The Champion Chow Event gives you the opportunity to present your food preparation menu planning table setting and other food and nutrition skills at one single event You may enter as an individual or as a team (consisting of 2 members) Individuals and teams will plan and submit a menu for one balanced meal (breakfast lunch and dinner) This is a great opportunity to enter something you cannot enter at the County Fair such as a main dish soup or salad

This years event will take place on Sunday April 3 2016 300 ndash 430 pm (make note to arrive 15 mins early to set up) at the Baltimore County Center for MD Agriculture

1 Plan a balanced nutritious menu Write or type the menu on the registration form and submit it to the 4-H Office by registration deadline Monday March 28 2016 You may submit your entry electronically to pmooreumdedu or by mail 1114 Shawan Road Suite 2 Cockeysville MD 21030 or fax (410-785-5950)

2 Select one item from your menu to prepare and bring to the Champion Chow event This item should belong to one of the following categories main dish saladside dish bread or dessert

3 Write or type the recipe of the item which you choose to prepare on the back of your Champion Chow registration form and submit it to the 4-H Office by the registration deadline Monday March 28 2016

4 Choose the appropriate table setting suitable for the meal you choose to present at the Champion Chow (linen or tablecloth flatware glassware dishes centerpiece etc) Each participant will be responsible for bringing everything needed to set one place setting on the day of the Champion Chow event Space allowed for each entry will be 36rdquo wide and 24rdquo deep Each participant will have a space

5 Each participant will have a time to explain their entry to the judges You will be judged on the nutrition of the meal you select the way the foods look together (color textures etc) the food item you have chosen to make your table setting and your recipe Winners will be recognized at the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the dayrsquos events

4-H Horsinrsquo Around is off to a great re-start They meet the first Friday of the month at 630 pm in the Reservoir Trails preschool 2658 Beckleysville Road Manchester MD They are very excited about what they are accomplishing Events such as a tour of Mint Meadows Farms demonstrations community service projects and craft making are a few of their accomplishments so far

At the FIRST LEGO League 2016 Roar of the Robots tournament last week our 4-H Hunt Valley Robotics team ldquoThe Recyclerzrdquo won 2nd place for their project and scored more than triple what they have ever scored Congratulations to Ashel Amith Bhargav Blaidd Cooper and Rushil

On February 5th the 4-H Day at University of Maryland was enjoyed by many 4-Hers across the state Baltimore County had a special contribution when Erin Purnell sang the national anthem

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is seeking students to participate in the UMD MANRRS Chapter MANNRS stands for Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences MANRRS is a non-profit UMD recognized club to foster and promote the agricultural sciences and related fields in a positive manner among underrepresented students in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Agricultural Sciences

The Hunt Valley Foxes are a FIRST Tech Challenge team from the Hunt Valley 4-H Robotics Club They are a rookie team comprised of five 7th and 8th grade students Ananya Cody Didier John and Louis The team recently competed in a Qualifier Tournament at The Bryn Mawr School and was ranked 5th They have advanced to Maryland FTC Championships to be held at Georgetown Prep School in Washington DC on Sunday 221 The teamrsquos robot The Finder Fox was built using TETRIX parts following a template They then customized the design for this seasonrsquos challenge FIRST RES-Q The team has received financial and material support from The 4-H Foundation Baltimore County Extension and T Rowe Price The team is open to new members

1 The contest consists of five categories

Clover Show and Tell and 4-H Pledge Prepared Speech Extemporaneous Radio Spot Interpretations

Speeches are given by individuals not teams

2 Each of the above categories includes four age groups

Clovers 5-7 Junior 8-10 Intermediate 11-13 Senior 14-18

Ages are as of January 1st of the current year

3 Time Limits

Clover Show and Tell 1-3 min and CloverJunior 4-H Pledge 1-2 mins

Prepared Juniors 3 to 5 minutes Intermediates and Seniors 4 to 6 minutes

Extemporaneous Juniors and Intermediates 2 to 3 minutes Seniors 3 to 5 minutes

Radio Spot 30 seconds for Juniors Intermediates and Seniors

Interpretations Juniors - 1 frac12 to 3 minutes Intermediates - 2 to 4 minutes Seniors - 3 to 5 minutes

Judges may deduct points for presentations not meeting or exceeding time limits

4 Visual aids including posters are not permitted Appropriate gestures are encouraged For Dramatic Interpretation contestant may opt to sit for presentation Podium use is optional

