UCLA ATHLETICS’ OFFICIAL ONLINE AUCTION Emily Lerner Director of Communications and Donor Relations Hometown: East Rockaway, New York College: I went to three different colleges, but earned my BA in History from UCLA in 1980 Start Date with UCLA Athletics Development: October 5, 1987 Favorite UCLA Memory: Without a doubt, the 1995 UCLA Men’s Basketball NCAA Championship run. Although I wasn’t in Boise for the rout of Florida International or the famous “Tyus Edney 4.8 second play,” many of us working in the department then went to the Regionals in Oakland and to the finals at the Kingdome in Seattle. Everyone who was there remembers every minute of those trips and every detail of those games because it was easily one of the most fun, exciting times of our lives. Favorite Professional Sports Team: New York Mets. Or the Lakers from the 1980’s. Favorite John Wooden Quote: “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” Unique Fact About Yourself: Because I worked in Pauley Pavilion at the time, I got to see all of the bands that performed at the 1992 MTV Music Awards—all during their sound checks before the actual awards program—so I was one of the only people in the arena listening while Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Eric Clapton, Red Hot Chili Peppers and others performed their songs. It was like getting my own private concert. Message to Our Donors: I have gotten to know so many of our incredible donors over the years and wish I could thank each and every one of them personally, even though that would cause a logistical nightmare. But the best part for me has been the enjoyment and enrichment I have received from interviewing many of our donors for various articles. This has enabled me to get to know them much better and in a context that went beyond their donations to UCLA Athletics. It has made me realize that everyone has a story, and that there are so many great Bruins out there. CLICK HERE TO SEE OUR ENTIRE UCLA ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT STAFF
