
said. “Last year was so amazing, but that was last season, and all of the seniors this year want to have the same lasting impression on this season as they did last year.”

Maryland and Rutgers leaving conferences, heading to Big Ten
NEW YORK — Maryland is joining the Big Ten.Maryland will become member of the Big Ten starting
in 2014. Rutgers is expected follow suit but hadn’t as of press time, splitting from the Big East and making it an even 14 schools in the Big Ten.
In the world of conference realignment, Maryland’s departure from the ACC qualifies as a shocker. The Terrapins were a charter member of the ACC, which was founded in 1953.
There was speculation last week that the Big Ten and Maryland were talking. On Saturday, it became clear the discussions were serious.
The addition of Maryland extends the Big Ten farther east and south than it ever has been, and gives the confer-ence a presence in the major media market of Washington. D.C.
Rutgers, in New Brunswick, N.J., and about 40 miles south of New York City, gives the Big Ten a member in the country’s largest media market.
For both schools, the move should come with a long-term financial gain. The Big Ten reportedly paid its mem-bers $24.6 million in shared television and media rights revenues this year.
There will be some financial matters to resolve in the short term though. After the ACC added Notre Dame as a member in all sports but football and hockey in September, the league voted to raise the exit fee to $50 million. Maryland was one of two schools that voted against the increased exit fee.
The Big East’s exit fee is $10 million, but the league also requires a 27-month notification period for departing members. That means Rutgers will not be able to join the Big ten until 2015 without working out some kind of deal with the Big East.
Syracuse, Pittsburgh and West Virginia have all negoti-ated early withdrawals from the Big East in the past year.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant is determined to become known as more than a one-dimensional player.
Durant notched his first career triple-double with 25 points, 13 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists, and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Golden State Warriors 119-109.
“I really didn’t care, to be honest. If it came, then that’s cool. If it didn’t, then just keep playing,” Durant said. “It feels good to get one. Now, I guess I’ve got a little mon-key off my back. I can just go out there and play.
Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 22 points, and David Lee chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds.

No. 1 Notre Dame stayed undefeated with an uncharacteristically easy victory at home and then had the rest of the night to watch as the teams in front of it in the national championship race lost.
The Fighting Irish hammered Wake Forest 38-0 on senior day Saturday in South Bend, Ind.
Then things got really good for the Irish — and Alabama, Georgia, Florida and maybe even Florida State.
Former No. 2 Oregon lost 17-14 at home in overtime to Stanford. Down in Texas, Baylor blasted former No. 1 Kansas State, 52-24, in Waco.
On Sunday, Notre Dame was named the No. 1 team in the nation. Alabama, which lost two weeks ago to Texas A&M and shut out FCS doormat Western Carolina on Saturday, came in at No. 2, followed by SEC teams Georgia and Florida.

WACO — Glasco Martin ran for three touchdowns, Lache Seastrunk had 185 yards rushing with an 80-yard score and Baylor again upset the BCS picture with a late-season victory.
Collin Klein may be a Heisman Trophy front-runner no more after throwing three interceptions while being pressured and harassed all night by Baylor (5-5, 2-5). He threw for 286 yards, but had only 39 yards on 17 carries for Kansas State (10-1, 7-1 Big 12).
Nick Florence, the successor to Heisman winner Robert Griffin III, threw both of his touchdowns in the first half when the Bears jumped out to a 28-7 lead.
On the same November weekend last season, Baylor upset then fifth-ranked Oklahoma after two teams ahead of the Sooners had already lost that day.

EUGENE, Ore. — Jordan Williamson hit a 37-yard field goal in overtime and Stanford upset Oregon, denying the Ducks a chance to clinch the Pac-12 North and derailing their straight shot at the BCS championship game.
If Stanford and Oregon finish with wins in their final games next weekend, both will finish with one conference loss, which means Stanford will win the head-to-head matchup and go to the Pac-12 championship game for a chance to play in the Rose Bowl.
Stanford (9-2, 7-1) will visit No. 17 UCLA, which defeated then-No. 18 USC, 32-29, to claim the Pac-12 South. Oregon (10-1, 7-1) will play rival Oregon State in the annual Civil War rivalry game in Corvallis.
The loss snapped a 13-game winning streak for the Ducks, the longest active streak in the nation.

The Fighting Irish improved to 11-0 for the first time since 1989 and need to beat Southern California to finish a regular season undefeated for the first time since 1988, the last time they won a national championship.
The Demon Deacons (5-6) fell to 1-33 all-time against top-five teams, their lone win coming against No. 4 Tennessee in 1946.
The victory virtually assured the Irish of a berth in a BCS game after No. 1 Kansas State and No. 2 Oregon fell later in the day Saturday to open up the Irish’s path to the title game.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Eddie Lacy rushed for three first-half touchdowns and AJ McCarron set Alabama's single-season record for passing TDs.
The Crimson Tide (10-1) rebounded from a loss to No. 9 Texas A&M by building a 42-0 halftime lead against the Catamounts (1-10), a Football Championship Subdivision team with two wins in as many seasons.
It was Alabama's third shutout of the season.
McCarron completed all six of his attempts for 133 yards and his 21st touchdown before exiting midway through the second quarter. Lacy ran for 99 yards on 10 carries with two 7-yard touchdowns and a 3-yarder. Neither played after halftime.