5 Prepared Speech contestants may speak on any topic It may be wise to discuss topics that could be considered controversial with your 4-H leader or educator before the contest The speech may be written for a specific audience such as a 4-H club PTA or a Rotary Club Note cards containing a key word outline are permitted Only juniors may use a complete script Memorization is not encouraged

6 Extemporaneous speakers will draw three topics and choose one topic to speak on Juniors and Intermediates may have up to 30 minutes and Seniors up to 15 minutes to prepare their talk Contestants may use one side of up to four or both sides of up to two 5 x 8 inch note cards to their key word outline Extemporaneous speakers will be shown color time cards at correctly timed intervals indicating ldquo30 SECONDSrdquo ldquo1 MINUTErdquo AND ldquoSTOPrdquo

7 Prepared Speech Extemporaneous Speech and Interpretations contestants should not introduce themselves as part of their presentation This will be done by an MC or room HostHostess

8 Radio spots should be exactly 30 seconds in length and may include a musical or sound effect introduction andor background but may not include a spoken introduction or ldquotagrdquo by anyone other than the contestant If music or a sound effect is used the contestant must provide and operate the sound-making device The contestant will provide a complete written script (including notations about musicsound effects) to the timekeeper to aid in timing accuracy Musicalsound effect introductions and endings are considered a part of the radio spot and must not cause the 30 second time limit to be exceeded The spot should relate to 4-H be original and be created by the contestant

9 Interpretations Interpretations are to be memorized oral interpretation or a selection of narrative in language of speakerrsquos choice Interpretations consist of three categories

Dramatic Interpretation

a Oral interpretation memorized by the speaker or a serious selection of narrative or dramatic literature Monologues are acceptable

b Mime ndash use your body to create an interpretation

c Poetry Interpretation ndash a memorized oral interpretation by the speaker

d Humorous Interpretation ndash a memorized oral interpretation of a humorous selection by the speaker Cuttings may be taken from published plays or prose

10 Judges may ask questions of contestants in the prepared extemporaneous and interpretations categories related to the topic Due to time constraints questioning should be limited to two or three minutes per speaker Questions will not be asked in the radio spot category

11 Clover Show and Tell participants are ages 5-7 and have the opportunity to share any special toy collectible or other favorite item with the audience Clovers will have 1-3 min to showcase their special item followed by a question answer period with the audience

12 CloverJunior Pledge Clovers ages 5-7 and Juniors ages 8-10 will recite the 4-H pledge to the audience

Other Rules

1 Contestants are to bring two (2) copies of the script including reference Language other than spoken English must be translated

2 Speaker can speak or interpret in language of their choice If using language other than spoken English participant must inform Extension Office before the event to ensure appropriate judges

3 The champions from the county contest will be sent to the State Contest that is held in April

4 At the State Contest a contestant may only compete in one category If a contestant wins more than one category at the County Contest they must choose which category to compete in at the State Contest

State Champions may not enter the same category and age group a second time

NEW AFTERSCHOOL 4-H CLUB

4-H GALA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Harford Hills Elementary School launched a new 4-H afterschool program for students from 2nd to 5th grades This club offers an opportunity for youth to engage in hands-on activities to build life skills in the areas of rockets robotics climate and agricultural science projects

The Baltimore County 4-H is proud to announce that James Thomas received the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Overall High Score 4-H Portfolio Scholarship

This Scholarship was established in 2015 the

College AGNR offering $1000 to each of the nine senior high overall individuals at the following annual 4-H competitions Livestock Judging Dairy Judging Horticulture Judging Poultry Judging Rabbit Judging Horse Judging Hippology Livestock Skillathon and Overall National

Leadership Trip Winner- High Point winner of the portfolio program which encompasses National 4-H Congress National 4-H Conference Camp Miniwanca West Virginia Older Members Camp and Virginia 4-H Congress

The recipient must apply as a bachelorrsquos degree-seeking student be accepted to the University of Maryland and enroll in the College of AGNR

Maryland 4-H Foundation offers a matching scholarship award to these students in the amount of $1000

James was selected to go to National 4-H Congress in 2015 He was the chair for the Maryland contingent This high honor was given to him for his excellent work on his senior portfolio his interview skills and his essay

This workshop is designed for adult 4-H volunteers and teens interested in mentoring younger 4-H members on how to program LEGO Mindstormreg robots and to introduce the 2016 LEGO 4-H Challenge The training will feature tracks for those that will be mentoring robotics activities and those that are working with teams on the 4-H LEGO Challenge

