In June of this year, PACIV will reach 19 years of existence. As I look back, one variable has always been a constant, Change. Change has been a steady factor not only in business at PACIV but in life. I now come to realize that as we progress as a business, change will be one of those variables that are required to continue existing. For example, to grow we change, to improve we change, to evolve we change, to become all we can be, we need to change. Although change, for the most part, is uncomfortable as it takes us from our current known place to a yet unknown place, it remains the one variable needed to become something different. Change is usually welcomed when we know with certainty what it will bring. However, when we look back, and change has knocked on our door with a high degree of uncertainty of what it will bring, it ends up, most of the times, bringing something much better than what it was before. As such, PACIV, as a global leader of industrial automation solutions to the life sciences’ industry, recognizes that we need to have change embedded within our DNA to stay true to our mission. We need to welcome change and embrace it as to exploit all it has to offer. The more we all at PACIV welcome change into our roles and responsibilities as a positive factor, the more adept we will be to address it psychologically.

As we embrace it in our mindset and welcome it, we develop a more positive outlook towards what it has to offer, and as such, we end up making the best out of it. I must confess that I dislike change. Change takes me out of my comfort zone and it removes any sense of control I thought I had. Sometimes it seems like when I just finish working towards stabilizing something, it changes again. However, I now comprehend that change is synonymous with growth. I now know that change is something we need in PACIV in order to propel us through our self-realization journey. Change makes us vulnerable and every time we are vulnerable we are prone to grow as it makes us humble and we are open to improve and, as such, provoke sustainable change within ourselves. It is important for all of us at PACIV to recognize change as a positive variable that allows us to become a better company. Change gets us exposed to situations that we will not otherwise be exposed to. Change is like the snake’s skin that needs to be shed every once in a while to give way to new skin. In this edition, you will hear from Christian Rosado and his temporary assignment in Chicago, supporting one of our clients. Christian has embraced change, he was presented with an opportunity to be exposed to a whole new experience and he accepted the challenge. There is no doubt that Christian is today a better professional and a better person by having gone through that change.

We also present to you the team building/bonding events held in Puerto Rico and Indianapolis office. Lots of associates attended and it was a fun experienced for all. Plus, we are now performing our raffle during these events so you must not miss them. Also, in this edition you will hear from Brendan Hyland and his passion for coaching little kids in the game of hurling. We also welcome Ivan Petrovic’s beautiful baby boy and new addition to the family. As usual, we celebrate many birthdays and anniversaries so please join us on congratulating our associates. As we give way to 2016 and our 19th year in PACIV, let’s open up to change in a positive way, recognizing that change has not only gotten us to where we are today but it has made us who we are today.

Chicago has something for everyone: from one of the finest art collections in the western world to the Chicago Cubs. During my assignment I’ve visited most of the museums, the John Handcock Observatory, the White Sox Baseball Stadium and the Cubs Baseball Stadium. One of the most alluring experiences has been to observe the transition from a colorless landscape, composed mainly of a white and gray pallet, to an array of distinct colors. Living through the change of seasons is something I had never experienced before since Puerto Rico only has varying degrees of scorching hot weather. However, despite the cold climate present in Chicago, I am grateful for the warmth of my coworkers, the guidance of my mentors, and the opportunity to lead.

Working at a start-up company has to be one of the most stimulating tasks that you can endure. While at times challenging to maintain a work-life balance, this great city counteracts the high paced work environment present at TPI.

Hurling is one of the oldest and fastest field games in the world and has been popular for at least 3000 years in Ireland with the first literary reference dating back to 1272 BC. Hurling is often referenced in Irish myths and legends, the most famous of which has to be the early account found in the Táin Bo Cuailgne, a legendary tale from early Irish literature, which describes the exploits of the Ulster hero Cú Chullainn, (literally Hound of Cullen) who was so named after killing a fierce guard dog by driving a hurling ball down its throat. Such stories often portray Hurling as a form of martial training and proficiency on the Hurling field was equated with skill in battle. Hurling is one of the most popular sports played in Ireland today, alongside Gaelic Football, Soccer and Rugby. There are 15 players on each team. The objective of the game is for players to use a wooden stick called a hurley (in Irish a camán, pronounced /ˈkæmən/ or /kəˈmɔnː/) to hit a small ball called a sliotar /ˈʃlɪtər/ between the opponents' goalposts either over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for one goal, which is equivalent to three points. The sport is governed by the largest sporting organization in the country, the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). I played hurling in addition to other sports when I was young. I began coaching in 2012 when my local GAA club in Cork, Erin’s Own, requested that parents volunteer to help coach the kids in developing their hurling skills. I began coaching the Under-5 age group (including my son Max) – much of the first few weeks was spent tying laces, ensuring they were enjoying themselves and trying to get the kids to focus…..but gradually they began to learn some of the skills! My older son, Zach, also plays hurling with the Under-11 age group. I now coach the Under-8 age group and it is very enjoyable seeing my son and the other kids develop as hurlers and as little people too! Hurling is also played throughout North America and in other regions of the world. Anyone interested in learning more, or perhaps catching a live game, can visit the North American GAA website for more details: http://www.northamericangaa.com/contentPage/29881/about_us Hurling games can also be watched on YouTube.

The PACIV-USA Indianapolis Office held a unique and fun team building event at the Escape Room in the early Spring of this year. in Indianapolis provides themed rooms for a group of 6-12 people with complex puzzles and problems that must be solved within a 1-hour time span in order to escape. Each team was given 3 clues at the beginning and any additional clues given would take 10 minutes off the clock.

    PACIV INDY TEAM

    BUILDING SPRING EVENT

The event promoted close team work among each group utilizing each other’s strengths to solve the puzzles and problems that they came across. The 3 themes were Jail Break, Bank Heist and Art Gallery. Out of these 3 groups, the Art Gallery team was the only one to escape within the allowed 60 minutes. Fun was had by all and afterwards everyone sat down to a nice dinner at the Spaghetti factory. We are all looking forward to the next event!

PACIV-PR latest initiative includes Team Bonding experiences in quarterly Friday Night Socials. The first Team Bonding activity took place on October 2015 at Carolina Bowling Center, the second one at Rio Bayamon Golf Course and the third one at Brother Jimmy’s BBQ. These are great opportunities to gather all the associates together to get to know each other and have a great time. The team had a great time riding the bull at Brother Jimmy's BBQ at El San Juan Resort and Casino.
