Teachers’ responsibilities have been
multiplied in this era of technological
innovations and globalization. The objectives
of teacher education have to take new shapes
from being perennial to progressive and ideal
to experimental. So reviewing, rethinking and
rewriting of objectives, contents and methods
of teacher education have become necessary
for quality improvement and quality
management of the teachers, the teacher
trainees and teacher educators.
Teachers have different roles for different
people or field of work. To the student, they
are the keys to knowledge; to the community,
they are the problem solvers, and to the
nation, they are the citizen builders. I wish
that our teachers and students shall strive
hard to work in this direction. I thank my co-

To unravel the hidden potentialities which lie within us, there exists a magical formula:
“You Are What You Think You Are”
This formula suggests that one can
reach up to the limitless heights of success only
if one identifies the presence of talent within
oneself. Many people undermine their talent
though they possess it to the highest degree.
But do you know that the desire for an
accomplishment is an indication by the nature
that you have the necessary talent to achieve it.
A certain woman had always wished
that she could become an artist, but was sure
she could not as she said she could not draw
even a straight line. Her husband as a
psychological experiment, bought a complete
range of colours, brushes, canvasses etc, and
presented it to her. While presenting the same
to her, he appreciated her intuitive knowledge
of colour harmony as manifested by the manner
in which she arranged furnishings in their
house. Let’s focus on what the husband tried to
do? It was nothing more than just creating
awareness within his wife about the existence
of a talent. The results were amazing as the lady
sprang a surprise on the people around her with
the exotic paintings. If the husband would not
have given weight age to his wife’s desire, the
talent within her would have certainly remained
unexplored. It implies that one must try to pay
heed to one’s desire by doing self-appreciation
and not just wait for some other person to
provide an impetus.
Acquiring self-appreciation is just a
five step process which commences with
‘knowing what you want’. The First step is,
therefore, to know what it is you would like to
do. Secondly, one needs to know that it is the
desire which indicates that you have the talent.
Thirdly, just realize the fact that you are a mind
with a body. As long as the mind is functioning
towards positive direction, there are no physical
limitations. Thus man’s greatest handicap is a
negative mind. Moving further, the next step is
that one should accept that it is easier to get
what you want than to pity yourself for not
having it. It means it is imperative to value time
and start the initial step as early as possible.
Therefore, step five pertains to the making of
initial move – no matter how insignificant it
might appear.
Thus, in nutshell, we can say that the
road to success starts from the identification as
well as appreciation of talent within us and then
moving towards the target with the singleness
of purpose without wasting even fraction of a
second.

Salads are one type of food that can be
used by adding in them just about anything that
is edible and still they taste great. Salads in
their many avatars are found all over the world.
Most of the different salads not only use
different ingredients but the dressings also
vary. The climate, availability of vegetables, as
well as the cuisine and the palates are all the
reasons for variations in the flavors that are
found.
In France, a single green salad is
possibly most liked the English palate likes
mixed salads with a combination of lettuce,
cucumber, beet root and other such
vegetables. The addition of fruits into a salad is
thought to have been brought about by the
courtesy of the Americans. The Indian salads
use lots of onions, cucumber, tomatoes, etc
and the dressing is traditionally light and lemon
based.
Salads are popular not only because
they taste good but also they are the richest
and the cheapest source of nutrition and
contain vitamins and minerals that are essential
for our good health. Making salad is not at all a
difficult task. Using the freshest possible greens
is one basic tip to make good salads.
Salads can be of many types:
Green salad which is popularly used contains
cabbage, lettuce, parsley, endive, spinach and
spring onion. Apart from these beans, carrots,
cauliflower, cucumber, radish, capsicum,
tomatoes, and other popular vegetables are
used.
Mixed Salads include additions like
cheese, eggs, etc. and they are more filling and
often eaten as meal in themselves.
Composed Salads are those which are
carefully arranged in a serving bowl and a little
of dressing is then spooned onto them.
Cooked Salads include cooked
vegetables marinated in a dressing and then
served often as an appetizer or a salad.