The 2016 4-H LEGO Challenge mat has been redesigned Registered teams this year will receive a new mat free of charge Any registered team that attends this training will also receive the LEGO mission pieces free as well Time will be allotted to construct the mission pieces and review the rules for this yearrsquos game Advanced programming training will be provided on topics such as line following We encourage each team to bring a laptop and a Mindstormreg robot that is ready to program

This program will be presented by the GEARS Robotics Team from Garrett County The host for the training is STEMaction at the USRA STEMaction Center in Columbia MD

The Champion Chow Event gives you the opportunity to present your food preparation menu planning table setting and other food and nutrition skills at one single event You may enter as an individual or as a team (consisting of 2 members) Individuals and teams will plan and submit a menu for one balanced meal (breakfast lunch and dinner) This is a great opportunity to enter something you cannot enter at the County Fair such as a main dish soup or salad

This years event will take place on Sunday April 3 2016 300 ndash 430 pm (make note to arrive 15 mins early to set up) at the Baltimore County Center for MD Agriculture

1 Plan a balanced nutritious menu Write or type the menu on the registration form and submit it to the 4-H Office by registration deadline Monday March 28 2016 You may submit your entry electronically to pmooreumdedu or by mail 1114 Shawan Road Suite 2 Cockeysville MD 21030 or fax (410-785-5950)

2 Select one item from your menu to prepare and bring to the Champion Chow event This item should belong to one of the following categories main dish saladside dish bread or dessert

3 Write or type the recipe of the item which you choose to prepare on the back of your Champion Chow registration form and submit it to the 4-H Office by the registration deadline Monday March 28 2016

4 Choose the appropriate table setting suitable for the meal you choose to present at the Champion Chow (linen or tablecloth flatware glassware dishes centerpiece etc) Each participant will be responsible for bringing everything needed to set one place setting on the day of the Champion Chow event Space allowed for each entry will be 36rdquo wide and 24rdquo deep Each participant will have a space

5 Each participant will have a time to explain their entry to the judges You will be judged on the nutrition of the meal you select the way the foods look together (color textures etc) the food item you have chosen to make your table setting and your recipe Winners will be recognized at the awards ceremony at the conclusion of the dayrsquos events

4-H Horsinrsquo Around is off to a great re-start They meet the first Friday of the month at 630 pm in the Reservoir Trails preschool 2658 Beckleysville Road Manchester MD They are very excited about what they are accomplishing Events such as a tour of Mint Meadows Farms demonstrations community service projects and craft making are a few of their accomplishments so far

At the FIRST LEGO League 2016 Roar of the Robots tournament last week our 4-H Hunt Valley Robotics team ldquoThe Recyclerzrdquo won 2nd place for their project and scored more than triple what they have ever scored Congratulations to Ashel Amith Bhargav Blaidd Cooper and Rushil

On February 5th the 4-H Day at University of Maryland was enjoyed by many 4-Hers across the state Baltimore County had a special contribution when Erin Purnell sang the national anthem

The College of Agriculture and Natural Resources is seeking students to participate in the UMD MANRRS Chapter MANNRS stands for Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences MANRRS is a non-profit UMD recognized club to foster and promote the agricultural sciences and related fields in a positive manner among underrepresented students in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Agricultural Sciences

The Hunt Valley Foxes are a FIRST Tech Challenge team from the Hunt Valley 4-H Robotics Club They are a rookie team comprised of five 7th and 8th grade students Ananya Cody Didier John and Louis The team recently competed in a Qualifier Tournament at The Bryn Mawr School and was ranked 5th They have advanced to Maryland FTC Championships to be held at Georgetown Prep School in Washington DC on Sunday 221 The teamrsquos robot The Finder Fox was built using TETRIX parts following a template They then customized the design for this seasonrsquos challenge FIRST RES-Q The team has received financial and material support from The 4-H Foundation Baltimore County Extension and T Rowe Price The team is open to new members

1 The contest consists of five categories

Clover Show and Tell and 4-H Pledge Prepared Speech Extemporaneous Radio Spot Interpretations

Speeches are given by individuals not teams

2 Each of the above categories includes four age groups

Clovers 5-7 Junior 8-10 Intermediate 11-13 Senior 14-18

Ages are as of January 1st of the current year

3 Time Limits

Clover Show and Tell 1-3 min and CloverJunior 4-H Pledge 1-2 mins

Prepared Juniors 3 to 5 minutes Intermediates and Seniors 4 to 6 minutes

4 Visual aids including posters are not permitted Appropriate gestures are encouraged For Dramatic Interpretation contestant may opt to sit for presentation Podium use is optional

