Obituary: Hans Werner Kocherscheidt

At the age of 88, Hans Werner Kocher-scheidt of the EJOT Group passed away on April 14, 2017, after a short, but serious illness. Hans Werner Ko-cherscheidt always cared deeply about his home, the economy in Wittgenstein, Germany, and about the people. He had an excellent reputation not only as a businessman, but also as a lawyer and notary. Ko-cherscheidt attended law school in Mainz and Bonn, followed by a legal clerkship at the District Court of Siegen and then time as an assessor in Essen. At the end of the 1950s, he settled down as a lawyer in Bad Berleburg. In February 1959, he married his wife Gisela. From his uncle, Adolf Böhl, he inherited the screw fac-tory in Berghausen in 1960. Four years later, Kocherscheidt purchased the screw production firm, Eberhard Jaeger, in Laasphe. From both companies, he formed the EJOT Group, which now em-ploys over 3000 people worldwide and has a turnover of €450 million. Early on, Kocherscheidt recognized the necessity to set up the company internationally. The first international subsidiaries were founded in the early 1980s. Today the EJOT Group has production and sales companies in over 30 countries. For Hans Werner Kocherscheidt, sustainable business management always meant investing the profits in the company and not withdrawing them from the company.

Malone was promoted to Sales Manager, where he continued to not only lead the sales force, but also mentor and train many individuals who are still in the industry today. In 1999, he was promoted to GM of Walker Bolt Manufacturing. In 2001, Malone began a partnership with Richard Sivley and Spring Bolt and Nut Manufacturing was formed. Since 2001, Spring Bolt and Nut has grown from a 4500 ft2 facility with four employees and just a handful of ma-chines to a 25,000 ft2 facility, with 15 employees and over 100 machines. Malone is considered by many in the

fastener industry as the go-to person for knowledge and advice about fas-tener specifications and the require-ments they contain. But if you ask many Houston fastener people about Tim, they will tell you a story about six bolts that sold for a total of US$25,000. In 1995, Tim quoted and received the order for six 1-3/8(8) x 31.50 per print round cylindrical head bolts made out of T310 high-temperature stainless with a less than one-day delivery. Raw material for these fasteners was located in the USA state of California. So how do you get over 200 lb of stainless round bar from California to Houston in four hours? Charter a jet, which Tim did. Ultimately, the bolts were manufactured and delivered in just 16 hours.

The team at Spring Bolt and Nut thanks Tim Malone for his 16 years of service and for all the knowledge he’s shared and instilled in the minds of many fastener professionals. Richard Sivley, will be taking the leadership reins for the company, keeping his current title of “Senior Havoc Manager”.

MWFA Offers Members Rebate on FIC Fastener Summit

In its continued effort to support the Fastener Industry Coalition (FIC) Fastener Summit, the Mid-West Fastener Association (MWFA) says that it will rebate back US$50 for the first attendee from each MWFA member company who at-tends the Fastener Summit.

The effect of the rebate is to re-duce the admission price to US$100 for every MWFA member company employee to attend this education and informational event. Rebates will be mailed to member com-panies after the event takes place. The rebate is in addition to funds already committed to this event by the MWFA, which also participates on the FIC board.

MWFA encourages fastener industry associations and their members to continue promoting this industry-wide event that follows FASTENER TECH ’17 on June 7, 2017.

Dates & Venue Set for Fastener Fair Turkey 2018

The next Fastener Fair Turkey takes place at the IFM–Istan-bul Expo Centre, March 15 to 17, 2018, in Istanbul, Turkey. Occupying two halls, next year’s event will be the fourth of these exhibitions of fastener and fixing technology to take place in Turkey. It will bring together producers, wholesalers and resellers/distributors and end users of fastener systems for both industrial and construction ap-plications as well as suppliers of fastener manufacturing equipment and materials.

Exhibitors have been quick to respond to this latest opportunity, as a year ahead of the exhibition 91% of stand space has already been booked by more than 120 compa-

nies from Turkey, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, China and Taiwan.

Fastener Fair Turkey 2016 at-tracted a total of 1700 visiting man-agers, engineers and buyers. Most were from Turkey, but some 10% were foreign visitors, representing 38 countries. Wholesalers and dis-tributors accounted for half of those visitors, while 21% were end users. Most of the remaining visitors were fastener and fixings manufacturers.

Visitor quality was also high, with Managing Directors, Board Members and entrepreneurs ac-counting for 50% of the attendees. The remaining attendees were engineers and technicians, depart-ment heads, senior managers and purchasers.