There are Starter Salads, which you
start a meal with, Side Salads which are either
served alone or as an accompaniment to a dish
and light meal.
There are salads which contain eggs,
meat, fish or cheese as well as vegetables and
are usually served with a roll of bread and a
glass of wine.

Today’s world is the world of technology.
No doubt this technology has a major
contribution to the advancement of the society.
A majority of comforts which we enjoy today are
the outcomes of scientific and technological
advancements only. But technology has not only
constructive points but it has also posed before
us variety of challenges and difficulties. Current
era is characterized by the scarcity of time. For
that reason it becomes obligatory on our part to
adopt such a medium through which information
can be sent at a greater speed. Here comes the
role of computers. By using internet facility one
can easily send the required information by just
clicking one button. Internet has transformed this
whole world into a small place.
But as we know there are always two sides of
the coins, one of the biggest challenges which
we are facing today is the challenge pertaining
to crime related to computer. This is termed as
“Cyber Crime”. It is just like other crimes in
nature as it is also characterized by the breach
of rules. In laymen’s language any crime which
comes within the domain of cyber world is
considered as cyber crime. It includes crimes
such as e-mail spoofing, forgery, stealing money
from bank accounts, pornography, etc. Cyber
crime can be against a particular individual, an
organization or against society at large. The
major form of cyber crime includes harassment
via e-mails which is very common one these
days. Cyber stalking is another form wherein the
person’s movements across the internet are
followed. Projection of obscene material or
pornographic material also comes under the
preview of cyber crime. Defamation is one the
common forms of cyber crime in which e-mail
accounts are hacked and then inappropriate e-
mails are sent to the people available in the list
in that particular e-mail account with the
deliberate intention to lower down the
concerned individual’s dignity. Cyber criminals
also manage to get unauthorized access to a
person’s computer system to steal any kind of
confidential information. Similarly computer
vandalism, transmitting viruses, online fraud and
cheating are some of the other forms of cyber
crime.
Keeping in mind the urgency of
protection from such criminals our Government
has undertaken a major step by incorporating
the Information Technology Act 2000 which
includes provision related to fine and
imprisonment for anyone who tampers with
computer source documents. But as prevention
is better than cure, it is mandatory to say that
each and every citizen should certain
precautions to fight with the increasing rate of
cyber crimes. First of all personal information
should not be disclosed to any stranger on the
internet. Most of the time photographs are
misused so they should not be sent through
email or posted on any social networking site. If
they are there then keep a check on the security
settings. Apart from this, updated anti-viruses
should be used. It is advisable to save the data
somewhere else also, apart from having it on PC
only, as it can be really helpful in case of any
virus attacks on computer. By adopting such
precautions the increasing number of cyber
crimes in the society can be easily controlled.

This article is dedicated to the female species. I
am quite sure that while reading it, you will be
bound to look within yourself, and find the
content of this article, similar to the story of your
lives if not exactly the same at least.
We daughters were, are and will remain
sweeter than the sons. I can give you many
examples to prove myself. Well to begin with, we
never forget our parents’ birthday, unlike sons
who will remember throughout the year except
on the very day the birthday falls.
We somehow, seem to know how to
make our parents feel special and important. Our
stock of novel ideas to surprise our mom and dad
on their anniversary never gets saturated. We
love our brothers. Yes you read it right! We love
our brothers who consider it their birth right to
take us for granted. Before marriage, the
expectations of our parents govern our lives and
keeps us busy fulfilling them and soon we realize
that we are no more sweet sixteen. We are
expected to grow up overnight and the most
surprising part is that we do grow up. We start
going to college but that is not the college we
attend. At home, we attend another college - the
college which is to be attended if we want to
graduate and get a degree of marriage.
Yes, you guessed it absolutely right. We
learn to cook, stitch, knit and to learn thousands
of household courses and that too without a
single word of complaint. How sweet of us!