5 Prepared Speech contestants may speak on any topic It may be wise to discuss topics that could be considered controversial with your 4-H leader or educator before the contest The speech may be written for a specific audience such as a 4-H club PTA or a Rotary Club Note cards containing a key word outline are permitted Only juniors may use a complete script Memorization is not encouraged

6 Extemporaneous speakers will draw three topics and choose one topic to speak on Juniors and Intermediates may have up to 30 minutes and Seniors up to 15 minutes to prepare their talk Contestants may use one side of up to four or both sides of up to two 5 x 8 inch note cards to their key word outline Extemporaneous speakers will be shown color time cards at correctly timed intervals indicating ldquo30 SECONDSrdquo ldquo1 MINUTErdquo AND ldquoSTOPrdquo

7 Prepared Speech Extemporaneous Speech and Interpretations contestants should not introduce themselves as part of their presentation This will be done by an MC or room HostHostess

8 Radio spots should be exactly 30 seconds in length and may include a musical or sound effect introduction andor background but may not include a spoken introduction or ldquotagrdquo by anyone other than the contestant If music or a sound effect is used the contestant must provide and operate the sound-making device The contestant will provide a complete written script (including notations about musicsound effects) to the timekeeper to aid in timing accuracy Musicalsound effect introductions and endings are considered a part of the radio spot and must not cause the 30 second time limit to be exceeded The spot should relate to 4-H be original and be created by the contestant

9 Interpretations Interpretations are to be memorized oral interpretation or a selection of narrative in language of speakerrsquos choice Interpretations consist of three categories

Dramatic Interpretation

a Oral interpretation memorized by the speaker or a serious selection of narrative or dramatic literature Monologues are acceptable

b Mime ndash use your body to create an interpretation

c Poetry Interpretation ndash a memorized oral interpretation by the speaker

d Humorous Interpretation ndash a memorized oral interpretation of a humorous selection by the speaker Cuttings may be taken from published plays or prose

10 Judges may ask questions of contestants in the prepared extemporaneous and interpretations categories related to the topic Due to time constraints questioning should be limited to two or three minutes per speaker Questions will not be asked in the radio spot category

11 Clover Show and Tell participants are ages 5-7 and have the opportunity to share any special toy collectible or other favorite item with the audience Clovers will have 1-3 min to showcase their special item followed by a question answer period with the audience

12 CloverJunior Pledge Clovers ages 5-7 and Juniors ages 8-10 will recite the 4-H pledge to the audience

4 At the State Contest a contestant may only compete in one category If a contestant wins more than one category at the County Contest they must choose which category to compete in at the State Contest

Harford Hills Elementary School launched a new 4-H afterschool program for students from 2nd to 5th grades This club offers an opportunity for youth to engage in hands-on activities to build life skills in the areas of rockets robotics climate and agricultural science projects

The Baltimore County 4-H is proud to announce that James Thomas received the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Overall High Score 4-H Portfolio Scholarship

This Scholarship was established in 2015 the

College AGNR offering $1000 to each of the nine senior high overall individuals at the following annual 4-H competitions Livestock Judging Dairy Judging Horticulture Judging Poultry Judging Rabbit Judging Horse Judging Hippology Livestock Skillathon and Overall National

Leadership Trip Winner- High Point winner of the portfolio program which encompasses National 4-H Congress National 4-H Conference Camp Miniwanca West Virginia Older Members Camp and Virginia 4-H Congress

The recipient must apply as a bachelorrsquos degree-seeking student be accepted to the University of Maryland and enroll in the College of AGNR

Maryland 4-H Foundation offers a matching scholarship award to these students in the amount of $1000

James was selected to go to National 4-H Congress in 2015 He was the chair for the Maryland contingent This high honor was given to him for his excellent work on his senior portfolio his interview skills and his essay

This workshop is designed for adult 4-H volunteers and teens interested in mentoring younger 4-H members on how to program LEGO Mindstormreg robots and to introduce the 2016 LEGO 4-H Challenge The training will feature tracks for those that will be mentoring robotics activities and those that are working with teams on the 4-H LEGO Challenge

The 2016 4-H LEGO Challenge mat has been redesigned Registered teams this year will receive a new mat free of charge Any registered team that attends this training will also receive the LEGO mission pieces free as well Time will be allotted to construct the mission pieces and review the rules for this yearrsquos game Advanced programming training will be provided on topics such as line following We encourage each team to bring a laptop and a Mindstormreg robot that is ready to program