STILLWATER — Get ready for a Bedlam rivalry with some sizzle.
An outright Big 12 title is back in play for No. 14 Oklahoma after first-place Kansas State suffered its first loss of the season, and even No. 22 Oklahoma State could claim a share of the conference crown after winning five of its last six games to climb back into the Top 25.
The Sooners (8-2, 6-1 Big 12) certainly can’t afford to breathe a sigh of relief after quarterback Landry Jones and receiver Kenny Stills had huge performances to rescue them in a 50-49 shootout against West Virginia, which had the most yards ever by an Oklahoma opponent with 778.
Switching from wide receiver to running back, Tavon Austin set a school record with 344 yards rushing for a Mountaineers offense that had been struggling on the ground. And Oklahoma State (7-3, 5-2) boasts the league’s best run game, along with a third-string quarterback who’s got the hot hand.

“ I t a d d s a w h o l e ’n o t h e r dynamic. To be able to do that and to mix up the offense, it just gives those guys a whole lot more to work on and allows us to be more successful and have a whole lot more productivity out there,” Walsh said.
As if Oklahoma didn’t have enough to worry about already on defense. Coach Bob Stoops acted as though he was OK with it after Baylor became the fourth team this season to surpass 200 yards against his defense.
He admitted after an even bigger, record-setting outing by West Virginia that “it eats at all of us” and changes could be coming to the seven-defensive back package used the past two weeks.
“Definitely, some of it’s what we’re doing but some of it’s also guys are in position and didn’t make plays. When you miss a tackle, you miss a tackle and a guy goes for another 50 yards. You’re doing the right things. You’ve just got to play better,” Stoops said.
“So, it ’s on both of us. The players can play better in some instances and we can hopefully move them in better position in some instances, too.”
Defensive captain David King
said he’s not sure what’s wrong “but we can’t make any plays, we can’t get any pressure on the quarterback, can’t tackle. Just all out, just poor defense.”
“It ’s embarrassing,” added King, a defensive end. “That’s two weeks in a row that we have been exposed by high-powered offenses.
“It’s all out there on tape now, so OSU’s going to come in and try to expose us again for a third week.”
Oklahoma State holds the Bedlam bragging rights at the moment, having blown out the Sooners 44-10 in Stillwater last season to end an eight-game losing streak in the series and wrap up the team’s first Big 12 title.
The Cowboys haven’t won in Norman since 2001.
“Big game,” said Jones, who broke his own school record with 554 yards passing and tied his own mark with six touchdown passes Saturday night.
“ Final home game for the seniors. Final home game for myself, so obviously I’d love to go out there and I’d love to play to the best of my capabilities.”

Sooner named Big 12 offensive Player of the Week after career day
OU quarterback Landry Jones was named the conference’s offensive player of the week after throwing for a career-high 554 yards — an OU record.
Jones also tied a career-high and school record six touchdown passes in the Sooners 50-49 win against West Virginia last Saturday.
Jones has thrown for 3,245 yards so far this season, becoming just the third quar-terback in FBS history to ever throw for more than 3,000 yards in four separate seasons.
Jones is second in Big 12 history with 15, 262 yards of total offense and third in Big 12 history with 117 passing touchdowns.

Oklahoma finishes in top 10 in nation for the third-consecutive season
The OU men’s cross country team placed eighth with 262 points at the 2012 national championships Saturday in Lexington, Ky.
Senior Bill Kogel led the Sooners, finishing 51st overall with a time of 30 minutes, 19.8 seconds.
The Sooners were the second-highest finishers among Big 12 schools with instate rivals Oklahoma State winning the championship for the third time in four years with 72 points.
Filling out the top 10 were Wisconsin in second, Colorado at third, Northern Arizona at fourth, Florida State at fifth, BYU at sixth, Tulsa at seventh, Texas at ninth and Arkansas at 10th.
Three Oklahoma schools were in the top 10 with OSU winning and Tulsa finishing one place ahead of OU.

Sooners head to Honolulu for Rainbow Wahine Showdown
The OU women’s basketball team will be in Hawaii for Thanksgiving when they go to the Rainbow Wahine Showdown to take on Arkansas, Oregon and host school Hawaii.
The Sooners are coming off a 68-33 win against St. Louis on Sunday and were led by junior center Nicole Griffin, junior guard Aaryn Ellenberg and senior guard Whitney Hand. The trio combined for 39 of OU’s 68 points.
Ellenberg is leading the Sooners in scoring so far this season, averaging more than 20 points after three regu-lar season outings.
OU starts the tournament off with a game against Arkansas at 6 p.m. Friday in Honolulu.