After marriage, we feel that we would get
some rest. But no, we are sadly mistaken. Our
husbands expect us to adjust with their families
and know everything. Well, we do know
everything and learn to please everyone. But
there is no end to the expectations of the
mother-in-law. She wants a perfect daughter, a
perfect wife, a perfect mother, a perfect baby
sitter, in fact everything in the form of a ‘BAHU’.
No wonder by the time we reach the age
of 35, our faces betray us. The story of our lives
start showing in wrinkles on our faces. Anyhow,
we are still not discouraged. Life seems to be an
endless cycle of the tests for us. But how does it
matter? We pass each test with flying colours.
The smile never leaves our faces, so what if it
fades a little. The glow and twinkle in our eyes
never vanishes. Now you are intelligent enough
to judge who is sweeter- the daughter who dotes
on her parents or the sons on whom the parents
dote on.
We are loving, humble, understanding,
affectionate and caring; and at the same time
strong minded also. Last but not the least we are
tolerant. When we have such valuable treasures
of qualities then how anybody can question our
sweetness?
‘WE DAUGHTERS ARE THE BEST’
By Tina Lecturer, Lovely School of Education By Tina Lecturer, Lovely School of Education
As in any other sphere of life, the new and
advanced technology is being continuously
applied in improving the capacity and
performance of players. That’s why different
players of different kinds of games are adopting
the technical development in the field of
Engineering, Bio-Mechanics, Communication or
Information. Now, let’s discuss ten of the major
technical inventions which are changing the
image of the games day-by-day.
Thermometer Tablet
The major thing behind the sudden death of
players is energy loss. For this, NASA and Hopkins
University have invented Thermometer Tablet
with their combined effort. This tablet includes
quartz crystal sensor and a micro battery covered
with silicon, which help specialists to know about
the body temperature and heart beat.
Tool Laze Manufacturing
With the help of this technique, more than
300000 photos of body of any player can be
captured. With the help of the observations,
design of their dresses can be easily made.
Reactive Material
In today’s modern games, players of different
fast games are more prone to injuries than
others. Taking this under consideration, such
dresses are being made which are not only
movable along with the movement of players but
also act as a safety cover in case of any accident
during play time. Dresses made with such kind of
materials are being utilized in games like racing,
hockey and football.
Smart Clothing
In this case, a microscopic sensor and a wireless
network is always attached with the dress of the
player, which keep an eye on the heart beat,
body temperature and hydration as well. With
the help of these tools we are able to keep an
eye on bleeding from different wounds and cuts
of bodies of the players and defense persons.
Digital Imaging:
There is nothing in the world which can entertain
us by showing different games other than
television (TV). It provides us the facility to see
live and the replay, and to see the performance
of a particular player from different angles. Here
this task is being done by Digital Imaging.
Fluid Dynamics
This particular branch of Physics makes research
on different kinds of activities by means of Air,
Water & Gases. With the help of this, we can be
able to see the muscle extraction/extension of
the player and player’s reaction towards that
particular extraction.
By Jyoti Bali B.Ed. Student By Jyoti Bali B.Ed. Student
InformationTechnology
How was the performance of existing player than the
previous one? To determine these kind of things now
a days is easier with the help of information
technology. Information about the pulses and
negatives of different players can also be taken easily.
Biomimetics
Now Engineers are getting inspired from the nature.
By having some inspiration from the elements found
from the skin of a shark, they are trying to make a
swimming dress. With the help of this only Michael
Phelps made new records. Now, scientists are
working on creating some types of shoes whose
structure has been inspired by the foots of a Lizard
and which are very helpful to run & climb.
Carbon Nanotechnology
By utilizing the advanced nanotechnology, scientists
have achieved success of making such a carbon tube
whose size is one millionth of the size of a ball. These
are being utilized in making golf clubs, tennis rackets,
baseball bats, cycle and hockey sticks, etc. A
Nanotech institute affiliated to Texas University has
achieved the success of making artificial muscles by
means of carbon tubes.
Robotics
Robotics is being used in finding out the risk of
different games and also to find a cure for those risks
in real life. Recently, scientists have made such a
robot which will help to have a research on the
movements and security system of the players during
skiing.