1 The contest consists of five categories

Clover Show and Tell and 4-H Pledge Prepared Speech Extemporaneous Radio Spot Interpretations

Speeches are given by individuals not teams

2 Each of the above categories includes four age groups

Clovers 5-7 Junior 8-10 Intermediate 11-13 Senior 14-18

Ages are as of January 1st of the current year

3 Time Limits

Clover Show and Tell 1-3 min and CloverJunior 4-H Pledge 1-2 mins

Prepared Juniors 3 to 5 minutes Intermediates and Seniors 4 to 6 minutes

Extemporaneous Juniors and Intermediates 2 to 3 minutes Seniors 3 to 5 minutes

Radio Spot 30 seconds for Juniors Intermediates and Seniors

Interpretations Juniors - 1 frac12 to 3 minutes Intermediates - 2 to 4 minutes Seniors - 3 to 5 minutes

Judges may deduct points for presentations not meeting or exceeding time limits

4 Visual aids including posters are not permitted Appropriate gestures are encouraged For Dramatic Interpretation contestant may opt to sit for presentation Podium use is optional

5 Prepared Speech contestants may speak on any topic It may be wise to discuss topics that could be considered controversial with your 4-H leader or educator before the contest The speech may be written for a specific audience such as a 4-H club PTA or a Rotary Club Note cards containing a key word outline are permitted Only juniors may use a complete script Memorization is not encouraged

6 Extemporaneous speakers will draw three topics and choose one topic to speak on Juniors and Intermediates may have up to 30 minutes and Seniors up to 15 minutes to prepare their talk Contestants may use one side of up to four or both sides of up to two 5 x 8 inch note cards to their key word outline Extemporaneous speakers will be shown color time cards at correctly timed intervals indicating ldquo30 SECONDSrdquo ldquo1 MINUTErdquo AND ldquoSTOPrdquo

7 Prepared Speech Extemporaneous Speech and Interpretations contestants should not introduce themselves as part of their presentation This will be done by an MC or room HostHostess

8 Radio spots should be exactly 30 seconds in length and may include a musical or sound effect introduction andor background but may not include a spoken introduction or ldquotagrdquo by anyone other than the contestant If music or a sound effect is used the contestant must provide and operate the sound-making device The contestant will provide a complete written script (including notations about musicsound effects) to the timekeeper to aid in timing accuracy Musicalsound effect introductions and endings are considered a part of the radio spot and must not cause the 30 second time limit to be exceeded The spot should relate to 4-H be original and be created by the contestant

9 Interpretations Interpretations are to be memorized oral interpretation or a selection of narrative in language of speakerrsquos choice Interpretations consist of three categories

Dramatic Interpretation

a Oral interpretation memorized by the speaker or a serious selection of narrative or dramatic literature Monologues are acceptable

b Mime ndash use your body to create an interpretation

c Poetry Interpretation ndash a memorized oral interpretation by the speaker

d Humorous Interpretation ndash a memorized oral interpretation of a humorous selection by the speaker Cuttings may be taken from published plays or prose

10 Judges may ask questions of contestants in the prepared extemporaneous and interpretations categories related to the topic Due to time constraints questioning should be limited to two or three minutes per speaker Questions will not be asked in the radio spot category

11 Clover Show and Tell participants are ages 5-7 and have the opportunity to share any special toy collectible or other favorite item with the audience Clovers will have 1-3 min to showcase their special item followed by a question answer period with the audience

12 CloverJunior Pledge Clovers ages 5-7 and Juniors ages 8-10 will recite the 4-H pledge to the audience

Other Rules

1 Contestants are to bring two (2) copies of the script including reference Language other than spoken English must be translated

2 Speaker can speak or interpret in language of their choice If using language other than spoken English participant must inform Extension Office before the event to ensure appropriate judges

3 The champions from the county contest will be sent to the State Contest that is held in April

4 At the State Contest a contestant may only compete in one category If a contestant wins more than one category at the County Contest they must choose which category to compete in at the State Contest

State Champions may not enter the same category and age group a second time

4-H GALA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Harford Hills Elementary School launched a new 4-H afterschool program for students from 2nd to 5th grades This club offers an opportunity for youth to engage in hands-on activities to build life skills in the areas of rockets robotics climate and agricultural science projects

The Baltimore County 4-H is proud to announce that James Thomas received the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Overall High Score 4-H Portfolio Scholarship

This Scholarship was established in 2015 the

College AGNR offering $1000 to each of the nine senior high overall individuals at the following annual 4-H competitions Livestock Judging Dairy Judging Horticulture Judging Poultry Judging Rabbit Judging Horse Judging Hippology Livestock Skillathon and Overall National

