Message from the Director One month into this job and I am loving it! I say thank you again to all the people who have congratulated me on my new position. The 2019 Auction is in the books and I am proud to say we raised over $23K. The special pledge was to raise funds to replace our old small van. I am humbled and proud of all the guests, because we raised over $7800 in just 10 min! This level of fundraising is new to Corbin and all I can say is Thank You! Yesterday I sat down with some members for breakfast and asked what they want at Corbin. I listened,

wrote notes and came back to Corbin and started the process to make things happen. I say this because as much as I have an ear to the membership, I can not make things happen if I don’t know what needs to be done! Right now is a great time to come to my office because there is an awesome Lazy Boy chair in it that will be raffled off to raise money to replace the old van. This rocking recliner sells for over $1500. Raffle tickets are only $5 and we will draw the winner at our Christmas lunch December 13th. Come test it out and have a chat. Board elections are going to take place the week of November 18th. Steve Quaid and Nancy Gilbert will be leaving the board at the end of the year, and on behalf of Corbin I want to say thank you for your service and commitment to Corbin. Jan Charbonneau, Lorin Love, and Mike Hollingsworth have agreed to come on the board at Corbin. Read more about them on page 6. If you are interested in service on the board, please reach out to me for more information. November 8th is our Veteran Lunch, free to Veterans and Veteran spouses. If you are not a Veteran, the lunch is only $10. Please come and celebrate these amazing people. Listen to their stories and honor them in our words. We will be awarding a Quilt of Valor to a deserving Veteran. Corbin is also accepting donations of travel size personal hygiene products for homeless Veterans, drop them off at the reception desk. Corbin would like to thank the Veteran-owned businesses that have sponsored this event 100%. Heide Wehr

COMMUNITY BOARD -Snow Season 2019 (go to Emersongarfield.org for full blog post with interactive links) -The City of Spokane created a great resource page for resi-dents that includes a real-time snow removal map, plowing procedures, parking and sidewalks information, and additional resources. -Don't forget that snow season is November 15 - March 15. Citizens are asked to park on the odd side of the street in resi-dential areas for the entire snow season. -The City is asking citizens to clear a 36-inch path to allow pe-destrians to travel effectively, with a goal of completion by 9 a.m. after a snowfall. Citizens are asked to clear ADA ramps and to clear a pedestrian path even if no sidewalk exists. -Seniors or disabled individuals who can't maintain their own sidewalks can call 3-1-1 to get information on available volun-teer services.

WII BOWLING TOURNAMENT

Corbin Wii Bowlers had the Highest bowler at the All City Wii Bowling Tournament today.

Nine WII bowlers from Corbin competed in the October 11th, 2019 All City Wii Bowling Tournament held at the Spokane Val-

ley Baptist Church close to the Holman Retirement Community. There were approximately 104 Wii bowlers from across the city with 10 teams participating.

Barbara Ann Bonner bowled her best game ever and it was enough to take first place at the tournament today. We were very proud of her accomplishment today. She beat Carril Cramer, Paul Ruch and Mary Kay Bryan and everyone else who were competing today. She bowled a beautiful 279. Carril bowled 259 and Mary Kay bowled 249. Jerry Phillips bowled a nice 210 and Betty Salamone bowled 199-with these five scores we averaged 239.2 to earn us the third place trophy. The other Corbin bowlers playing today were Keith Bagge, Phoebe Daniels, Theresa Topp and Paul Ruch. No Corbin won a door prize.

The next scheduled all City Tournament will be held the second Friday of November. There will be no tournament in December. All who want to bowl on this date please let Mary Kay know a few weeks before.

WINTER WALKING AT CORBIN Corbin’s walking group has been a big success and we won’t let a little win-ter weather slow us down. Through February, Corbin’s walking group will meet at the Northtown Mall on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. We

meet at 9:00 am on the main floor in front of Sears. Note: You must enter the mall through one of its main entrances that open at 7:00am rather than the department store entrances!

Here you will find walkers of all ages and physical abilities. It’s a great way to get a little ex-ercise and meet new friends. The escalators are not turned on before 10:00am, but the ele-vator in the center of the mall is always working. If you walk down every corridor of the mall on both levels you will have walked a mile in a warm and safe environment with great friends.