Students Experience EDUSAT Classroom
The M.Phil (Edu.) and M.Phil (Phy.Edu) students, as part of their curriculum, were taken for a field visit to the Govt. Sr. Secondary School, Banga Road, Phagwara on 11th December, 2009 to have an exposure to the satellite based classroom held through EDUSAT. The LPU had provided the bus facility for this trip.
EDUSAT, an exclusive satellite dedicated for the cause of education was launched by the Govt. of India on 20th September, 2004. After its successive experiments in selected pockets of the country for satellite based teaching and training, facilities are being provided in schools in different states for such classrooms. Such facilities are now available in selected Sr. Secondary schools of Punjab. The students attended such a program, referred to above, in the school from 11.20 a.m. to 12.40 p.m. (two lessons).
The lessons were on the subject English for class 11th on the poetry “Confession of a Born Spectator” by Ogden Nash (American poet) and the lesson was delivered by Ms. BinduGulati, a lecturer in English from Chandigarh. The medium of instruction was English but explanations were given in Punjabi to suit the target students of govt. schools. The facility of interactive classroom is also available in the school but such programs are held with prior announcement on selected days only. The prime advantage of such class is that the students have access to an expert teacher, who otherwise is physically not available to them. As part of this field exposure,
The students understood the composition
of an EDUSAT classroom (the
infrastructure required).
They could relate theoretical aspect of
what they have learnt to see practically
how it happens.
They enriched their understanding of the
instructional design and delivery of e-
lessons.
They can apply the knowledge gained in
developing e-content on identified topics
for which they are now engaged in.

A study conducted by Dr. AnandaPadhan
and Ms. Neeraj on Attitude of Rickshaw Pullers
towards Education in Relation to Their Literacy
and Socio-Economic Status examined the literacy
level and the socio-economic status of rickshaw
pullers in two industrial towns of Ludhiana and
Phagwara in Punjab (an advanced state in India);
and whether these variables had any relationship
with their attitude towards education. The
sample for the study comprised 500 rickshaw
pullers – 250 each from these two cities. About
the literacy level, a majority of them (53 percent)
were found to be illiterates, and 17 percent as
just primary school educated (up to Class V).
Amongst them as much as 70 percent have
migrated from the two populous and socio-
economically backward states of Bihar and Uttar
Pradesh whereas as only 23 percent belong to
Punjab.
The range of the rickshaw pullers’
earnings falls between Rs. 3000 to 7500 and
nobody had reported an earning over Rs. 7500
per month. Such levels of income hardly make
them free from the urban misery, and have a
decent living. Surprisingly, about 68 percent of
them own a mobile phone. This seems to be a
priority for them because of the mobile nature of
their job. However the disappointing feature is
that less than 20 percent of this section of society
is aware about the educational schemes of
National Adult Education Program,
SarvaShikshaAbhiyan and the Mid-day meal in
schools. Their status of being literates or
illiterates, when correlated with their attitudes
towards education did not reveal any significant
relationship. The reason may be that most of
them being illiterate or just literate (studied up to
primary class, or again back to illiteracy as a drop
out), are unable to reflect a positive view on
education or keep them neutral without
expressing any view. Their primary concern
happens to be the daily bread and butter
(struggle for survival) than education or anything
else.
The rickshaw pullers ferry
children of others to school and colleges, and
even they give space in the rear of their vehicles
for messages of social, educational and
commercial values through permanent writing or
poster attachment. But as users, people never
bother to talk to them whether their children go
to school, about the government provision for
free education for children, the free mid-day
meal and many such educational and social
interventions. The people need to make them
aware about the value of education and other
socio-economic schemes for the sake of their
children-s the future participants in a developing
society.
The range of the rickshaw pullers’ earnings
fall between Rs. 3000 to 7500, and nobody
had reported earnings over Rs. 7500 per
month.
Their status of being literate or illiterate,
when correlated with their attitude
towards education did not reveal any
significant relationship.
The level of their income (within in a
framework of low economic status)
showed a positive correlation with their
literacy level.