Leadership Trip Winner- High Point winner of the portfolio program which encompasses National 4-H Congress National 4-H Conference Camp Miniwanca West Virginia Older Members Camp and Virginia 4-H Congress

The recipient must apply as a bachelorrsquos degree-seeking student be accepted to the University of Maryland and enroll in the College of AGNR

Maryland 4-H Foundation offers a matching scholarship award to these students in the amount of $1000

James was selected to go to National 4-H Congress in 2015 He was the chair for the Maryland contingent This high honor was given to him for his excellent work on his senior portfolio his interview skills and his essay

This workshop is designed for adult 4-H volunteers and teens interested in mentoring younger 4-H members on how to program LEGO Mindstormreg robots and to introduce the 2016 LEGO 4-H Challenge The training will feature tracks for those that will be mentoring robotics activities and those that are working with teams on the 4-H LEGO Challenge

The 2016 4-H LEGO Challenge mat has been redesigned Registered teams this year will receive a new mat free of charge Any registered team that attends this training will also receive the LEGO mission pieces free as well Time will be allotted to construct the mission pieces and review the rules for this yearrsquos game Advanced programming training will be provided on topics such as line following We encourage each team to bring a laptop and a Mindstormreg robot that is ready to program

This program will be presented by the GEARS Robotics Team from Garrett County The host for the training is STEMaction at the USRA STEMaction Center in Columbia MD

Other Rules

1 Contestants are to bring two (2) copies of the script including reference Language other than spoken English must be translated

2 Speaker can speak or interpret in language of their choice If using language other than spoken English participant must inform Extension Office before the event to ensure appropriate judges

3 The champions from the county contest will be sent to the State Contest that is held in April

4 At the State Contest a contestant may only compete in one category If a contestant wins more than one category at the County Contest they must choose which category to compete in at the State Contest

State Champions may not enter the same category and age group a second time

4-H GALA SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED

Harford Hills Elementary School launched a new 4-H afterschool program for students from 2nd to 5th grades This club offers an opportunity for youth to engage in hands-on activities to build life skills in the areas of rockets robotics climate and agricultural science projects

The Baltimore County 4-H is proud to announce that James Thomas received the University of Maryland College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Overall High Score 4-H Portfolio Scholarship

This Scholarship was established in 2015 the

College AGNR offering $1000 to each of the nine senior high overall individuals at the following annual 4-H competitions Livestock Judging Dairy Judging Horticulture Judging Poultry Judging Rabbit Judging Horse Judging Hippology Livestock Skillathon and Overall National

Leadership Trip Winner- High Point winner of the portfolio program which encompasses National 4-H Congress National 4-H Conference Camp Miniwanca West Virginia Older Members Camp and Virginia 4-H Congress

The recipient must apply as a bachelorrsquos degree-seeking student be accepted to the University of Maryland and enroll in the College of AGNR

Maryland 4-H Foundation offers a matching scholarship award to these students in the amount of $1000

James was selected to go to National 4-H Congress in 2015 He was the chair for the Maryland contingent This high honor was given to him for his excellent work on his senior portfolio his interview skills and his essay

This workshop is designed for adult 4-H volunteers and teens interested in mentoring younger 4-H members on how to program LEGO Mindstormreg robots and to introduce the 2016 LEGO 4-H Challenge The training will feature tracks for those that will be mentoring robotics activities and those that are working with teams on the 4-H LEGO Challenge

The 2016 4-H LEGO Challenge mat has been redesigned Registered teams this year will receive a new mat free of charge Any registered team that attends this training will also receive the LEGO mission pieces free as well Time will be allotted to construct the mission pieces and review the rules for this yearrsquos game Advanced programming training will be provided on topics such as line following We encourage each team to bring a laptop and a Mindstormreg robot that is ready to program

This program will be presented by the GEARS Robotics Team from Garrett County The host for the training is STEMaction at the USRA STEMaction Center in Columbia MD

2 They may be given in two categories individual or team

3 The length should be

A Clover Division- not more than 5 minutes

B Junior Division- at least 5 minutes but not more than 10 minutes

C Intermediate and Senior Divisions at least 10 minutes but not more that 15 minutes

4 Visual Presentation (Illustrated Talk) is structured with an introduction body and summary Instead of showing how to do you explain how by the use of illustrations charts or posters You usually do this kind of talk in an area where you cannot actually show ldquohow to do somethingrdquo
