1 November 11, 2010 | Volume 1 | Issue 1 Tournament Preview L ooking ahead to the spring season, the International Junior Golf Tour will be returning to the beautiful Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Over the weekend of February 19-20, 2011, some of the nations best junior golfers will take on the notorious Turtle Point Course and Ocean Course in a 36-hole event. A tournament favorite to many members, Kiawah Island Resort offers breath- taking scenery and an expansive natural setting just outside of historic Charleston, SC. Golfers should not be fooled, however, by the beautiful back- drop, as Kiawah offers challenging golf to be played with course designs by some of golf’s greatest. The first round of competition will be played on the Turtle Point Golf Course. This course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, has been ranked 48th on Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Course List. Turtle Point offers a chal- lenge to even the best golfers, requiring accuracy to conquer narrow fairways and small greens. Smart play is also crucial on this course as it features strategically placed water hazards and plenty of areas for balls to be hit out-of-bounds. If the challenging course design is not enough, wind is often a factor and constantly blows in different directions. On the last day of competition, players will take on the world-renowned Ocean Course. Ranked as 25th in Golf Digest’s 100 Greatest U.S. Golf Courses List and 4th on Best Public Course List, this Pete Dye course has hosted many popular events including the 1991 Ryder Cup, the 2007 Senior PGA, and will host the 2012 PGA Champi- onship. Offering more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere, the Ocean Course is a demanding course to any player due to its volatile seas breezes.
